Joining the Military [Open to any military guys]

Æthan was finally ready to venture out int he world, as he had saved up some money from his job as the botany manager at his store, and decided that he would simply take all of his courage, march to the military headquarters, and demand to join. Well, not really demand, but at least submit his information as an alchemist so that he might one day become a state alchemist. He wasn't sure where he was going to ask to be stationed, and hopefully the military was asking for more volunteers, so that he could have some people come in and tell him about the different military stations. He was thinking perhaps Briggs, even with the infamy surrounding it, would be a good choice considering it might be the best way to temper himself to the world. He hadn't seen very much violence in his life, considering his upbringing, and the only thing that was really bad in his life was being kicked out of his home at a young age. He got dressed, and even though he would be given a uniform, he wanted to how up in his own clothing.

As he made his way down the streets, towards the military headquarters, he began to pick up a bit of speed so that he was walking swiftly. He had his doubts about this, and he was simply going to do it, much like taking off a band aid when you were a kid, you had to do it fast before you chickened out. So, he reached the building, and walked in. The lady behind a counter asked if he had an appointment with anyone, and he shook his head. He simply said "I'd like to volunteer, I'm an alchemist" he said. He showed no emotion, why would he have to, he was simply stating something. Hopefully someone would come and help him decide on where he wanted to go, or maybe they would simply place him somewhere. He filled out the forms rather quickly, and then waited on a chair for someone to assist him.

Murazar was just sticking around central for a bit, typical of using government officials as information gatherers in his line of work. They didn't have anything specific that he was going after so he just passed it on to his subordinates back in briggs. Just as he was going to leave he caught the image of a young alchemist signing up. Poor guy was only a kid, younger than himself. He decided he might as well check on what was going on and see where he wanted to go.

Maybe he could influence him to go to briggs or wherever he wanted. His flight didn't leave until tonight anyway and it was only the afternoon. He walked over to the lady at the counter and after some talking managed to look over the paperwork he signed and the background checks they were running. So far nothing bad and all good. He made a request and got a key to a old room that was used for counseling work that they only closed up a week ago.

Might as well talk to the kid and see whats up with him while I got some free time. With key in hand and his normal white suit on he walked over to the kid and with his calm and expressionless face simply asked in the same kind of calm and controlled tone you would expect," Hello there, I'd like to talk to you before your paperwork is anywhere close to being done before they give you up to medical and such. If you dont mind i'd like to talk in that room over there." He pointed at a door just down the hallway past the reception desk. The only clear indicator he was anyone important was the symbol of head of intelligence and the Major General rank on his collars. As if they were simple add-ons.

His sword seemed to hang at his waistline, it didn't seem ceremonial at all in its sheath and seemed quite like an out of place object in the current time and age.

Æthan was a bit surprised that someone that was so high in the military suddenly started talking to him as if he was a first year recruiter. He asked him to step over into a room to go and check out some stuff before he was actually checked by the medical staff. Well, this was great, maybe if Æthan impressed this man, he could get a slightly accelerated boost into the military. So, it was a matter of simply going through the short interview with this man. "Yes sir." Æthan also saluted him the best he could although he wasn't sure the proper form, he simply emulated what he saw the other soldiers do when they started to speak to their superiors. As Æthan entered the room, he wasn't sure what to expect, nor if he should take a seat, or even if there were any seats.

Æthan wondered what the interview was going to be about, and it was probably simple questions about his past, most likely his alchemy skills or knowledge, but he wasn't sure about it.

Murazar nodded and walked to the office, after unlocking it and going over behind a desk he plopped right down in a chair and kicked his feet on the desk. He motioned for the kid to shut the door and take a seat. As that happened he spoke,"So why join the military? Any particular reason or reasons?" Might as well keep this somewhat on the line. Then guide it where he wished.

He already had the kids name and he didn't feel like introducing himself unless asked. For now if the kid showed up in briggs he'd shit a brick when he'd see mura. That was a expression well worth the secrecy. Plus he had a bag of excuses and didn't figure the kid would want this to be focused on him for any kind of exclusive nicey nice actions from a general.

Æthan followed the man into the room, where the man motioned for him to shut the door, so he quickly did, and then took a seat in a chair facing the desk. The man leisurely placed his feet on the desk in a relaxed position. He wasn't sure what to make of this, but he simply went for the explanation that this person had been in the military for a while, and didn't feel the edginess or nervousness that the new recruits did. Æthan quickly assessed this person as experienced, as he also picked up on the sword, and the apparent absence of a firearm. Willing to take on the majority of firearm users with nothing but a sword meant that this person was someone that would be able to teach Æthan how to be strong, even if it wasn't directly.

The question now was, 'why did Æthan want to join the military.' He had thought about this long and hard before he actually committed to it, and he already had the answers. A deep breath escaped his lips, as his elbows found the arms of the chair, his fingers interlaced, and covered his mouth slightly. "There are two reasons. The first, is that my father's dream was to become an alchemist that worked for the military, but he died before this happened. Secondly, the truth is that I am a weak person in general. I am looking to become stronger." Æthan didn't really like to talk even that much, but it was critical in his joining of the military, so he simply put up with it.

Murazar nodded in respect to the answer the kid gave him. He leaned forward and help his hands out to show the alchemical symbols. He spoke in answer calm as ever," Strength is power and power is perception of what power is. I hold power as the ability to end lives and destroy. My alchemy gives me the power to no longer rely on mundane firearms and such unless necessary. My sword and fist make it where if I cannot use alchemy I do not need to. My mind and skills hold as the most dangerous of all."

He pointed a finger at the kid," Power is only a means to an end. What would you use that power for?" People had goals, those who had no goals needed to have them. He himself had only recently gained a goal. He didn't want this boy to not have at least something to attain once he became powerful. Murazar leaned back in his chair relaxing as the souls screamed and gurthang laughed in his head. Power came at deep and horrifying prices sometimes. Murazar was still vetting this young man. He might make a good addition to briggs.

Æthan was a bit astounded at the knowledge of this person, as he never thought of the concept of power this way before. Power was perspective, and this was definitely so in his case. His alchemy allowed him to do wonderful, and terrible things, and he would need to guide himself. After thinking over what power meant, and by seeing the alchemy symbols on the man's hands, he couldn't help but open his hands and gaze upon his own circles. They weren't as complicated or detailed as this man's, but they still had great power within them. Æthan's energy research was still going strong, and manipulating the energy was also within his grasp.

Power is only a means to an ends, and this was true. Æthan had to truly think of what his end may be, and he wasn't quite sure. He had no one to protect, and he had to one to destroy. He was a sort of plain person that had a bad experience with his family, but he didn't hate them. He didn't love them either, and it was this indifference to the world that sort of scared him. He didn't really care about anyone or anything for the most part, and he even only made money from his job so he could eat. He then realized that he didn't really have a goal, other than to get stronger, and that was a bit feeble in and of itself.

"In all honesty, I want something or someone to care about. As of right now, your life and the life of a pencil are equal, and I know that isn't fair...

I want to feel.... anything."

and with that, Æthan sort of shocked himself, as his cool calm demeanor simply sat there, stagnating. He just compared an officer of the military to a pencil, and there was no hint of sarcasm in his voice. He didn't really take a good look on his life in a while, and he wondered just when he lost his ability to feel.

Murazar smiled just ever so slightly, poor kid had nothing to have the power for. This kid was going to be another Murazar one day, a terrible and mighty man with nothing to lose and never letting himself gain anything. Delusions, all of it. Maybe I can help guide him ever so slightly. I'm still in that pit, but ever since having my goal in mind. Maybe I can make things easier on myself as well as him. He nodded just once and replied after letting the words sink in.

"Well you might want to take some time while gaining that power and give yourself a reason to use it. Broad or specific. Protection or Death. Happiness or Hell. Take your pick and when you find something better, go with it. In the meantime, were you wanting to be assigned at any particular base?" Everyone always had a particular place, even if they didn't know themselves. He thought he would never leave Briggs. At least until he was no longer useful or a liability more than useful.

He pulled his feet off of the table and put his elbows on the table instead as he leaned in to the kid. This was an answer he was very interested in hearing. He could of course throw a recommendation out to anywhere, but if it was briggs. It was almost a surety then.

Æthan nodded as the man said that he should take some time first to figure out why he is gaining the power in the first place. Well, this was the first step towards that process, and it seemed that these two were both on the same wavelength in terms of everything. This person was definitely like Æthan himself, or rather Æthan was like him, as he was older than he was. Then, the person asked an all important question, asking where he wanted to be assigned. This was a question that Æthan was mulling over to himself all week, along with right when he was interviewed.

His mind was already set on where he wanted to go, and there was lots of snow there. He hoped that he would just be a regular grunt at first, so that he could work his way up and show his worth. "Hmm" escaped his lips as he put his hands back over his mouth, leaning on them and his elbows on the chair arms. He had made his decision, to make a great mark on his own history.

"...Briggs."

Murazar smiled lightly at the answer that was given to him. Briggs, eh? Of all the answers this was the most ironic one to chose from with honesty in hand. Murazar chuckled lightly and pull out a piece of paper among the small file he had on the kid that had so far been pulled up and wrote out a small few sentences with his signature, full name, rank and all that jazz for a recommendation for him to be sent to briggs as his first duty station.

Murazar looked at the kid dead in the eye and spoke softly, " Well then, I've written my recommendation out for you to go to briggs then. I'll see you there. Since you'll end up working around me I guess an introduction is in order." He paused for just a moment to let the introduction sink in." Major General Dauthi. I'm the Head of intelligence at Fort Briggs. More than likely you'll end up in briggs now with my recommendation. Regardless a few things to know about me, my eyes are made of automail, i'm a fire and soul stealing alchemist, I can kill without alchemy as easily as with it, i'm one of the currently oldest members in briggs other than one of the soldiers at the moment and lastly i'm a mercenary hired by General Tsukino herself and as such i'm not under as many rules as the actual amestrian military despite following most of them. In other words all my ranks and positions inside this military are honorary due to service and dedication to show appreciation for what i've done."

The mercenary tidbit was always the thing that made him the oddity, well other than being on of the top dogs in briggs and the whole soul thing. Which was making him insane and even he knew it. One of these days i'm gonna get rid of that damn crap and focus on something more humane. Or at least constructive. He was getting tired of walking around as death incarnate. One of the deaths incarnate anyway, there were a couple of them around. Might as well give them the title of man-slayers as a warning sign.

Æthan listened to the person, as he stated that he wrote a special recommendation for him to go to Brigg's. This was perfect, as he got exactly what he asked for immediately. He said that he would most likely get the position, this meant that there was a slim chance that he would get posted somewhere strange or somewhere that would be extremely boring. Hopefully that wouldn't be so with a recommendation from someone as prestigious as this man. He then stated that he was a mercenary and expressed a little bit of his alchemical talent, which was staggering to say the lest. He always thought that stealing souls from people using alchemy was bad for you, and was frowned upon by the government because you could make your own personal army if you could also make artificial humans, although he was pretty sure that was impossible at the moment.

Major General Dauthi also said that he was given the rank out of sheer appreciation for tasks that he had done in the past, which meant that he was a highly capable fighter, alchemist, and soldier. This was of course great, considering Æthan might be working under this man from this point on, and this meant that he could learn from one of the best and wisest of the men in Briggs. "Well then, it seems I am in capable hands. Thank you very much for the recommendation." Æthan was still not using emotions, because even though he had them, they were buried deep down somewhere he wasn't sure how to get to unless he knew the person he was speaking to for a long while. Hopefully he could find people he trusted enough to call his friends in Briggs, but it was still a gamble.

Murazar nodded and motioned to get the door as he stood up and twirled a key around on his left index finger with the paperwork in his right hand. As they stepped out and he locked the door behind him he handed the key and paperwork over to the kid and said simply,"Alright you should be set, just take the key and paperwork to that lady and you should be ready to go through the medical process and such. I'll see you around then."

After the he walked off through the door without a care in the world. He seemed very similar to the kind of man that you'd see come in every day into work depressed as hell because everyone he loved is dead and then one day. He comes into work happy and carefree because he finally decided to die and try to join them. He seemed very similar to that except he had made a decision. That decision was something so illegal and dangerous it might as well be suicide.

Æthan nodded as he stated all he would have to do is hand a key and some papers to the woman at the front desk, and he would be conditioned for his physical examination, as well as his other things. Well, this was very good, and he might even be in Briggs within the next few days if everything went smoothly. He didn't see a problem with the physical examination, considering that he kept himself in okay physical condition. He wasn't a fighter or anything yet, but he had quite a bit of stamina to himself when it came to things like physical labor or running. Plus, the initiation into the military would probably be enough for him to start working out on a regular basis.

Æthan then walked over to the woman, handed in all of the things that she required, and then went on to the physical examination. Hopefully it would be relatively smooth sailing from here.
