That which does not kill me, will make me stronger.

FULL NAME:
→ Shura Okiza (修羅・御気座)

AGE:
→ 24

SEX:
→ Male

BIRTH PLACE:
→ Wakayama, Aurego

RACE:
→ Auregese

SPECIES:
→ Wolf dog :: 50% Wolf, 50% Dog

DATE OF BIRTH:
→ July 19, 1986

...........................................................................

HEIGHT:
→ 155.7528 centimeters.

WEIGHT:
→ 66.22448602 kilograms.

PICTURE:
Spoiler:

DESCRIPTION:
→ Shura has shoulder length auburn hair that is always parted on the side. Half of his hair in the back is pulled up in a loop to flip over his head, flaring out. His eyes are a deep, piercing green color that is almost always shielded from his emotions. Because of his constant lack of blood, Shura is extremely pale with a thin frame. His muscles are extremely well-defined however and give him the appearance of strength regardless of how weak he is at the time.

He is almost always seen in a short, red kimono with an orange trim leading down and black on the tips of his sleeves. Shura never wears a hakama because he doesn’t like it getting in the way of his daily activities so instead, he wears baggy green pants that match his eyes. His obi is white just like the tie his uses to hold his hair up. He also always wears a metal plate on his forehead, tied around his head with a long, white sash. With every outfit regardless of what it is, he will wear wooden geta, or if he’s feeling lazy, regular sandals.

When he walks, he sees everything and remembers everything he sees, but despite that, he walks rather quickly as if he doesn’t want to be seen himself. When he is tired, he drags his feet to no end, complaining all the way. Shura has a very lazy walk despite how fast or slow he is going, but his eyes are always focused ahead on the horizon.

When Shura isn’t smiling, staring off into space, or on the rare occasion frowning, he is smirking in a very self-assured way. He has a very bright-sounding laugh that is heart-felt and clear like the ringing of a bell. His normal voice is usually light and murmured, but is also deep and kind. He also has an even lower voice that he uses when his murderous intent is most prevalent.

...........................................................................

PERSONALITY:
→ On the surface, Shura is an extremely aloof person who will threaten to kill the people he protects. He’s the type of person who laughs in the face of danger and enjoys every moment of it, knowing that he is accomplishing something. He is not quick to draw his sword, but he is quick to act on a situation and will blindly place himself in the cross fire, though, he would normally be the one to encourage it. He will enjoy being around certain people, but everyone else is a blur of indifference. He does in fact have a sense of justice, and the weak will draw his attention when they are in danger, but he feels nothing for them personally. Shura just enjoys solving the problem.

He has been through so much that his mind sometimes has trouble grasping reality and he loses track of himself. Shura is a very deep thinker; he could sit for hours thinking about one thing that bothers him. It usually takes a distraction to pull him away from these continuous thoughts. When someone first meets him, he is extremely polite and gracious, though he makes it a habit to always hold a dangerous air over them, threatening them to do something to piss him off.

Shura is a naturally kind guy who will always give someone the time of day to speak their mind. He will listen intently, but if he doesn’t like what they are saying, he will retort back and sometimes very cruelly. Shura does not stand for pathetic attempts at dialogue and will in every way denounce the failed speaker in all respects. Though he is extremely kind, he does so secretly, not wanting anyone to know that he has a soft side.

Shura is a very open person. He’ll do just about anything under the sun to make certain people he likes happy. His usually serious demeanor can easily change without a moment’s notice when he is embarrassed by someone close to him or something unexpected happens. He is also a very careful and calculated person, doing nothing at all without deep debate within the refuse of his mind. That is how he has survived up until now.

HISTORY:
→ The only sounds that could be heard were the jingles of rusted chains that bound them from the rest of the world. Held with their own thoughts, the reality around them was skewed beyond repair. They moved forward, dragging their feet onward despite the grim fate facing them. There was no end to it, and nothing to do but continue on. The path stretched before worn sandals, tormented with obstacles that felt impossible to overcome. Day after day, week after week, the world as they knew it dripped into a boiling pot of chaos in which they could only watch.

The sky above constantly seemed to be lined with a sheet of clouds, gray and tired like their bodies. It always felt like it was about to rain as it did every moment in their hearts. They could do nothing but lower themselves into a cage of fear and cover themselves with a deluge of invisible tears. The wind thrashed about the dead summer grass, ushering the slaves along on a path they did not choose to ensue. A scrawny boy with disheveled, auburn hair followed an endless line of mere shadows of people. There was no end to the torture that was seen reflected in the innocence of his green eyes. The people had no hope for the life they were living anymore, many dropped to the earth in exhaustion, but many let themselves fall so they could die and end their suffering. The slave traders who stalked the sides of the line killed anyone who showed the slightest sign of losing themselves; they didn’t have time to deal with weakness.

The slave traders sold humans for money, but in the meantime treated them like dogs. They forced the slaves to cook for them, to fend for themselves, and to kill each other. There was so much death—so much killing that it felt at times as if they were fighting their own war. The small boy’s very own parents had betrayed him to this, sacrificing him so they may have a few yen to live on. He was now a slave—something not human, unable to feel…unable to think. But he thought, he saw, he felt… Everything was soaked with pain—the humans surrounding him, empty drones. It was that sweltering summer day that he promised himself that he would be strong for all of them.

One of the many days that past, a select few were lead into a tavern to work for a couple weeks. It was longer than their usual work, but everyone seemed pleased that they didn’t have to travel for a while. The boy minded however, but only because he enjoyed being outside. There, he felt less trapped, and could watch as the sunflowers swayed in tune with the wind. The boy remained silent and said nothing, obeying every command like a trained animal. The tavern was located on a busy street in Asakusa, Edo. Its golden lights lit the streets at night, and a moment didn’t pass when a shamisen wasn’t heard. Expensive kimonos were seen around every corner, decorative ornaments adorning the hair of every passing female. The boy went about his duties, trying not to see the luxuries of freedom so he wouldn’t yearn for it; it was that yearning that cost so many lives.

A young girl about the same age as the boy met his steady eyes. She wasn’t wearing anything elaborate, and her hair was down in disarray. Quickly, she ran away, leaving the boy to wonder if she was one of them. Her movements, the few words she had spoken to one of the geisha seemed to engrave themselves into the boy’s memory. It was only later that he found out she was not a slave like the rest of them, but free. He longed to speak with her, to ask her what life was really like without lowering his eyes in shame. Still, he said nothing.

Stars broke out to a clear night sky filled with a sea of endless black. The boy stopped his work to momentarily gaze out the window of the top floor. There was a world out there that he could never reach… It was one of the first times he could see the sky so clearly. He pried his eyes from the window to turn in the direction of light footsteps. His hands slipped from the broom he held and it clattered to the ground where he stared at it with dull green eyes until he summoned enough courage to warily raise them. There, the girl stood before him, watching his every move, a strange expression on her face. She bent to retrieve the broom with so much grace that the boy’s mouth fell open slightly.

“Here you are,” She said calmly, her voice flowing over him like silk.
“Thank you…” He murmured in a daze, taking the broom from her soft hands.
“There is no need for your thanks, Shura…”

Blood—it lined the tatami in splatters, the railings splintered with cuts made by swords. Bodies lay atop the shoji screens, faint cries of pain breaking free from the silence of a massacre. Flickering sage eyes peered about the chaos from inside a crushed closet. Everyone was dead. He gripped his leaking side as a pool of red gathered at his feet. He stepped out from the sliding doors and tripped over a cold body. It was the girl. His face met the wooden floor and he stumbled to his feet in fear, wandering aimlessly through death. Everyone was dead…already skeletons

…………………………………………………………………………………

Shura jolted awake from where he lay on the sunny veranda, his eyes snapping open through sweaty, auburn bangs. He panted, trying to remind himself that it was just a dream—just a nightmare from the past. Just that same dream again… He sat up, his attention drawing to the old man who appeared to have stopped in the middle of reading a book. “That was ten years ago, Shura, you would think it would stop haunting you by now.”

It was true, Shura’s subconscious couldn’t let go of his childhood. It seemed that the memories would always haunt him… He had spent the last ten years of his life practicing the legendary Tennen Rishin Ryu swords style under a renowned sensei by the name of Kondou Okiza. The old man had found the boy collapsed atop a bridge outside the city in the clutches of death. He then took him in as his own, adopting him into the Okiza family permanently. Ten years went by so fast…

It was autumn of that same year that Kondou passed away from pneumonia. He was buried in an ancestral graveyard down the road at the local shrine. Shura visited it every day until the time came when he had to take over Kondou’s dojo. A few months dragged by and winter fell in heavy snowflakes over the frozen ground of Aurego. Shura moved through life quickly, paying mind to nothing but his nagging students. None of them were able to understand the true concept of bushidou and soon dropped out. In this time and age, few people could grasp such heavy meaning, and thus weren’t worthy of holding a real sword.

Sometime later, in the dead of winter, a strong wind blew in, carrying a boy only a year younger than Shura himself. He stepped up the hill and through the wooden gate without falter. Face to face they met: red eyes and green, though opposite seemed to blend together with the white falling down around them. Shura stepped aside and the boy known as Makuro Tsukino stepped inside. That begun their long and unending relationship. Shura began teaching Maku the way of the sword, refining the technique he already knew, and developing it into his own personal style. Shura, on the other hand, would carry the Tennen Rishin Ryu with him until he died. The two of them became fast friends, the first in which Shura had ever known. Soon, they weren’t teacher and student, but a couple of kids trying to find their way through the economic crisis. Food was scarce and money only growing slimmer. Aurego’s economy had been at a downward spiral over the past ten years and now finally reached its lowest point.

War broke out, dividing the country in two. It seemed the emperor, Matsudaya Tsukino and his wife had died in a car accident, leaving the throne unoccupied. His two brothers did not come to a consensus. One supported the ideals of slavery, and the other opposed them. The shock that slavery may still exist sent Shura to his feet. Ignoring Maku’s warnings, the modern day samurai left Kondou’s dojo and joined the ranks of the military. It was a crisp autumn day. “I rather fight for what I believe in using what I’ve been taught than watch as it gathers cobwebs.”

But a samurai on a current battle field regardless of how strong cannot face rapid gun fire and survive. Shura was shot in five places before he collapsed from exhaustion. He had killed countless men, his sword, the kikuichimonji, was drenched with blood, but unscathed. The dead, blank eyes of the fallen, stared at him through his closed eyelids as he was carried off writhing in pain. When he awoke, he coughed blood for the first time. He was then taken to a medical center in Osaka far from Kondou’s dojo in Kyoto. Even weeks later, he still couldn’t catch his breath; it was as if he were under water, trying to breach the surface that only pushed him under further. His breathing was raspy, his coughing becoming more and more frequent. On October 13, Shura Okiza was diagnosed with tuberculosis. Even after surviving the war, he was still going to die…

At the time, there was no cure, and his fate was handed to him by the cold hands of death himself. The doctor recommended he go to a special hospital to be treated, and Shura signed over his life without thought. He lost contact with Maku then and faced the autumn leaves fluttering down from the barren branches. So life was over…that easily? He reached the large building a few days later, and was escorted to an elevator that brought him down into the lower reaches of the earth. Shura wondered how not having fresh air helped anyone… and that was when he lost consciousness.

It was only later that Shura learned he was in a science branch in the military that was studying how to create chimeras successfully. This only reached his starving ears after he had been locked in a cage like an animal for a week. The chains had sliced into his wrists from trying to break free, but he had at least avoided the radar. After having seen many others like himself taken away from their own cells, he began to realize that they never returned. Shura was content with staying in this cage if he didn’t have to be dragged away again. A small part of him then began to wish that he had just died a warrior’s death on the battlefield…it would be better to have died than to live with boredom and anticipation eating away at his mind. It began to drive him insane, but he clung to the strings of sanity that ushered him toward freedom. If only someone had heard him screaming… Not again!

A month or so after that first week, Shura became a hardened shell of his true self. His cage had become his shelter and the grubby hands that handed him food were the enemy. The dark, florescent lights above started to have the intensity of sunlight pouring down all twenty-four hours. Night became day, day became night and time dragged on unrecorded. Eventually Shura’s time came, when most of the test subjects were already gone. He didn’t want to know what had happened to them, but now that he was being dragged down the hall like they once were, he very much wanted to know what had become of them. Fear struck him and his head was reeling with the icy touch of the darkness he was marching into.

The rest of his existence in the laboratory was spent in between consciousness, straddling pain and the prospect of never waking up again. He didn’t bother clutching to life and, instead when he could speak, demanded his demise. Through the various experiments and agonizing pain, came a moment of clarity. Shura awoke to see a creature staring him in the face. Beady black eyes delved into his own green voids and he became entranced with it. It had so much fur and an unfathomably long tail. The animal’s snout and basic body shape resembled that of a dog, but it was just too large. He couldn’t exactly grasp what it was until he heard a voice whisper in his ear with a tickle of hot breath. “It’s a wolf dog and it’s about to become a part of you.” Creepy. Shura would have shivered except he realized with a shock that he couldn’t feel his body at all. Glancing down at himself, an unexplainable horror faced him. His entire body, head to foot, was stuck entirely with needles that were injecting something into him. He felt it now, the cool stream of liquid passing through his veins. His breathing seemed to catch suddenly as if not enough air could pass into his lungs. A glowing circle surrounded him. Alchemy—human alchemy. They were trying to make this unethical creature become a part of him… He felt his consciousness fade once more into the darkness he didn’t welcome this time.

The first thing that happened when he opened his eyes was a long coughing fit. All he could taste was the blood from it. Spitting out a mouthful, Shura realized with horror that he was no longer human. Blinking back the shivers running up and down his spine, he reached a needled hand to his mouth and they came back bloodied. After thoroughly inspecting himself, he found nothing about his physical appearance had changed. He forced his weakened body to sit up. Ugh. Looking around, he noted the fact that he was alone, and began pulling out the needles and wires that covered his entire body one by one. Stumbling to shaking legs, he felt like he was on drugs as he walked in a rounded zig-zag to the only door, peering through the small window before opening it. That was when a loud ear-piercing ringing sound penetrated his head. Clutching his ears, Shura listened to his instincts, which seemed mildly stronger now and much more demanding. He then raced down the hall and through a cloud of smoke. It seemed an experiment had gone wrong and a chimera…like himself now…had gone on a rampage killing everyone. Come to think of it, it wasn’t a bad idea.

Shura was able to escape once he reached the upper levels of the building. There, he found his sword in one of the supply rooms and stole it back. He emerged through a doorway in the middle of Osaka, squinting through the piercing sunlight of spring. He dragged himself to the trunk of a cherry blossom tree and collapsed beneath it, coughing until he could breathe no more…

Soft pink petals fell lightly atop his auburn hair, piling over his body like a blanket of snow. Green eyes creaked open to a world filled with light and a man was bent over him, shaking him back to the land of the living. It was Maku, but he was older now and he was wearing clothes of the royal Aurego family. How had he found him? Shura let himself be lifted and taken to a car where he drifted in and out of consciousness. Later, he found himself in the Auregese palace in Edo, waited on by an accumulation of doctors who continuously stabbed him with needles until the pain went away. When Shura stopped coughing, Maku visited him and asked him to live, if only to serve him—that he needed him…needed. Shura felt himself nodding. Dying now would be dishonorable to Kondou’s will, and to Maku, the new prince of Aurego.
