      DESCRIPTION:
        → Tall, elegant, with lovely long legs... That is how most would describe Karen when they first see her. Oh, and we can't forget the shapely figure. She has always captured the looks of men, and some women as well should they swing that way. Why wouldn't they love her? Sure she's taller than your average Xingese woman, but it allows for the elegant lines of her form. In reality, her entire body proportions are abnormal from your average Xingese woman. She's 5'6", she actually has junk in the trunk, and a decently sized rack. But as for the rest of her? It matches up just like it should.

Her hair is black and flows in extremely long tresses down her back all the way to the back of her thighs practically. One the right side of her head, she keeps long bangs that normally hide most of her right eye from view though she can still peek between the strands with little to no issues. Just like her hair, her eyes are black and sleek. They can be as cold as the steel of her knives, sly as a fox with a knowing smirk on her lips, or hard and unforgiving as the soldier that she is. It doesn't matter that she'll fix her lipstick after a fight, her pretty face hides the thorns that lie beneath the surface.

Her style of dress can range from a more traditional chong-song with a long-sleeved, mid-torso length white coat to a suit and tie. We also can't forget any tactical gear that she might wear should the need arise. But normally? You can find her in her chong-song get up while she's Leon's assistant. Aside from the red flower patterned dress and white coat with thin gold borders, she also wears thin gold bracelets on her wrists. Her nails are painted to match the red of her dress and are never marred if she can help it. On her ears, you can usually find long earrings that begin with a little gold ball and extend into red tassels that hang down to her shoulder. Her shoes match her dress and allow for her toes to peek out, the heels very close to the ground. Oh yes, we cannot forget the holsters for her small thin kunai that she will throw at enemies. Those she'll normally only wear if she knows they will be dealing with dangerous folk since her knives are normally enough, but it depends on the situation that she and her employer find themselves in.

        PERSONALITY:
        → Karen is..... a rather complex character. She is an independent woman whom is very driven, but she can be as delicate as a flower at other times. She is slow to trust people, slow to believe that they will actually remain in her life. Too many times has she been left behind, sent away, and said good-bye's. She's said them as a child, as a young woman, as a soldier, and as a worker in the private sector. Too many good-byes. She's sick of them. She longs for some consistency in her life, for someone to just... stay. To not have to fear that the next morning she'll wake up to find a note, or hear something on the news, or be told to stay put, they'll be right back. It forced her to live independently of others, to be strong and the woman she is now. She does care about people, its just.... difficult to really form lasting connections is all.

Now that paints a rather serious picture of her, and she isn't always that serious. She knows how to have some fun. Though... it's probably not all that helpful that a portion of her fun comes from manipulating men. Thanks to events of her life (we'll get into that later), she knows how to charm someone to the fullest in order to either get what she wants. It doesn't mean she likes it, but she knows how to do it. Feminine wiles can be your best friend in a situation. Especially given her line of work, being an excellent actress and observer is really quite helpful. Few normally know of what lies beneath the surface.

She was raised for espionage, for the battlefield, for the darkness that lies beneath the surface of any human being or society. She is an operative, a tool for her government. She does, and does not feel any resentment towards her lot in life for she has received fulfillment from the duties that she performs. She loves her country and would die to protect it. She enjoys her books, playing the shamisen, her job... She is reserved and quiet, but she has fun manipulating men at times and participating in some upper class parties. In the end though, she doesn't really know what she wants.

Then there is Leon. Once she met Leon, things seemed to change in her life. She found that he was someone she could allow herself to depend on while it was her duty to watch his back. She could ease more into a "normal" sort of life. He actually.... stayed. She wants to help him with every fiber of her being. Now she wonders where she'll go from here with him.

        HISTORY:
        → Karen never really knew her parents. She was too young to remember them when they sold her off to some program when she was five in order to be able to buy rice. Yes, some people still do that to this very day. What she does remember is their faces as the cart took her away to the capital of their country, Xi'an. She never saw them again after that. It wasn't until she was older that she was told why she was where she was, and why she didn't know any other life. It was.... sobering for a twelve year old to learn that. But we are getting ahead of ourselves.

The place she was sold to was this new school for girls that would teach them the poise and grace worthy of an empress. What kind of parent (no matter the living situation) wouldn't want that for their child? In reality, however, that was far from all it was. Besides learning to essentially be what the Aerugese called a 'geisha,' it was a school to train young women to become operatives of the government. They would learn to be spies. Many came to that place in the same manner she had and so they began to form a bond of fellowship with each other.

The school wasn't that terrible in all actuality. They received an excellent education in all major subjects and more, including psychology, anatomy, and a heavy focus on linguistics. They wanted their girls to be able to go anywhere and everywhere should they need to. They learned to dance, play instruments, to fight in various styles, how to wield a weapon of their choice, how to blend into crowds, how to act.... The whole nine yards. What she steadily began to realize, what they all began to realize as they grew into young adults was that they were being made into the perfect little weapons.

During what would have been their high school years, they encouraged the girls to try jobs out in the real world, see how they functioned and whatnot. It wasn't like they weren't allowed to leave the school grounds, they were permitted to wander the city on weekends, but this was different. They had to be able to adapt to whatever situation they were in. Karen ended up becoming a model, and that was where she got her first taste of the aristocracy. Her studies didn't suffer for all the new work she got, and this was how she began to brush elbows with the elites. Her teachers were quite pleased with her initiative. All good things come to an end, however, and so she was placed on a hiatus with possibilities of return to the runway. Thankfully she wasn't one of the most popular models so no one would make as big a fuss over her departure.

As each of them turned seventeen, they were admitted into the military, one by one sent off on operations that functioned as tests of their abilities. Some girls tried to flee at this point, to get away from the path that had been set before them. Karen? She liked this life. This life gave her purpose, gave her a way to serve her country in a fashion that allowed her some freedoms. When it came time for her job, she passed with flying colors. She was one of five girls who became a favorite of the brass.

But then they were all cast astray from each other. Some girls never came back, most she never heard from again in her new position. So she had to start over again, form new connections. Now that she was in the military, she was taught new things, the sort of things that a soldier would need to know. Respectfully, she asked if she could choose what sorts of things. This was when she was introduced into alkahestry. The brass did question her motives given her upbringing, but she explained quite simply that they would need more people who were knowledgeable in ways of healing their soldiers on the battlefield, or even being able to know their way about the human body as well as an alkahestrist does. They could not deny her logic, and they also realized that she could use this knowledge to damage their enemies as well. For a country that values peace, whose king dislikes conflict, certain factions within Xing want to be sure they have some line of defense.

So it was for three years. She studied more, performed jobs, trained.... But that was when she received a rather unusual assignment. People came, and left, and she surfed on the rivers of life. She was to guard and be assistant to a special Cretan man by the name of Leopold 'Leon' Ricard Scott Arthur Eames IV. Or Leon. This was rather strange, but she accepted the job. When they first met, she hadn't been sure what to expect at all. She hadn't expected him to be in a wheel chair, nor be the owner of a prominent company. That was eight years ago, and now she believes it to be the best decision of her life.
