DESCRIPTION:
→ Warrior is an accurate way to describe Skylar. Every muscle in Skylar's body is toned, lithe, and powerful. He is not deceptively fast or strong, he looks just how physically impressive as he is. Practicality is the number one concern for Sky, he keeps his dirty blonde hair cut short and out of the way and normally dresses in military fatigues. Another good descriptive term for the soldier is intense. His grayish blue eyes seem to be in a perpetual glare and his other facial features are sharp and angular, all the more to give him a fearsome stare. Beyond just being an intensely featured individual he also has a long facial scar caused by shrapnel, this only one of the many scars that he has from that same explosion. Sky holds himself with the relaxed yet trained posture of a veteran soldier. His back is almost always straight but he keeps his legs and arms loose and comfortable, often with his hands tucked into his belt.

PERSONALITY:
→ The training and discipline of the military is an ever-present theme in nearly every aspect of Skylar's personality. His tone of voice and vocabulary tends to shift drastically from person to person, usually dependent on their rank. Discipline has become a reflex for this man. Every action he takes and each decision that he makes is carefully weighed before he makes his move. However, this same discipline also makes him a very decisive person indeed. Each choice that Sky makes is final in his mind and he carries it out without hesitation or regret. It's for this reason that he has made such an effective soldier. Every coin has two sides though. Due to Sky's institutionalization he is almost unable to disobey orders issued by his superiors. This has caused some serious mental issues with the veteran. Skylar is often plagued by nightmares and flashbacks to the numerous conflicts he's seen.

Skylar has a serious tendency to heavily self medicate, favoring hard alcohols and other depressants. These addictions have caused him monetary issues as well. Thus, Skylar has an intense dislike of the subject of money and especially debt. That being said though he is a loyal and honest man to all those who he counts as friends and comrades. Skylar will never sell out his comrades nor will he betray any oaths or bonds he shares with his "brothers in arms". Having been constantly surrounded by the military his entire life has given him an odd perception of civilians. He sees every civy as either a person to be protected or as collateral damage. This has made it difficult for him to cultivate relationships outside of the military. the civilians he meets often find him overbearing or disconnected from them. then again, this can give him an edge when dealing with those unaffiliated with a militant organization. He can act with a great deal more objectivity.

Yet another interesting side effect of being institutionalized by the armed forces is that Skylar is highly competitive. Nearly every aspect of his life he views as a competition. This can lead to highly impressive feat on his part or the uncalled for badgering of another based on their poor performance (rooted mostly in his want to see other improve). The good news is that Sky understands that loss is a part of life and rarely beats himself up over losing. Loss gives us a chance to learn after all.

→ Skylar wants to get out of the military because of the numerous non-combatants that are killed by them (him). However, he feels as though he would be a useless citizen because he lacks any skills aside from the ability to kill people. This fear of being useless keeps him in service.

HISTORY:
→ Being a military brat was just part of the Greden family line. For nearly twenty generations the family had at the very least two men enlisted in the service. The family had motto, "Once you're old enough to defend your country you had better be ready to answer the call." This motto fueled each new generation to surpass the previous and be the best soldier they could be. This was not lost on Skylar and his three brothers.

Hours of Skylar's childhood was spent with a plastic gun in his hand running dodging and shooting his brothers and their friends. Skylar also had the misfortune of being the youngest of all his brothers, thustly, all of his arguments against the rules were shot down, literally. This did not hamper the young boy though. He quickly made it a point to write out all of the rules for the game they were about to play and makes sure that no one broke or bent them. This gained Sky the title of "referee" for nearly all of his childhood. His brothers could always count on their young brother to make a fair call or to keep things in order.

Being in a military family isn't all just pretending to kill your brothers and learning discipline early on. it was a life of moving around the country and never really making too many friends in school. Skylar went to fourteen different school during his grammar school career alone. This gave him somewhat of a disconnection to other kids his age, especially since he spent most of his time around soldiers living in the barracks and his older brothers.

Like most military children Skylar grew up fast and hard. Soon enough he found himself being in a position to really consider his family's motto. All three of his older brothers were already in the service and it seemed like all of Skylar's family and friends were calling him in the same direction. in the end he joined up and began his life as a cog in the gears of war. as quickly as you could say "PRIVATE!" Skylar had found his nitch. Among the new trainees and drill sergeants Sky found a purpose. His purpose was to protect his comrades and all of those who could not defend themselves. Not only did he fit into this world like he was born there (which he basically was) he found his specialty with a surprising ease. Sky had grown up locked in fistfights and brawls with his brothers and friends alike. All that play seemed to make him well suited for Close Quarters Combat, or CQC.

After a few months of training and one hell of a send off Pvt. Greden was ready to push himself into the war effort just like his brothers had. Nearly just as Pvt. Greden was approved for active duty an internal struggle between an anti-military leftist Esparian sympathizers resulted in numerous firefights around Amestra during which one Lt. Greden was mortally wounded and died only a week later from his wounds. The tragedy struck the Greden family, however, this did not stop or eve slow down the remaining brothers. They turned whatever anger and sadness they had over their brother's death into a rage against the enemies of Amestris. The small leftist group didn't last long against the might of the Amestrian military and within a short time was reduced to ashes. Within two years Skylar was the only one of his brothers not to be on the KIA list for Central Command. In such a short time Skylar became alone again. Only this time he had to replace his blood brothers with his brothers in battle.

Eight more years passed in the haze of battle and leave. Sky distinguished himself as a highly effective CQC operator after numerous raids and assaults on buildings and other small compounds. Bringing down terrorist and dug in enemies quickly became Skylar's bread and butter. He would charge in with shotgun, SMG, and fist and walk out of the smoke and gunfire alive every time. At first it was a way to keep him sane. Quickly however it became what his main stressor was. More than a few times he had acted over zealously or been jumpy and shot a non-combatant or even killed a true innocent. These setbacks not only slowed his rank progression but also began to eat at his mind. So far he has managed to suppress any serious problems with alcohol and reminding himself that they are in a better place now.

Now Skylar sits in Northern Command waiting for his next assignment. His drinking shows no sign of slowing and he shows no sign of giving a damn about it. As long as he has a mission and a group of comrades he will go on fighting. He doesn't have permission to die just yet.

- Heads up, RIOTE wasn't around for as long as eight years, and their more prominent attacks took place in a span of a year or two. But of course, Amestris had plenty of other wars with other nations and it isn't implausible they had insurgent attacks within their own borders, so you're not that way off. Rewrite your history to suit that with the information at mind and you're golden.
