DEscriptION:
→ Riffel has long light blue hair that comes down to about his waist. He never ties his hair or braids it, but lets it down to show off it's sleek and thin nature.

His eyes are milky white due to being born with blindness. He rarely ever has them open and keeps his eyes shut to avoid attention to his disability. When he does open them, a silvery white mist can be seen clouding his eyes. However, Riffel can still 'see.' By using a clicking sound that his tongue produces, he can hear the sound as it bounces off objects. With this information, he can form mental images according to how long it takes for the sound waves to hit something. His ability is very similar to a dolphin's sonar. Riffel's eyes are still limited to seeing outlines of shapes only one click at time. He also can't make out color or very fine details. If he clicked his tongue at a book he would only see the outline and not the words.

Riffel has a pretty average body for his size. He is very well-toned and in shape, but no one would be able to tell until Riffel takes off his shirt or flexes his muscles, which he does from time to time to admire himself. His natural skin color is a light tan but because Riffel loves to be outdoors, he almost always has dark skin. He usually doesn't care about his skin color because he can't see it anyway. The only way he can know this is until someone points out his tan lines to him. In these cases, he'll immediately try to correct it (mostly by taking off his shirt).

He usually wears a large pair of headphones decorated with a glowing pink stripe around the ears. Even when they're not playing any music, Riffel will insist on wearing them. Riffel usually adorns a white or black beater and will on occasion wear it with a dark brown leather jacket if he's cold. He loves wearing jeans only because they’re comfortable and likes to switch between tight and baggy jeans depending on his mood and the weather. Riffel has a bright red puffy jacket that he hates and will only wear once a year because of a promise he made to Flux when she gave it to him as a present. Riffel always has a pair of sunglasses on to hide his blind eyes. He rarely takes them off because he not only has incredibly noticeable tan lines around his eyes, but feels he'll receive a lot of unwanted attention.

Riffel walks very confidently despite his blindness almost to the point where it becomes painful to look at him. When he’s especially happy, he'll have a sort of bounce in his step, which combined with his confident stride, makes it look rather funny to watch. When Riffel speaks, it has a very soothing sound that relaxes the person he talks to and makes it easier for him to persuade them to do things for him. This trait makes it easy for Riffel to smooth talk people...especially women.

PERSONALITY:
→ Riffel's personality is very ignorant and he will often have his headphones on to block out the rest of the world so he doesn't have to deal with people and their sympathies. He despises when people find out that he's blind and especially when they try to help him. If someone does try to help him, he will immediately shut them out by turning up his music and walking away. Oftentimes, Riffel will find himself lost in his music and thoughts for hours on end.

Despite being ignorant, Riffel is very outgoing and loves to talk to others unless they try to baby him. He loves to show off, and when he is with a group of people, he will almost always be flirting with the girls or trying to act cool to get people to notice him. Even though he can't see the girls he's talking to very well, he feels the more dates he can get with different girls, the more people he will impress. Riffel feels that if more people see how well he is doing despite being blind, they will be less compelled to offer him help.

Riffel is almost always open to new ideas and experiences no matter how silly or strange they are. He feels that he missed out on so much in life since he was always being sheltered by his parents. He will try almost anything as long as he feels it won't change how his face/body look in a negative way. He is very narcissistic and feels that he gets more ladies by his specific good looks.

Riffel loves to dance to his music when no one else is near him. He taught himself how to dance in order to keep himself entertained while listening to his favorite music. However, he feels his dancing may look awkward since there is no way he can see it himself. He will also randomly start singing songs that he is listening to when he feels like it because he loves to hear his voice, which can actually sing quite well.

HISTORY:
→ From the day he was born, Riffel has been cursed with blindness. His mother, Taresa, gave birth to him at the age of 30 after many repeated failures and misconceptions. As only child and a miracle despite his blindness, his parents--Taresa and Runga--were overjoyed when he was brought into the world. But upon finding out that Riffel was blind, both his parents immediately decided that he would need to be protected and cared for at all times. Runga, age 37, was also relieved to see that Taresa had given him a child, but worried that because of Riffel’s disability, he would be much harder to support. So he takes up a second job as a miner despite already being a competent glass blower.

As he grew up, his parents sheltered Riffel and tried to keep him as close to his home as possible, fearing that he would hurt himself if left alone. Riffel who had no idea what the outside world was like, fell in love with the attention given to him by both his parents and remained ignorant to the world outside Yous Well. Although from time to time, Riffel would fall into an extremely depressed state, wishing he could be able to see and experience the world as a normal child could. His parents, who had no way of relating to their son's disability, could do little to help him or even understand him. Since Riffel's parents didn't understand what he was going through, he started to feel the harsh bitterness of being alone. When he did talk to his parents about how it felt to be blind and alone, they became upset and worried that he would act rashly, so they sheltered him even more.

As years passed, his father decided that it would be a good idea to teach Riffel the fine art of glass blowing. He figured that even though his son was blind, he could still easily learn the craft. His wife, immediately rejected the idea, arguing that it would be too 'dangerous' for Riffel to handle. His father, Runga, who noticed Riffel's growing depression, continued with his plan to teach Riffel despite her arguments. He then asks his son if he would enjoy it. Riffel immediately becomes intrigued by the idea and both father and son convince Taresa to let Riffel learn glass blowing.

Two years went by and Riffel has become fourteen. He had become almost as good at glass blowing as his father. He had begun to pick up the ways to make beautiful objects despite his inability to see. Riffel is always praised for his work by almost everyone except for his father. Noting that his father hasn't approved of his skill at glass blowing, Riffel decides to create a glass piece all by himself without his father's help. His plan to do this though, backfires when he trips over a misplaced wire in the workshop. Runga, who returns from a drink at the local bar, finds to his horror his son trapped under the equipment. He immediately helps free his son. But Runga, furious with his son's rash actions, hits Riffel across the face for the first time. Feeling stunned and frightened of his father, Riffel takes off, running away while hitting trees and tripping over rocks.

When he came back to his senses, Riffle found himself in a large, abandoned place where his voice echos all around him whenever he speaks. Riffel realizes that he had to be in an abandoned mining cave. Feeling more alone than ever, he begins to cry and speak to himself in order to achieve some form of comfort. It is in this cave that Riffel becomes intrigued with all the sounds amplified around him. He discovers he can hear when a sound bounces back to his ears after he makes it. Some time was spent experimenting with this concept, but he eventually returned home and was smothered once again by his encroaching parents.

After that discovery though, Riffel continued to explore caves during the night. At first, it was hard for Riffel since he couldn't find his way to the cave that he had originally been in. So he followed his father in order to find the mines that he works in. He never told his parents this secret because he fear that they would worry he was doing something reckless. After following his father so many times to the cave, he finally memorized the way to and back from it, allowing him to sneak out and continue his studies of sound in the night.

After three years of discreet studying, Riffel completed a way to “see” using sound by clicking his tongue and hearing the very faint echo of it bouncing off an object. Filled with elation, he went to his parents with his achievement and showed them this ability. To his disappointment, his parents were skeptical and refused to believe him; they decided that no matter what his skill would only cause trouble and pain.

Riffel, filled with confusion, turned his back on them and ran away from his home for good...without looking back. He wandered around trying to beg for food from strangers and struggled to find shelter wherever he could. After a year of begging, he met an old woman, Flux, who had mistaken him for her missing grandson.

She took him in and Riffel later finds out that she used to be a very respected and well-known alchemist when she had been younger. Flux introduces him to music and teaches him how wonderful of an experience it can be. She teaches him that the world holds many mysteries and wonders, and in order to learn new things, you have to be open to new experiences. Riffel becomes very interested in alchemy and Flux decides to teach him everything she knows about it.

Two more years pass and Flux has passed away. Left alone once more, Riffel begins testing a new theory he has on the influences of sound on alchemy. However, his experiment goes awry and he ends up destroying the land around him. When he goes to inspect the damage that was done, he finds a man trapped underneath a pile of rubble he caused. Trying to explain himself and severely apologize for not knowing the man had been walking there, the man tells him that it's okay and that it was too late to help him anyway. Losing blood quickly, the stranger tells Riffel that he was only searching for his grandmother. Horrfied, Riffel learns that her name was Flux... He explains to the grandson that he now lives in her house, specifically leaving out the part that she was no longer among the living.

The stranger begs Riffel to tell her about him and to learn from her how to become a state alchemist in his place. After he died a few moments later, filled with distraught and guilt, Riffel was no longer able to face Flux's gravestone. He left her house, swearing that when he did return, he would have become a great state alchemist and would tell her all about it...

On his journey away from Flux, he wandered a great deal and eventually found himself in Central. Fatigued from journeying so much, and having spent all of his money on various things and meals, he ran into Tsune who seemed to be suffering a similar fate. Unfortunately it was because of Riffel that Tsune was partly in pain, and the two were off to a bad start until a man named Xan appeared out of nowhere like a savior from heaven. He helped both of them and offered Riffel and Tsune free food in exchange for friendship.

As the days wore on, it eventually became the day of Flux's death and the day that Riffel hates the most because of a promise he made to Flux. He decided to wear the puffy jacket that was given to him by Flux and visit her grave. However, he ends up meeting an interesting woman named Zeeva along the way and befriends her. He finds it interesting that she has such a strange family, and comes to find her as a friend.

He later finds himself kidnapped, and brought to a strange land known as Xing. There he met a strange stuttering girl named Labelisa. He thought she was a bit weird, but looking back he assumed it was because Riffel was freaking out at the time. However, he was given directions by her in order to get back to Central.

While back in Central, he literally fell upon another group of people: Reila, Spencer, and Jay. He came to enjoy his time with them getting Dr. Peppers and talking. It was really a coincidence that he had met them all.

After meeting a girl named Ilona, Riffel believed that he had finally found a home. She invited him to stay for the night, and he believed that he was finally free from living on the streets! Perhaps it would have been the start of a brand new life for him. However, the next day any hope that he had of having a new home with Ilona collapsed after she received a phone call ordering her to Briggs. So now Riffel was back to where he was.

Deciding to bring his life back together, Riffel set out to complete his task and to become a state alchemist like he had promised Flux. He started to think of new ways to make his alchemy more powerful so that he could be of use to the military and set forth to complete the exam hoping to get in.

ALCHEMIC ABILITY:
→ Riffel has two modified juttes (that are larger versions of tuning forks). He bangs them together in order to achieve a resonating sound. The sound that it makes can be amplified by Riffel’s special ability to time precisely when to hit the juttes together in order to make the sound waves grow stronger. The more times he hits the juttes together, the larger the sound waves will get and the further it is able to travel. This can only be achieved because Riffle is naturally able to hear the echoes given off by the sounds in the air due to his blindness giving him increased hearing.

Riffel can then aim this sound at his opponent by making a pathway in the air using the alchemic circles on his juttes. What the circles do is they deconstruct the water molecules in the selected path and reconstruct them surrounding the appointed area, creating this invisible tunnel of sound in which he can direct at his foe. The reason why this works is because the water molecules in the air abates the loud sound waves and reduces them much like ear plugs would, thus condensing it into what would typically be referred to as a ray of sound.

The only problem with this attack is that since the path is made up of air, his attack cannot be used in an enclosed space (as it would cause mass destruction even to him). Even so, the result of this attack is that the objects that the sounds are directed to break apart or in some cases, explode due to the intense vibrations.

After much training Riffel can now increase the blast of his alchemy by being able to concentrate on the sound that the juttes make and increase their resonance by hitting them together more times. Before Riffel could only hit them together a few times but now since he is able to hit them more times the destruction that his echo alchemy is greatly increased.

Also his training allowed Riffel to be able to now have more control over his alchemic powers. This allows him to concentrate his blast radius and he can now make it a wide radius blast or a small blast at his target. However he can still only do one blast at a time.
