DESCRIPTION:
→ The words to describe Mariette would be apt as "slightly malnourished". He legs though, mostly her thighs and backside, are slightly on the large side, giving her from the waist down a bold definition. From there up, she's rather thin: slender neck, smooth, flat stomach, feminine features. Her body type, given her cup size being a B, is rather that of any average woman, not too much of a hourglass, but she has curves. That being said, Mariette is an attractive woman. Her skin is a fair, golden, tone and has a fair complexion to match it. Her hair is full and bouncy, and is completely ruby red. It reaches her waist due to disregard to cut it and it has chest long bangs that frame her face. Her face is teardrop shaped, with two large amber eyes and small, light pink lips. Her nose is small, child-like and so are her ears. Her back is smooth besides a few imperfections. Down her spine and across her shoulder blades are a series of puncture points, scars from several needles. They make a cross shape and each puncture wound is perfectly spaced.
Then there's her "Lamia" form. Her skin slowly morphs into scales, red scales running up the side of her body and the tops of her arms and golden ones up her stomach and chest. They reach up to her neck then stop, leaving her face untouched besides diamond shapes on her cheeks. From the top of her thighs downwards, her legs assimilate into a 10 foot snake appendage with the same pattern of her torso scales. Her tail isn't ended in a rattle or some decoration, but very smooth like most snakes. Her pupils become vertical lines, like that of a snake and her upper canines grow into fangs. Underneath her tongue are some sort of developing glands, but they have no purpose as of yet.
Her sense of fashion, though essentially new, goes towards warm clothing. She wears mostly sweaters and jackets coupled with skirts. She WOULD wear pants, though for conflicting reasons which shall be named now. 1) In her Lamia form, not EVERYTHING assimilates into the tail, therefore, SOMETHING must cover it. 2)Transforming back, she believes should not require bringing a change of pants. In the chill of Gelemorte, Mariette wears heavy fur dresses that reach her ankles which look oddly familiar to Water Tribe feminine wear (Avatar is a show she's come to love since release). She's soft spoken and light-footed, dainty in many aspects. Even when she looks like a threatening snake woman, she still has that quality. She slithers lightly and hisses softly. A kind snake woman, non?~

PERSONALITY:
→ Mariette is a very sweet, driven girl. She likes to help and be useful to those around her and likes to be close to those she is friends with. Mariette's drive comes from her passion for the things she loves, which gets her through the day. She rarely discloses these passions, not having the correct social skills (yet) to really communicate correctly. Having been in such a closed environment for so long, Mariette suffers from an almost crippling case of shyness, only ever ACKNOWLEDGING those she's known for a prolonged period of time, which makes making friends hard for the lil' one, bless her heart. She's very quiet even when she does speak; most think the girl could hardly manage a scream without scaring herself. Even when she's very closed to most, she can enjoy herself perfectly fine.
Her love of the warmth is in some ways a weakness to her. She requires outside warmth to stay alert and to stay awake. She's extremely drowsy in the morning if she doesn't get the right amount of heat. She sleeps in her chimeric form every night, wrapping her snake appendage around a body pillow to try and keep in what warm she has. She likes being close to heat sources (including people she's allowed to become friends with). She enjoys flowers, in every shade and color because it stimulates her brain to see something other than white and steel gray; the two primary colors of her "home". She dislikes the cold (for obvious reasons) and small spaces like closets or small cars. If she has to ride anywhere, it would have to be in the back of a truck where she can spread herself out.
Speaking of spreading out, since she spent so much time in this form growing up, she feels more comfortable in Lamia form than human. Though, because she doesn't want to scare people because she's a snake woman, she will try and stay transformed into her human form for the sake of people around her. This form is hard for her to maintain since she is new to overemotional states, like happiness and excitement. This can also be caused by physical over-stimulation. Sometimes her skin will flux into scales and her thighs will begin to merge, but if she's mindful of it she can suppress it. Besides the fact she's a snake, Mariette is almost like any other shy, teenage girl.
LOVE:
→ Warm places and clothing, helping others, music(particularly symphonic and orchestral pieces), flowers, wide open space, chocolate, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Wolfystein~, Hot baths, peaceful star filled nights (when she's awake, that is)
HATE:
→ Tight spaces, needles, cold climate, smart cars, sherbet or any type of frozen dessert, ice, overbearing scents like perfumes and deodorant, white lab coats
DEEPEST SECRET:
→ Killed her best friend while in captivity. She doesn't like to talk about it.
IDOL:
→ Wolfgang Murinyo, the benevolent man that he is.

File: Subject #3957
Project: Lamia
Project Trial: #78
Project: Lamia
Project Trial: #78
Subject #3957 is the first in many error trials at a creation of a chimera with the ability to transform. The laboratory has put forth many chimeric breakthroughs in the field of the "1st Generation", but there has been a strive for more complex productions, as per the statement made by Sir Invidia. As such, we have acquired Subject #3957 for out 78th Trial for Project Lamia. Project Lamia's goal is to create a human with the ability of transforming into a snake. Our female subjects are not rejecting the DNA as much as our male subjects, so we have agreed on another female subject. The DNA used in this trial has the lowest rejection average. Red Spitting Cobra DNA shall be administered to subject.
4 months after administration, Subject #3957's bloodwork shows she has accepted the DNA. Her signs of transforming have yet to develop, but her senses appear to be heightened. A "4th Generation" chimera has been produced.
Subject has seemed to be socially accepted within the other chimeras. Despite being physically human, she seems to be conversing with the other experiments. This has created problems with Subject #3957. Other Subjects are tampering with her docile mindset. Subject is beginning to develop signs of rebellion. Sedative action has been taken to ensure wanted results.
Subject #3957 has yet to experience puberty. This may be due to the DNA, but her body has yet to develop as a human female's would. Despite this, her emotions have been unstable. Violent moodswings are occurring and safety measures are being put in place. I fear if this continues we may have to abort this trial.
Subject has, after mass amount of stimuli, transformed. Her chimeric state is as predicted, resembling that of the project's namesake. Project Lamia has been concluded as a success with minimal fiscal loses at best. Even so, Subject has discontinued feeding. Subject does not converse with the others. I conclude the Subject has experienced trauma after stimuli. Medication shall be ordered to treat this while she is placed on IV nutrients to balance out her hormonal moodswings.
Laboratory #5, as well as the Ciel Dominion Chimeric Research Division, has been discontinued. In order to keep the research safe, many Subjects as of now have been incinerated. Others have escaped due to militaristic intervention. Wolfgang Murinyo was informed of our experiments and has shut us down. He has taken one into his care. Subject #3957.
End of journal.
This is the account of Mariette Demarque Lebreaux's life. But not her account. This journal was kept by Dr. Johnathan Craysmith, lead researcher for this "Project Lamia". As you can imagine, Mariette's recollection of events is quite different. Incredibly so.
Mariette was born to a poor family in a poor village. She can rarely remember anything about her actual home besides the fact it was always cold in the little shack they called home. She remembered these guys, big guys in lab coats come to the little shanty town. She was four when it happened. They gave Mom and Dad a briefcase, filled with money, in exchange for Mariette. They picked her up and no matter how hard she kicked or screamed or bit, they wouldn't let her go. Nor would anyone help her.
It was a long ride on bumpy roads in a pale white van. She was amongst cages and on every bump, something whined in pain. She looked inside the steel cages and only saw eyes. Scared. Angry. Hurt. That's what those things saw in Mariette, and what she saw in those creatures. She grew accustomed to the bumps soon as she had tired herself out from attempting to fight back. She fell asleep soon. Her then auburn hair was her only blanket besides her arms that were nestled into her cheeks.
She awoke in a large glass tube. It was warm, humid, almost to hot for the little girl who had spent most of her days in the nipping cold. Her clothes were replaced with a paper hospital gown and she had a intense burning, itching sensation in the back of her neck. She scratched at it until a loud thump smacked the glass. It was dark beyond the glass, nothing but darkness. She was encased in the inky black, moving to the middle to be away from all of it, curling her knees against her chest. Then the lights went up. Cages, hundreds and hundreds of cages she though, all containing animals of every type. In a row spanning from her right and left were other glass tubes, dark glass though. In front of her was a lab-coated man, holding a clipboard. He glanced up for a moment before writing more down. Mariette moved closer to the glass and tapped it. She constantly said "Let me out!" over and over, but he couldn't hear. That's it, she just had to be louder. She started yelling at him. Then a voice piped up from a nearby tube.
"Save your energy, kid. You'll need every bit." It was feminine. She sounded...tough, was all that Mariette could surmise. She sounded like a grown-up too, but she couldn't see her. Then the coat moved away from her and flicked on the lights to the other tubes. There was a wolf in the other tube. The tube where the voice came from. It looked at her and its snout moved like a human's lips. "Surprise, kid. Welcome to the Petting Zoo." Mariette was in complete horror. This wolf had human eyes. It had hair, like a woman's hair. It stared at her then...laughed. It then did a few circles, lied down, and went straight to sleep. Then the lights went out again. In the tube and outside.
Only months of several needles, dark days, and relentless screaming of creatures had gone by before she began to notice changes. She could smell better, taste better, hear better. Every sense was heightened and it placed her too much on edge. She looked at herself in the reflection of the glass. She could've sworn she saw her pupils flash into something that looked like...cat or...snake eyes. Her hair was beginning to tinge into a red color. The lights went up again and she shielded her eyes. The wolf looked at her again. And spoke much more than last time. "Looks like you're one of the lucky ones kid. I've seen alot of people go through that tube. You're one of the youngest, too...a shame. Nice to meet you, kid." Mariette had grown accustomed to the wolf's presence and its strange abilities. She looked to it and squeaked a weak "Hi". From there, it was a friendship that, when you live in a place where you could be alive one day then dead the next, grew with the speed of light. There were others, much more defiant than young Mariette, but the wolf was her confidant. Her "best" friend.
Her name was Mimi. She guessed she was 27 by then, trying to recount how long she'd been here. She had a husband and two children before coming to this place. Forced, rather, but she was still here. The scientists which took her needed to see the effects of chimera-izing an adult female. She'd lived her for perhaps 4 years now. She informed Mariette throughout her life in captivity, giving any advice that could help her better survive. Why? Looking back, Mariette supposed that...from what she remembered about Mimi, she looked like one of her kids. She probably couldn't stand the sight of anything happening to such a small girl. Through the years, Mariette's hair became entirely crimson. She ate small meals, she was administered blood tests, and they put her through grueling physical tests. Soon, she began to become incredibly rebellious. Instead of sitting and waiting for the needle, she bit the hand that held it. She would fight the orderlies, but soon they began slipping sedatives into her food.
Over the course of 4 years, she produced no results of transformations. Coats would come through and yell into her tube and yell at other coats. They called her words like "subject" or "lamia" or "failure". After living with that constantly, she could barely remember her real name.
Then came that day. When she finally transformed. She had woken up that day and immediately looked to Mimi's tube. It was empty. She bolted up to her feet and started banging on the glass. Coats were already there, smiling, staring. Orderlies grabbed her and took her to a new room. It was large, like a court, and concrete. She was placed on one end and on the other, a cage. A buzz cracked through the air and the cage opened. A growling mass of fur lumbered out of the steel, barking at Mariette. She cringed and looked to the animal. It was Mimi, no mistaking it. But she looked...dead. As if her soul was sucked out. She bolted at Mariette without a thought. Mimi didn't have the capability to think anymore.
Mariette ran and ran and ran from her as long as she could, but soon she was backed into a corner, chest heaving up and down as she gasp for breath. She closed her eyes and...felt her body move on its own. Mimi barked and bolted at Mariette. She was assured to be ripped to ribbons. Then Mimi whimpered. Then came a sickening snap. Then a crunch. Mariette's eyes opened with tears. She looked to Mimi. The beast was wrapped in a crimson serpent tail. She followed the curl up her legs to her own scales. She...was a snake. This is what they did to the others. The others in her tube. She cried and screamed as she whipped her legs, inadvertently throwing Mimi's lifeless body to the far end of the court. There was clapping. Cheering. Mariette threw up what little food she had, plus more. She passed out in that corner and woke up only a few days later.
She had yet to come back to her human form. She remained as the beast that killed Mimi...but Mimi WASN'T Mimi. She tried to make herself understand that, but she just couldn't. She killed and she was only eight. Instinct had done it, but it was her body. She couldn't even understand nor fathom the guilt that followed over the coming years.
She shut out everything. She refused to eat, drink, even sleep. The scene kept playing over and over and over. She was hooked into an IV system for the rest of her time. But the guilt slowly faded as the need to survive took control. She ate very little, but she ate. The tube's internal temperature would be lowered to induce her to sleep. She curled into her tail and tried to stay warm. She continued their physical tests. She didn't have the fight anymore. Not in this place. And so, Subject #3957 went through the motions like an artificial being for the next ten years. She had no inkling of emotion anymore. She wouldn't allow it. Mimi kept strong to the Coats. So would she.
On the day of release, her slumber was shook by rumbling. Rubble fell from the concrete ceiling as she rose on her tail. Gunfire proceeded it, echoing louder and louder. Coats started bursting into the room, grabbing specimens, documents, and other chimeras. They tossed them all into the gym shower sized crematorium, burning them all within. Mariette sat there, staring at her folded hands in her lap. If this was how it was going to end, she'd been blessed. A bullet was far less painful. So much faster too. But, once the doors opened, dead Coats fell in. Men in black, heavy...armor came in, wielding firearms. One was not dressed as such, but he unlocked Mariette's cell. The man stood there as Mariette slithered towards him, her tail unfurling. Scales turned to skin. Tail to legs. With a wobbly sprint, she threw her arms around the man as if he were her father. She was crying into his chest. It was like waking up from a bad dream. Wolfgang Murinyo had woken her up. He asked her for her name.
"Mari...ette. My name is Mariette."
And the rest...is, as they say, history.
