DESCRIPTION:
→ Varod has piercing blue eyes that seem to examine everything that they fall under. His gaze glances all over the place, taking in as much as possible. He wears simple jeans and a hoodie, with the occasional hat. The short blond hair that cascades around the top of his face sways as he stands, and when he moves his gait never strays and is always fast-paced. His voice is calm, and sometimes a little off-putting as he can sound rather rude when he's really just analyzing. Behind his bottom lip is a tiny scar from when he was a baby and tripped, piercing the bottom lip. The young man has tourrettes syndrome and this causes him to jerk uncontrollably from time to time, or manifest in new "tics," which could be sounds or movements. He always moves something, at the very least his fingers, which are always tapping away at his thigh when he is sitting around. This is why in his jeans pocket he normally keeps something or other to fiddle with.

PERSONALITY:
→ The simplest description of Varod Gilther would be "high functioning sociopath," however, this describes merely his surface. Underneath his cool and collected exterior, he is very kind and would never hurt anyone who was innocent. However, he will do things that are morally incorrect, such as steal from rich people if poor people are in need, but he would also stop a rampaging murderer if he could. His morality is very circumstantial, as he trusts in subjective morality and believes all others more than likely should. He wouldn't hit an innocent person, for a simple, yet imperfect example, but would hit a person who was attacking someone else. Friendship plays a major part in this, as he would die for his friends willingly. However, if someone is wrong he'll say it, simple as that, regardless of who they are. This stems from his belief that just because someone is older or has more authority, that doesn't mean they are better than anyone else. He debates a lot, and is always looking for something he disagrees with to say something about it. The eyes that scan everything also search for knowledge. His knowledge, he feels, is all that separates him from other people. Varod also feels that without the power of knowledge he'd revert to a homeless man.

Then there is his other side, the side that only his friends see. He jokes around a lot and pokes fun, but everyone who meets could clearly see if they would but look a caring man. He feels the world is too oppressive for a healthy person to develop in society, and feels very strongly about it. The people who are around him most see him going out of his way to help people who tug at his heart strings, such as small children and cripples. However, others do not get as much attention.

HISTORY:
→ Growing up in Kanama, Varod had very few friends. He mostly tinkered with mechanics and the like with what little he could find, creating small contraptions around the little shack his "family" shared. By family, this means group of street rats he happened to fall in with, the oldest of them having taken care of him as long as he could remember. There were four of them, not counting Varod himself. They would pick-pocket people to make a living, and Varod would peddle whatever interesting thing he'd made that week. They became closer over the years, becoming more like a real family than a group of thieves. Then, one day, his world changed forever. He was clambering over rooftops at the age of fifteen, free-running like normal when he fell brutally through the roof of a boarded up warehouse. Inside were books upon books on the subject of alchemy, and his inquisitive mind tore through them. He brought them home in bucket loads, and began to do small alchemy with transmutation circles. However, this alienated his friends. For about a year they put up with him held up in his room, but then the leader decided that he wasn't worth the trouble anymore and promptly kicked him out.

For the next couple of years, the young man honed his alchemy skills, learning to use it to pull off heists much greater than the ones his little group had managed and living in the warehouse he'd uncovered. His favorite part, however, was wind alchemy. He felt so free using it to help people, using it to do whatever was necessary. Being able to pull off long free-running jumps, in his opinion, was the greatest thing ever. He also did nice things. For instance, he once saved a woman from a mugger. The woman made to thank him, recognized him and hurried away. This shunning caused him to be somewhat of a hermit, never having friends. Once he turned twenty, he finally gave up and came out of his life of hiding and made to leave his hidey hole for the last time.

This turned out to have been a fantastic move, as if he hadn't he would never have been able to do the following: escape. The police force had managed to track him down, and he'd just barely missed them as they crashed in the boards as he clambered up through the hole in the ceiling. He leaped across buildings, running as fast as he could and eventually managed to lose them. He intends to leave Kanama now, and head out to make a better name for himself than "that thief boy." Perhaps he would be able to make a name for himself as a state alchemist at some point?
