Spoiler:

DESCRIPTION:
→ Though his skin is pale, Alexander is far from cold (both figuratively and literally). Due to his body heat, some have occasionally described him as a portable heater, even though Krull is of a more feminine build. He lacks significant muscle definition, but he isn’t flabby, either. From a distance, he looks very average, but on closer examination (shirtless and in shorts), he does have a fairly decent muscle mass, including his abdominal muscles and his arms. His hands are slightly larger than the average female‘s, but also slightly smaller than the average male’s. On the other hand, he has about average shoe size for a male his age. When it comes to height he’s shorter than average. Anyone who knows him enough will avoid making comments about it (for the sake of their own safety). He has narrow shoulders and a thin waistline for a guy. Alex’s right leg is automail from half-thigh onward. It’s the typical northern automail, though, so it’s lighter than regular automail. He tries to keep it concealed most of the time, as he’s feels a bit anxious about having it in the first place.

His hair is a rich brown color, and his eyebrows thin. He wears his hair in a messy, shaggy fashion. It seems to splay outward and upward due to the natural curling of it, but he doesn’t bother to straighten it anymore. He has decided that he has better ways to occupy his time than changing the shape of his hair. His eyes are a golden brown, slightly lighter than his hair, and upon thorough examination, they have an unexplainable depth to them, very much mirroring his personality. When he is expressionless, it may seem that he is in a bad mood, mainly because he is usually seen smiling. Even his eyes seem to have a glow to them on most occasions.

Although his style of dress is not very distinct, he does like to keep things a specific way when he’s not in uniform. First of all, layers. He loves to layer his shirts. Alex isn‘t too fond of extreme temperatures, and being at Briggs means blistering cold (according to him), so he likes to layer a long-sleeved shirt under a t-shirt, even if he wears a hooded sweatshirt or a heavy jacket over everything else. The color combinations usually include blues or black. Occasionally he may wear a long-sleeved by itself, but you won’t see him wear a simple t-shirt by itself very frequently unless he is in areas with a warmer climate (even if he’s indoors in cold areas). When he feels more introverted than usual, he can also be seen wearing a black or red hooded sweatshirt (that zips).

The boy likes to include a very small set of accessories to his everyday attire. This includes a loose, black or brown leather belt that hangs diagonally along his body, as well as the occasional pair of gloves, ranging from full to fingerless. His glasses are black and plastic-rimmed, with the word Converse going along the left side (the left side of his head when he’s wearing them - HIS left). He never goes anywhere without his glasses, because he’s used to having to read various documents at any given time. Hats are also an important part of his clothing. He owns a variety of hats, in different styles, colors, and designs.

Jeans, jeans, sweatpants, cargos, and more jeans. He mostly wears skinny jeans (which he sags slightly), but the colors range from black to different shades of blues and reds, and occasionally white (only on special occasions). He doesn’t like to wear anything too baggy, even when it comes to shirts, but he will wear sweatpants on days when he’s feeling lazy. The latter will be either gray or black. On rare occasions, when the weather permits, he wears black, red-striped shorts that could be seen as more swimming trunks than actual shorts.

Chuck Taylor. That’s the single word that describes his choice of footwear (aside from socks) that aren’t his typical red shoes. The only variation in this is whether he decides to wear high-tops, low-tops, or even the ones that reach up to his knees. In terms of color, he usually sticks to the traditional black and white, but he may also choose to wear fully black shoes, red and white shoes, or the kind that have designs on them (with a black base, most of the time).

He typically walks with his back straight, but he tends to look at the ground when he walks. The slightly metallic sound from his right automail leg gives his gait an asymmetrical “feel” to it. His voice is very raspy, and sounds borderline feminine, but does not usually incline to show emotion. Many people have commented on the fact that he usually sounds monotone, but he refuses to discuss the matter. In conjunction with his bipolar disorder, when he becomes agitated and irritable (note: typically angry or appearing to be under high stress), he will also have a slightly altered physical appearance. His hair becomes messy as a result of his agitated movements, and hangs into his face. He becomes much more jumpy in his walk, and his voice picks up slightly in pitch (his pupils may also dilate) and picks up in volume. Screaming becomes the normal volume for him at this point. However, due to the fact that he has been on lithium for quite some time now, he rarely experiences a shift in mood.

PERSONALITY:
→As a general rule, Alex makes it a point to stay calm. He’ll tell you that calm is a perfect predecessor for deep, insightful thought, and given his current occupation, a lot of good, old fashioned thinking is necessary. He doesn’t raise his voice at anyone, but since he speaks in monotone, that’s already expected. The main reason he appears calm is because he puts a lot of energy into being calm and collected all the time. His main goal is to avoid becoming angry and violent out of habit, so forcing himself to stay one way all the time can make his personality seem flat at first. He doesn’t mind it if people find him to be plain and monotonous. In fact, he prefers for people to know him as a calm, monotonous, boring person because it means they don’t know him as he can be when things get really nasty.

Aside from being generally calm, Alex K. tends to stay very collected and rational. He puts a lot of thought into everything he does, and this can sometimes lead people to perceive him as a workaholic. This is technically true, but Alex doesn’t think he’s really as addicted to his work as people think, he just puts a lot of effort and thought into his work. After all, political affairs can be a complicated subject that requires a lot of thought. He can also be very insightful and is a good giver of advice. Despite his lack of worldly experience, Alex is very philosophical about many, many things. His thoughtful demeanor leads him to be a very quiet person, even when he is in the middle of a very productive conversation. He doesn’t think that a person should be judged by how much they say, but WHAT they say. This quiet demeanor also makes him an excellent listener.

His quiet, thoughtful disposition helps him to understand other people better. He’s the kind of person who notices when someone is acting different or when something is wrong, and he can sympathize with them. If someone is having a problem and approaches him for advice, he takes an objective standpoint and avoids any biases. He never judges people, and is so accepting that practically anyone could be his friend. In the past he was frequently the person that people went to for advice or if they just needed someone to listen, so he’s quite used to the task of cheering someone up with philosophical advice. Occasionally he’ll give unwanted advice, though, if he feels that it’s necessary for him to comment on the issue. Given that he feels he has a personality flaw, it would explain why he doesn’t judge others and can easily feel sympathetic toward them.

Alex, being a quiet person, used to keep to himself. Being along made it easier for him to write, read, think… you name it. He does his best work when he’s left alone for a while to think. That doesn’t mean he can’t work when he’s around people, he’s just accustomed to being alone most of the time. This is mostly because he didn’t want anyone to find out about his disorder, but it hasn’t been as big of an issue since he began taking medication. With the addition of these prescription medications, however, he’s constantly worried that the side-effects will kick in at inconvenient times, especially his hand tremors, as those are near impossible to hide. In addition, he tends to keep his distance from people even during conversation. He loves his personal space more than he loves chocolate milk (which is a lot of love…seriously). In fact, he’ll try to stay at least 2 feet away from someone when speaking with them unless the conversation involves more personal information and requires whispering (or lower volume conversation).

Despite this, he took Reila’s advice and began to force himself into more social situations and tried to bring up his confidence. She had once told him that he had to be able to stand up for himself if he was to get anywhere in life, and he took that to heart. Especially now that she’s gone, he finds it important to keep trying to get past his shy disposition. It’s the main reason he transferred to the political affairs department from the logistics department (not that he’d admit it). Luckily, his sympathetic, empathic nature has served him well in this new department.

If his bipolar disorder kicks in, he typically becomes incredibly irritable and verbally aggressive. He becomes irrational, and acts on impulse rather than thinking things through first. His behavior is so wild and impulsive that it makes it difficult to predict what he’s going to do next. He loses all sense of calm, and would even hurt people that he would normally consider friends - even others at Briggs. He has even been known to be oblivious to his own situation. He could be bleeding to death, but wouldn’t pay it any mind unless he managed to calm down enough to see things rationally. On the other hand, this can shift quickly to a state of depression, but this rarely happens.

HISTORY:
→When Alexander was born, he was not yet Alexander…he was born Alexandra Krull, a lovely daughter to two proud parents. They were in Central, and lived in a two-bedroom apartment. The second bedroom was used to house their newest family member. The baby girl was spoiled by love, and received a lot of attention from her parents and her extended family. Her parents showered her with love, attention, and all sorts of gifts that one would normally give a baby girl. They weren’t necessarily wealthy, but Alex’s father joined the military to begin building a better income to give his family more support. It was certain that having a baby girl would mean a lot of cute little clothes - especially dresses. It wasn’t long before they were able to move into a decent house.

After reaching the toddler stage, Alex was quite literally a “wild child”, breaking plates, stumbling around the house, and screaming when things weren’t quite right. She gave her parents quite the headache all the time. Her first word was “No!” and the first complete phrase she could say was, “No, dun do dat!”. She was a troublesome daughter, and once she could figure out how, she would take off every dress her parents put on her, preferring to wear shorts over the frilly contraptions. As a result, her parents stopped buying dresses and instead bought t-shirts, jeans, and shorts. She was a low maintenance daughter for sure.

By the time Alex got to grade school, she strayed from the typical path of a girl, becoming more of a tom boy. She liked to play games like the boys, read action stories, and do a lot of other things that would normally be attributed to a little boy. On the other hand, though, she retained her love for plush toys. This confused not only her parents, but anyone who knew Alex Krull. Eventually Alex began to develop crushes on some of her classmates after reaching the end of grade school. This included both the boys and the girls in her classes. She was confused about it, and decided not to mention it to anyone.

Upon reaching middle school, Alex’s peers tended to avoid her for the most part, except for a select few. Those few became Alex’s “clique”, so to speak. They accepted the fact that she was different, but she never mentioned her strange attractions to both genders. After developing a strong crush on one of her close friends (who happened to be a girl), Alex began to avoid them altogether and got into writing. She would often be found writing by herself near the gymnasium. By the time her middle school years were over, Alex had developed strong enough writing skills that she had joined the school newspaper with her own column. It anonymously addressed questions, giving students advice on whatever problems they may have had.

When she started high school, Alex decided to take up art classes, and she found that she had a talent for still life drawings. She could draw portraits and other things just fine, but her still life drawings were her most successful pieces. It was in her science classes that she began to take an interest in blood, as a substance. She spent a lot of time in the school and publice libraries researching as much information about blood as she could when she happened upon a book about alchemy. It was something different, and she kept the thoughts in the back of her mind for the time being. She liked blood a lot, and not just because it was one of the most important substances for the human body.

Over the course of her high school years, Alex was paying so much attention to her researching and her art that she didn’t pay attention to any romantic interests. However, she did still have that compelling urge to fit her gender role better than she did. The only problem was that she didn’t really want to change her habits. She liked how she was for the most part, but felt that she was more of a guy than a girl. Without talking to her parents first (her relationship with her parents wasn’t bad, she just grew distant from them over time), Alex sought the advice of a doctor, who first told her about the possibilities of becoming male. It would be expensive, and Alex wouldn’t be able to get the money on her own, that much was certain. After giving it a month of thought, she decided to go through with it. Her parents knew nothing of it because Alex forged any and all signatures necessary for getting the process started, but after being put on “T” (hormone treatment that precedes any surgeries), her parents knew something was up. They talked about it, and when Alex refused to give up on it, her father avoided her at home. Her mother was more understanding, though, and after getting through the surgeries involved, Alexandra finally became Alexander.

Once the gender transformation was completed, Alex remembered the alchemy book that he had seen and began to think about alchemy as something that he might take up. The book that he had suggested that an alchemist begin by focusing on a specific kind of alchemy, and it was no surprise that Alex chose to apply his knowledge of blood to his alchemy. It was during this period that he experienced his first bipolar “incident”, and he had lost his leg in the process. He was writing notes in a small notepad that he owned while waiting in line at a convenience store. When he got to the register, a man approached the cashier and demanded that she give him all of the money currently in the register. Well, hey, it was nice to know that people actually did break laws and such. When the cashier refused, the man pulled out a handgun and shot her in the arm. Upon seeing the blood that began to drip from the girl’s arm, Alex blacked out.

When he came to, the entire convenience store was wrecked and he was being taken away by the ambulance. He felt excruciating pain, and looked down to find that his entire right leg was missing. It was bandaged, and he was so drained of energy that he lost consciousness again for some time. After he awoke again, it was decided that he would be able to make good use of automail. The prosthetic limb would be less expensive because it wouldn’t be large; Alex was rather short, especially for his age. It took some time to get used to it, and the physical therapy was draining, but eventually he could walk and run as though he had never lost his leg. To make up for having a prosthetic limb, the boy began to exercise and lift weights regularly, but only to the extent of building a good amount of muscle. He didn’t want to end up being TOO big.

Since his father didn’t talk to him anymore, Alex only kept communication up with his mother. She didn’t tell him about what really happened at the convenience store until later, after he had joined the military and been moved to Briggs up north. Based on the police report, Alex had lashed out at the criminal, who shot back at him, hitting him in the leg multiple times. At the time, Alex was so berserk that he tore his own leg off to improve his mobility. The criminal was subdued, but Alex passed out from his severe blood loss, and it was a miracle that he had survived. He began to pull himself away from everyone after finding out about his own behavior. Being bipolar was something he’d never expected, and he was as surprised about the fact that he had never noticed it before as he was about the fact that he was bipolar in the first place. He began to control himself and became more of a solid, calm person in order to compensate for his “other side”. He hoped he would never have to go through an experience like that again.

Moving to Briggs took a lot of getting used to, especially since he was being promoted to the Head of Military Operations. Given a heavy position like that, he chose The transition to lighter automail was strange for him, and the low temperatures were also quite frustrating to deal with. To this day he still hates the cold weather. While there, however, he met one person in particular that changed the way he viewed things – Reila Tsukino. She had a good heart, and though her method wasn’t necessarily gentle, she did cause him to move on and make an effort to become a better person. That was mainly in terms of him being able to hold his ground, especially verbally, as he had been harassed by a woman known as Inimeg Ty (He’s glad he doesn’t have to deal with her anymore). Though it took some effort and some self-confidence classes, he gradually began to come out of his shell.

There was still the issue of his multiple personalities, however. During an attack on Drachma, he shifted personalities again, and it was during that time that his “condition” was brought to Reila’s attention. Upon the military’s return, she scheduled a meeting, but instead of reprimanding him, she told him that it was time he moved on from whatever was causing his issue and to forgive himself for what had happened. It was that moment that had placed Reila in Alex’s books as one of the most influential and amazing people he’d met.

After working with papers as opposed to being sent to the field, he began to attend therapy sessions that helped with his psychological recovery. However, he stopped getting better after a certain point, where he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. While the sight of blood no longer triggered a change in personality, he did develop a phobia of it. He stopped studying it as well as alchemy to avoid the subject of blood altogether. He even had to (and still has to) turn away when getting shots or vaccinations. Aside from those setbacks, it seemed he would be able to operate with the military without too much trouble, as long as he continued to take his medication. That was until Reila was shot.

Reila’s apparent death caused the onset of his absence seizures. Though it was originally assumed to be the result of the stress, the seizures did not stop the way that was predicted, and as a result, an anticonvulsant was added to his prescription. The medication caused dizziness as well as nausea, and he originally reused to continue taking them. When his seizures came back, however, he resumed taking the recommended dosage. Luckily the side effects began to dwindle, and affected him much less than they did before. They still resurfaced occasionally, but it was much better than his first week on the medication.

With his new prescription and the resolve to help prevent any more events like what caused Reila to be shot, Alex transferred to the political affairs department. His hope in moving there was that he would be able to keep a closer eye on what was happening between military bases as well as between countries. He permanently gave up on alchemy, locking his research and his equipment in a bank safe, praying he would never have to access them again.

TRIVIA:
→ Gave up alchemy after Reila’s death, more as a symbol of mourning, but also because of his hemophobia.
→ Bi-curious (He's not entirely sure)
→ Has hemophobia (phobia of blood)
→ Takes Lithium and an anticonvulsant for his disorder.
→ The side-effects of his medications are nausea, dizziness, and (occasionally) hand tremors.
→ Said side-effects are fairly uncommon, but are noticeable when they set in.
→ Occasionally experiences absence seizures, which are characterized by a temporary loss of consciousness similar to daydreaming. This is rare, however, and if it happens, it’s usually because he hasn’t taken his medication.
→His father now has a restraining order against him on account of his “insanity”.
→ Fluent in: Amestrian (springgreen), Cretan (steelblue), Xingese (orangered), Drachman (white), and Aerugese (silver).
→ In the process of learning: Gelemortian Rouenian (gold), Esparian (pink), Cerisian (blueviolet), and Creig (maroon). He knows a bit more than just the basics.
