DESCRIPTION:
→ Now, contrary to what certain pictures may lead you to believe, Ryuu has two well-functioning eyes. He did get a scratch on his right eye when he first became chief, which required him to wear an eyepatch for a couple weeks. He blames bad timing that a bunch of pictures that now circulate of him show the eyepatch. His eyes are oddly gold in color and he most definitely has two of them. He has a long burn scar on the left side of his face, running from under his high and down to his jaw. He got the scar from a criminal smashing a red-hot pipe into his face when he was new on the force. Ryuu's hair is black, very straight, and runs down to mid-back. He's got large chunks of gray streaked through his hair, which he thinks makes him look dashing, rather than old. He always keeps his hair tied back, although occasionally he does braid it for dance practice.
Ryuu is average in height and scrawny-looking. But that shouldn't fool you. Ryuu is extremely strong and he's toned, but not in a body-builder way. His legs are two powerhouses of muscle and his arms are pretty tough as well (lifting in dance is hard work, you know). He doesn't make a big deal about his strength; as far as he's concerned, it's to make him a better dancer, not a show-off. His fathers taught him the art of dressing well, and he does. He always has a simple suit (and a classy tie) for work, as well as police uniform. He's not a huge fan of jeans, and prefers to wear cacky pants or “casual” dress pants. He likes polo shirts, sweaters and the occasional flannel shirt. Mostly, he dresses simply, but always well.
He is extremely light on his feet and his footsteps are often silent. He finds it kind of impossible to be silent when he wears his taps, but normally that's an occasion when he wants to be heard. He always walks with a purpose and yet... with a lyrical movement. His body always appears to be moving in one, giant dance scene, although he could be walking back and forth in his office. He has a cheerful voice, middle range in tone and a little bit raspy. It's not in an irritating or “evil” way, but it adds a little huskiness to his voice.

PERSONALITY:
→ Ryuu is a man of many things. He's a lover; although he's not exactly tied down, he does show deep and true love for people he cares about. He's always friendly but it takes awhile for him to feel deeply connected to a person. He thinks that might be part of the reason why he's never found the “one,” but he's not deterred. He's a fighter; Ryuu won't back down from something he believes in, nor will he stop until he finds the truth. He also understands that nothing is as simple as it seems and so he tries to be kind to everyone. Having seen the turmoil his fathers experienced, he knows that there's always something that's ruining a person's day. Ryuu is not quite as frightening as he can appear. He's warm-hearted and extremely fair. He can be a bit stubborn, which is sometimes a burden on friendships and relationships.
Ryuu isn't always level-headed and is prone to anger, as much as the next person. He usually gets set off by people who are close-minded; his anger is the hardest to hold back when he encounters someone who is against homosexuals. He tries to keep his emotions out of his work, but sometimes difficult experiences haunt him at night. He hates to lose a criminal and he loves the joys of making things right. He also is passionate about his dancing and refuses to slack off on practice. He's dedicated and will dance at the office if forced to work late. He loves a good joke and isn't always fond of the dirty jokes. He could be considered a little prude, but he's not a cranky, old man by any means. He just thinks that certain things ought to be kept private unless absolutely necessary (like in a case). He is a big family man, although his fathers are the only family he has.
LOVE:
→ Tap dancing, ballroom dancing, watching old movies/musicals, cookies, his dads, being fair and just, long showers, running, black coffee (no sugar or cream), detective shows, soba noodles, bananas sprinkled with cinnamon sugar
HATE:
→ Homophobes, intolerance, injustice, checkers, stubbing his toes when dancing, brussel sprouts, when his hair flys into his mouth, sushi
IDOL:
→ Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Donald O'Connor, Danny Kaye

HISTORY:
→ It was supposed to have been just like any other work night. Out on patrol, trying to be the responsible cop. His partner had taken the car, so he was doing a perimeter on foot until his partner got back from the wider patrol and they could both go in for the night. He was nearly finished... so close to going home and falling into his bed for his three-day weekend. But as soon as he heard the scream, he knew his night was not going to be simple. The young police officer darted into the alley, gun out and eyes roaming. The scream came again, and he recognized it as one of pain, but not exactly of fear. Behind the dumpster, he found the source of the sound. A heavily pregnant woman was screaming... she might have been going through labor for all HE knew. He quickly put his gun away and knelt down. “Ma'am, I'm here to help you. Are you in labor?” The woman responded with a nod, although he noticed her eyes were glazed over in pain. She looked terribly ill for a pregnant woman, but he wasn't any sort of doctor. Then again, considering her attire, she was probably homeless... which could very well explain the ill look about her. He radioed in to his partner and then called out for an ambulance. The whole time, he tried to help the woman stay as comfortable as possible, wincing as she would crush his fingers when contractions hit.
It seemed like the ambulance took hours to get there, but the officer was wrong in his perception; the ambulance arrived ten minutes after it was called. The pregnant woman was loaded into the ambulance and because she refused to release his hand, the police officer went along with her to the hospital. In fact, he stayed with her the entire night. Through the rest of the labor, through the birth of a beautiful baby boy, and as she slipped away from whatever illness was ravaging her in the cool days of early December. This left the officer in a bit of a moral bind. A homeless woman had died in childbirth, and this newborn would end up in an orphanage. He supposed in other circumstances he wouldn't be all that concerned. But having seen this baby emerge into life, and even held him for the shortest time... he couldn't bear to let him go.
Quietly, Nobou Chiba began to make inquiries on how he could adopt the boy. He met with some difficulty, worrying that a single father, and a police officer to boot, couldn't possibily raise the boy well. Nobou insisted, reminding all who inquired he lived with his best friend from childhood, Hiro Sato, who could very easily help watch the boy. Others worried about the lack of a mother, but despite all the reservations and hurdle, Nobou got the boy. He finally had a son to call his own. Ryuu.
Well, to be fair, THEY had a son. Nobou had never really been honest with his work or with the hospital and government, as he went up for the adoption. Hiro was his best friend, yes. But Hiro was much more than that to Nobou. The love of his life, the one true thing in his crazy world. But it was a dangerous time to be out and gay in that time. So they were forced to hide a deep side of themselves. They're home was a quaint, 3-bedroom place. They kept up appearances with separate living quarters, although one bed was never really slept in. It was a sad lifestyle they were forced to live, but Hiro was always hopeful that one day, they would be handle to walk outside, holding hands, and the world wouldn't tear them to pieces. Nobou always figured that's because Hiro was a professional photographer, and had been since he was twenty-two. He was able to find the beauty in everything. Having been a cop since he was twenty-four... Nobou was less hopeful, now that he'd been on the force for six years.
Ryuu grew up well-loved and no one ever doubted that Daddy-Nobou and Uncle-Hiro knew how to raise the child right. Ryuu was very bright and he learned early on that his dad and his uncle were not quite what everyone thought they were. He didn't find it strange at all, although he was told by both men that he couldn't call them both “dad” in public. The world wouldn't understand, they said. Ryuu didn't exactly like it, but he wanted to keep his fathers happy. Early on, Ryuu became entranced by dance. Hiro used to put on old Fred Astaire movies when Ryuu was sad, and it always cheered him up. They enrolled him in dance courses and throughout his life, he contined to excel.
Besides his love of dance and his talent, Ryuu followed in Nobou's footsteps. In high school, he decided he wanted to become a police officer, just like his dad. He was a smart kid, and passed every class with flying colors. He entered college, where he graduated in 1996 with two degrees; one in crimnology and one in dance. 1996 was another big year for Ryuu, but his fathers finally came out to the world. Nobou retired from the police force that year to take up a more leisurely job as a security guard. Nobou and Hiro faced some hardships when they finally revealed themselves as a gay couple, but Ryuu stood alongside them to smack down any haters. Ryuu even went and had his last name changed to Sato-Chiba, to honor both of his parents.
After college, Ryuu went through the police academy. He passed every course and graduated with honors. During that time, he even managed to get on the stage a few times. He never sang, but he did a fabulous job in numerous small-time productions. Local critics raved that there had not been a dancer of that style since the 1950s. Yet, Ryuu didn't want to pursue the Broadway dream. He was content to be a police officer and dance in his free-time. He did competitions on occasion, as well as local productions. He tried to find love, but it never seemed to be in the cards for him. But he didn't mind. He was happy. He worked in his way up in the force, and took the job of the head of the police force of Aerugo when he was 35. He saw Shogun Yoshida rise to power and waits to see what justice the man will bring to his country.

TRIVIA:
→ Is an avid dancer and is quite good, although he will always admit he will never match up to the greats, like Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire.
→ However, unlike the great dancers, he is not that great of a singer. He is more of a “talk singer”, referring to Rex Harrison for his inspiration.
→ Does not know the identity of his birth mother or birth father. Assumes they were both homeless and leaves it at that.
→ He's dated a few girls and guys, but has never really found the “one”, nor has he ever really named his sexuality, although you probably could label him “bisexual.”
→ He learned Cretan from Hiro, who has a Cretan grandmother. He also learned a lot from watching old Cretan movies.
→ Speaks fluent Aerugese (purple) and Cretan (orange).
