DESCRIPTION:
→ A well-mannered individual whose physical appearance is quite endearing, if just a little bit plain. Were one to see his true face, they'd know that his skin is a bit tanned, his eyes are eyes are dark brown and his hair is mottled black with bits of it pointing all over the place much to his own dismay (and efforts to straighten it out). He's definitely on the leaner side, but maintains a well-shaped and trained physique due to the amount of physical strain and exertion his work sometimes puts him through. Part of that stressful work includes serving the President's whims.

But hardly anyone ever sees his face or really any normal semblance of 'himself' nowadays since he's forced to constantly wear an outfit, no matter what work he does, when out in public. This being a direct order from El Presidente himself unfortunately, Ranza has two specific 'outfits' that are worn depending on the job. The first is an highly colorful and extravagant attire when out doing diplomatic work. Yes, Ranza wears that ludicrous outfit when he is doing his job as an ambassador, complete with skull-like mask, flowing red capes with matching hat and multiple plumes coming out of it to boot. It's embarrassing like hell, but ah well - He's learned to just accept it and do his job as efficiently as he can: When the other parties meeting with him aren't bursting in laughter at the absurdity of it all.

The second set is a much more starkly contrasting setup of black, as opposed to the garish red and crimson. This is worn, when he's being sent off to go kill something or someone. The mask he dons (image two!) is based upon those found from ancient civilizations centuries ago, but rather than being an actual ancient artificat it is merely a reasonable reproduction. Again, he didn't get much say about this idiotic mask, but at least he got to choose the rest of the outfit. A complete set of tactical gear, including various guards, a ballistic vest, and complete other articles of clothing along with what seems to a balaclava all of mottled black and grey. Most interestingly is that the metal mask (the one based upon an actual artificat from ages ago) is also rather heavily modernized and possesses enlargement of the eyeholes and relatively sophisticated visual processors that can register thermal signatures. He (unwillingly) spent a couple pretty pennies, three arms and a kidney for that stuff (none of which were his to begin with).

Oh, and when he's in public, he ALSO doesn't show his face much. Why? Cause he hates, hates, hates to be identified as the 'Red Death' and honestly is much better off not really letting his embarrasment be the public's plaything. So, when in civilian clothing, expect him to wear loose-fitting clothes, a hoodie most likely and always having said hood drawn up ALONG with a damn scarf to wrap up at least a good chunk of the bottom half of his face.

PERSONALITY:
→ A sincere young man who has none other than the best interests of his nation at heart ... most of the time. He is polite, affable, and just a smidgen zealous to make sure Esparia remains whole and pure. Or well, whole and pure without having to come to violence, that is. To be honest, he's quite a peaceful and open-minded person, but due to the blood debt that he owes Vasco, he serves Esparia in the capacity as an Inquisitor. An almost cruel fate for him, as his loyalty and honor take precedence over his other main ideals.

His sense of values is most definitely twisted and not wholly due to instability, as he puts honor at the top and is unwilling to compromise that (since it would mean turning traitor to Esparia) for any other. This unfortunate mentality of his means he can carry out and WILL carry out his orders as an Inquisitor without fail, no matter how brutal. Fortunately, though, he has a conscience and will play with semantics and phrasing of orders to avoid the most brutal scenario (unless explicited ordered outright), while still following the commands set upon him.

As though the universe decided to throw a bone at him, when news that he was a polyglot and had mastery over most of the commonly spoken languages in the world reached Vasco, he was also appointed as an Ambassador and has improved his oratorical skills greatly. It's also helped him stay a bit more sane from the 'forced to exterminate Alchemists' missions that are still heaped upon him and other Inquisitors, but not by a whole lot.

Upon first contact, he comes off as somewhat assertive, but is actually highly negotiable and respectful. His tone of voice has a pleasant air that always conveys a message of peace, no matter what else he may be doing at the time, or even what his actual words are. That includes pointing a gun at your head and threatening to kill every blood relative of yours. Still, he genuinely is a nice fellow and likes to make conversation with anyone he knows for a fact he doesn’t have to kill.

Having a cheery outlook on life, many find him to be a tad bit annoying since he loves to talk. He can easily idly chatter away, having mastered the art of spewing millions of words per second and the filibuster. Unless, he encounters what is the enemy of Esparia or anything he has been ordered to destroy, in which case he maintains a false pleasant expression or a tortured guise while silently proceeding to terminate their existence. So, when in the work of exterminating the ‘filth’ of the world, one will note he is a cold but brutally efficient young man who does his job without pause. Or so his actions convey.

Despite his overly bright and cheerful mannerisms and affable nature, he's neither foolish nor naive. Based on his background alone, he has experience with the ugliest sides of human nature and society, and knows how to navigate his way through them. Master of maintaining appearances, (unless visibly hurting in more ways than one), there's no definite way of telling of what he's thinking at the moment, and he uses that to his advantage when dealing with the darkest parts of life. He CAN be inept, though, as he likes to venture out and try new things, and also clumsy (just an inherent part of his jubilant nature).

HISTORY:

Let's keep this brief, since there's not much to say. Ranza is a slave. There, end of story. There's nothing else to be told here, he's just an item owend by Vasco Allende and there's nothing else we need to concern ourselves with. NOTHING AT ALL . . .

Alright, fine. Let's flash back some years ago and explain HOW he ended up being owned by Vasco.

So, we start with his family, y'know? Not a stellar family, but one loyal to the lands of Esparia and sharing the same fervor as their fellow countrymen in unconditional hatred over the Gelemortians and all that jazz. So we have Ranza's father whose name is [CLASSIFIED] and ended up serving in [CLASSFIED] during the Rouen War years past. So happened that [CLASSIFIED] happened to get to know none other than the future president, VASCO ALLENDE. The two ended up being pretty good buddies, and both became survivors of that atrocious war. Unfortunately for [CLASSIFIED] though, he ended up wracking a large debt to Vasco, and realizing his friend still expected payment, opted to send his sons, including 'Ranza' into Vasco's hands to pay off the debt. And then [CLASSIFIED] fled the country with his beloved mistress. It's widely speculated he is residing in Amestris, but we shall never know.

So, that’s the past, that how’s silly poor ol’”Ranza” ended up being a slave to the President of Esparia.

Now moving on to what’s going on today: Ranza owes a massive debt to Vasco (roughly the equivalent of at least five lives and enough cash to bankrupt a small developing nation), most of which is due to the interest stacked up on it. Originally, the poor young Esparian was to be just placed into the military . . . if it weren’t for the fact that he had a slight bit of pyromania and a sort of grace while working with pyrotechnics (sort of), which then was merit enough to make him a member of the Inquisitors. His mission while with them? Purge and destroy anything that is seen as impure, by any means. And usually, any means for him meant not only shooting it until it died, but also removing any traces of it by giving it a baptism of fire and explosives. Sometimes on orders, other times because his slipping sanity from being forced to exterminate many ‘questionably impure’ things despite his protests.

Eventually, though, his good ‘Master’ realized that he had a talent for a) speaking varying languages and b) masking his true intentions. A game of poker in which two other players were shot in the face made it clear how stone-faced he could be. So, lo and behold, he became an Ambassador, representing not only the country of Esparia, but the greatness of Vasco himself. It was a curse disguised as a blessing, though, as Ranza realized that one) His identity would be forever lost now, so as to prevent anyone realizing who he was as an agent of the government and two) He had to wear this horrendous costume as Vasco commanded when doing diplomatic work.

If the young Esparian hadn’t a sense of loyalty to his country and a sense of pride to keep himself from committing suicide, he would have already fled Esparia or thrown himself off a building to die. But alas, no. He still goes on and still suffers, though he’s starting to find outlets for all this inanity.
