The Fire of Change
A room, small and quaint. There was a bed against one wall, a small dresser with a television set. An armchair in the corner. Large windows covered one wall, blinds across them causing the blazing afternoon sun to stream in slant-ways. A figure stood over a desk in front of this window, his face obscured by shadow. He gazed downwards, looking over a stack of papers. He leaned forward, placing his hands palm down on the desk. His massive frame became even more twisted in the shadows, an ominous figure in the mix of darkness and light. A smaller figure came into the shadow and deftly twisted the blind-rod, cutting the light out of the room completely. A groan was heard from the larger figure as the other moved across the room, flipping a light switch. The room was flooded in a soft glow, far less harsh than the sun, as well as far more revealing. The large figure, revealed to be a towering man groaned again, running a hand through his hair. "Did you really have to do that? Now my eyes are out of focus!" The smaller figure, a petite middle-aged woman, smiled brightly. "Of course I did. It was the only way I knew to get you out of your work stupor." Shaking his head with a laugh, the towering man picked up his wife, who stood almost a foot shorter than him, bringing her up to his face to kiss her. "Thank you, Brie." Brie wriggled around in her husband's grasp, her silver-streaked brunette curls bouncing as she laughed. "Let me down, Viky. We need to get ready." Viky continued to kiss his wife for several more minutes before placing her gently back on the ground. "Now we can get ready." Brie laughed, smacking her husband playfully on the chest before going to the tiny closet in their room to pull out his nice suit and her dress.
An hour later, they stood not in their hotel room, but in one of the 5 spherical gardens of South City. The tile garden entrance had been shut, allowing only one entrance for the guests to flow through, the center garden which opened into all of them. The lotus rangoli had been left mostly alone as well as the tile garden, which allowed for quieter conversations and reflection. The other two gardens were dotted with standing tables and benches, as well as several small buffet tables and bars. Waiting staff were preparing the food and drink, waiting for the guests to arrive. The garden where the eternal fire waited to be lit in remembrance of the fallen soldiers and citizens of Amestris was closed, awaiting the lighting ceremony that would take place later in the evening. No decorations were in the gardens, only delicate lanterns to light the way when night fell. Speakers were also placed in hidden spots around the garden, soft music playing from them. The press had been outside, ready to snap pictures of any and all who arrived. The newly elected Chancellor, Hans Ludwig Reinhardt stood heads over everyone in the first garden, off to one side. His hair and beard were neatly trimmed, his glasses resting lightly on his nose. He wore a dark gray suit, with a light blue shirt and navy blue tie. On the lapel over his heart rested a daisy pin. Standing next to him, arm looped through his, was Brigitte, his wife. She wore a dark blue evening gown, accented with a pearl necklace and pearl earrings. She had pulled back her brown curls into a chignon, although a few were escaping and curling around her face. They had passed through the paparazzi and said their greetings to the members of Parliament would had arrived.
It was the people they were now waiting on that made Hans the littlest bit nervous. He had invited not only all of the Amestrian soldiers to attend this, but a great number of civilians as well. He wished to give the appearance of a united Amestris and an "elite-only" party did not show unity. The people had elected him to stay in the position given to him by Parliament, he wished to show his gratitude. Hans would be making his first address to the people and he knew that all the things he had to say were not going to be pleasant. He had a lot to do to fix this country and changes needed to be made. But this was also supposed to be a night to celebrate, not only Amestris but to remember its fallen people. When the spherical gardens had been designed, an eternal flame was placed in a garden along with stones with the names of fallen troops and civilians. Tonight the flame would be lit, the honor being given to Brigadier General Brighton. He had met briefly with her, as well as Lieutenant General Tsukino and Lieutenant General Aeries to discuss some changes already. The meeting had been short, sweet and to the point. He was looking forward to meeting his soldiers and his people and seeing the interactions across the board. It was going to be an interesting night and it would start shortly.

Re: The Fire of Change
Acra had been permitted leave from the hospital today. Though he wished he hadn't been. Dressed in a Prada suit a blue ascot round his neck and sat in a sleek and clean wheelchair. He sat amongst his family with a look that looked less alive then his face during his coma. His faithful servant was at his handles pushing him around as people spoke to his father and oldest brother about what an wonderful event they had help set up. And by help set up they meant, pay for to get in good favour of the chancellor.
He stifled the yawn as he was wheeled over to said Chancellor and his wife. His father was not one to let an opportunity slip. " Chancellor Reinhardt my name is Erik Schiwatas and it in indeed a pleasure to meet you." He shook the mans and. " I'll introduce you to my family. This is my oldest son Erik Junior he is my close apprentice in the family buisnuess." Acra nearly snorted in his chair. Business how about empire? And typical to start with Erik before his mother. God he wish he could drink but he rather not risk a coma... " My wife Rosaline. My second son Doctor Alaric and finally the youngest...Acra... " Acra reached up offering a hand to shake. " Nice to meet you sir...I look foreword to working for you to serve our nation."

Re: The Fire of Change
Slipping swiftly into the room behind the masses of blue-clad Amestrian soldiers, Ayden smiled to himself, flicking up the collar on his jacket, brushing away several doormen who attempted to relieve him of it, hissing like an upset kitten as he did so. He did, however, remove his black cloak, which laid over the top; it was beginning to get heavy, and whilst it worked as a shroud for his weaponry, he was among militants here. As a Major, anything, more or less, went, for him. State Alchemists had... special rules.
Smiling that wicked grin of his, Ayden made a brisk walk - if it could be called that, slaloming in and out of various rather plump wives of militant officials - into, more or less, the centre of the spherical garden. Gazing up at the sky through the translucent glass was entrancing; but after but a moment, Ayden snapped himself out of being enthralled, and took a seat of his own accord, stuffing his hands into his pockets as he silently scanned the room from beneath silky locks of silver hair.
He could see just about everyone. Various generals and other military officials; as well as Nikolaus, his contractor, Jay, his... 'cohort', and Spade, a friend of his from a drinking session a few months ago. Ayden smirked to himself, moving his hands down to his legs. This was not to be violent, sadly enough. His cover had to be maintained.
Alongside that, there were numerous people he seemed not to know; some pale-faced, presumably from their time at Briggs, whilst those that were presumably from East or West City had a slight tan about them. Everyone below Major was grouped together, and they seemed to be reluctant to mingle beyond their cliques. Once Ayden's mind clicked, and realisation hit, it soon became nauseating. This was just like school; a world he'd escaped from years ago, and one he wished never to return from. The memories that had been shot repeatedly and buried within the darkest depths of his mind were suddenly groaning, and their decaying, zombie arms were scratching away at their dirt prisons. This wasn't particularly good.
The state of paralysed catatonia continued for a few seconds, until his nostrils the distinctive aroma of a cheese platter. Oh, Gelemortian cheeses, too! This was exquisite. No expense had been spared at the announcing of Amestris' new chancellor, it seemed; who himself seemed to be a tower of a man, accompanied by an almost unimaginably small, rather beautifully-dressed woman. Ayden guessed she was the dominant one.
With a smirk, a few moments of prowling, and a dive, Ayden successfully managed to use his agility to clutch a handful of cheese - as classy as possible - without being seen, stuffing them into his mouth one after another as his stomach rumbled. The military had paid for the train journey down here, but they hadn't spared any expense on food, which had left the assassin rather hungry.
But it was all worth it. Perhaps he'd catch up with some old friends - or make some new ones. With that, he smiled, and bowed once more as he came into vision of the chancellor once more. "It's an honour, your grace. Major Derocha, State Alchemist, at your service."

Inimeg Ty arrived on the scene with her NEW boss Shula Brighton. Shula so far had not recieved the crap she gave Reila, but oddly enough didn't intimidate Ini as Tataki had. How very odd... Nonetheless, so far the Major had done nothing to get on Shula's bad side, so she was proud of herself. THAT WAS A RECORD. Even Aeries had gotten on her nerves and she almost smacked the crap out of him! But as she pondered those thoughts, she walked through the large space for the party, not really mingling, but not grouping like the stupid lesser soldiers.Making a direct beeline for the food table, Ini almost tripped over someone's foot, having to rely on just her cane, since the high-tech cameras were at the shop for maintenance. But she made it and, with a bit of help from a friendly Private, managed to sample all sorts of food; Esparian bananas, Gelemortian whiskey, Aerugese sushi, and some good old fashioned Amestrian sausages and beer! "Mmm... This is actually an alright party, I guess... Except Tsukino's here... Curse her and her... Her.... Self." Unable to properly glare at Reila, she merely whispered the second part of her statement. And with that, she carried on trying the refreshments, specifically the whiskey.

Re: The Fire of Change
What was even going on here? None of the ingredients that composed Jack Maximillian, AKA Animos, even knew why they were here. It didn't make sense, they hated people. But all they knew was that something big was happening here, and he was supposed to be here to witness it. Why he felt compelled to be here, he knew not. So he wandered about the edges of the party, away from everyone. Examining the guests, he noted that some people looked important; others, not so much. Of course, he didn't care about them. What he targeted IMMEDIATELY was the food. Food was one of two things Animos prized; food and shelter were the staples of his life. So he got to the refreshment bar and grabbed as much cheese and bread as he could grab, and rushed off to his sanctuarial empty space again, to watch the going-on of the party from a safe distance.

Spade Aeries was sober. History was in the works...aside from the transformation of Amestris' government that is. Either way, he didn't care; the government didn't concern him nor the fact that he hadn't had a tongue-full of alcohol in forty-eight hours. Why? Well, because Spade had found something more important than both of those necessities. The Womanizer Mobile roared up in all its forest green fury, screeching to a halt in a front parking spot with his name all over it in flashy letters (not really). And before he even got the door open, cameras and microphones of all sizes were thrust into his face. What the fuck man!? He would have shouted that if he was drunk, but Spade simply let out a frustrated sigh and squeezed between the news castors to the walkway that was thankfully clear. They were going to fucking scratch his paint job. Questions...questions... Ah, being famous was such a bother. And apparently his distressed face was super photo worthy since a shrill of excitement wooed through the crowd at the sight. Really, Spade just wanted to break their faces. One side effect of lack of alcohol in his thirsty frame was the slow degradation of his patience and naturally laid back nature. One more question...go ahead shove that metal thing in my face and ask another one. See what happens.
"Excuse me, General Aeries, sir, what does the future hold for central?"
"The future holds...you in my bed." One down. Blushing fit.
"When do you plan to return to work in Central?" This one was a male.
"When South City runs out of booze." Another down. Hot damn, he was storming off. Was that not a serious enough answer? Let's try this babe...
"What's your New Year's resolution, sir?"
"To get new bed sheets." Wink. Damn, did she just... SHE DID. Spade turned from the scene of her fainting and continued his way to the gate with Jay Furor in tow from shotgun. He flashed his Identification Card while his dog tags clanked ruefully against his flashy red tie. Five-hundred dollar pin stripe suit, check. Shined black dress shoes, check. Keys, check. Invitation, check. Sh--Sh...!!! SHADES!? Fuck. Fuckfuckfuckfuck. His new shades. His new shades he had totally just left at Shu's. GOD DAMMIT HE COULD SEE THEM. They were sitting right there on her counter where he left them so he wouldn't for-fucking-get.. Everything was perfect...except now he felt NAKED. DAMMIT. Spade sighed, trying not to let any of his inner dialogue show on his smug expression. While his bullet-holed arm hung rather limply at his side, his other worked hard to cover for the fact that he was still more than hurting. ...Especially with his sunglasses not in their place on top of his head. His good hand returned to his side from where it had reached and touched NOTHING. Instead, he had nearly messed up his skillfully done-up hair searching for his prized possession. Yeah that shit, a whole can of hair spray. The sun-bleached brown was so blown outward in snazzy curls and slick that it nearly appeared black. He reeked of the most expensive cologne South City had to offer, and of course, Lucky Seven Cigs. Hell yeah, bitches, Spade Aeries was in fucking town!
Jade eyes followed the movements of so many people milling about in the garden and suddenly he was overwhelmed. He handled and dealt away with the paparazzi, but...people--people he was supposed to associate with and know were all there staring at him. He knew everything in one moment--one glance. His heart nearly stopped, his breath hitched and he had to lean on the nearest table to regain control of his own tormented mind. He was taking in too much at once... The lady forty degrees to the right was either married or just divorced for she had a shadow on her ring finger, but no ring. She was talking with white teeth at a tall man with a scar on his right cheek. Terrible patch job: South City war against Aerugo when they lost and retreated. He had dirt under his nails--not a lot, but enough to notice. He worked with plants now. This man was no solider; he was pretending to be one though for this cougar. Two people having a pretend conversation, playing house. Her high heels were brand name, from the new shopping mail no less--her earrings too--her lipstick... Spade turned his head forcefully away, seeing so many people and seeing everything they never wanted anyone to see. It nearly made him fucking dizzy.

Re: The Fire of Change
Hm... Reila sat on a bench and watched as people introduced themselves to Chancellor Reinhardt. She had already met him so...it was rather unnecessary for her to indulge in such pleasantries. Still, she felt rather bored and overly nervous about leaving Briggs a second time. If Drachma attacked, now would be the perfect...precise time. She would not stay long...as she had promised those she left behind. And sitting here was just about driving her mad. The pink-haired general launched herself to her feet--or rather, high heels--and clicked off towards the food table, nearly tripping on her black gown. "...guess... Except Tsukino's here... Curse her and her... Her.... Self." ...W-what? Her name? Someone...didn't sound happy with her...and in Xingese? Golden eyes blinked in only what could be described as completely miffed. But...but that hurt... She spun around, biting her lip and trying not to look as confused as she felt. Oh. OH. Well, that explained it. That right there in all her bitterness was Inimeg. How had she not been removed from the military yet? Reila rolled her eyes and reached for the lamb chops. So good... She nearly drooled...except it would ruin her rouge lips. Looking the part was one thing...kicking people's asses with words or in war was another, and tonight, Reila Tsukino sure as hell had to fit her role.
The lamb chops on her plate became bones and was now sitting on the top of the trashcan. She was bored again and eyed up the soda selections. Hm... cherry coke, 7-up, or root beer? She loved all of them... Tapping her chin with a red painted nail, she contemplated this. Ah, screw it, plain coke was fine. She poured a glass--yes, glass not plastic cup--filled it with ice, and took a gulp. The first sip of soda...was always the best. Settling back down on her bench (yes, her bench), she gazed out at the beautiful gardens that Briggs would never set eyes on in a million years. ...Maybe she should invest in a green house. Oh shit! That was an idea right there. She needed a peaceful place to read her book... Briggs was wonderful, but it was also dreary and uptight at times. Maybe that could ease the minds of her defeated soldiers that were currently choking on their pride and being worn down by the threat of attack at any time! Sledding didn't always help...it was cold. And North City definitely needed some work in development areas. She turned her head and started eyeing up the desert table... If only they had ice cream... D:

Re: The Fire of Change
Arriving with Spade, Brigadier General Jay Furor entered the party, clothed in something DECENT for once! Wearing a lovely red dress, Jay walked closely behind Spade. As his official assistant, which had been her promotion, she was supposed to go places with him more and do stuff. Of course, based on the chain of command, the paperwork he passed on to her was OBVIOUSLY dropped off in Ayden's mailbox, where he either did it, or passed it further along. Anyways, Jay walked onward with Spade, excited to be following the footsteps of her idol- LITERALLY. Not only that, she had actually gotten to RIDE SHOTGUN on the single most sexy car in the WORLD. SITTING NEXT TO SPADE AERIES ON THE WOMANIZERMOBILE WAS THE BEST EXPERIENCE OF HER LIFE. And just why was Spade so idolized by Jay? Quite simple, actually; he was a womanizing drinking machine with a beautiful car and an AMAZING love of EVERYTHING JAY LOVED IN LIFE. Namely booze, stylish flair, and women.
As they walked on, Jay noticed some paparazzos giving Spade a bit of trouble, so she quickly performed her assistant duties by waving them away, so as not to have them hounding her boss. The next things though, she enjoyed immensely; Spade's fans. The crowd around the entry was PACKED with people who wanted to see THE. KING. OF. BOOZE. in the flesh. Watching in awe as he suavely answered all questions, Jay followed along behind him, like the ultimate little fangirl. Of course, UNLIKE every other Spade fangirl, she had no intentions of raping him. Anywho, she carried on behind him, walking in reverance of sorts, until they got to the party-zone. It was then that Jay realized something was horribly wrong...
"Hmm... Hey uh, Spade... I noticed you don't got your shades on. Here, I brought a pair of spares for you, in case of an emergency. You just don't look right without shades. Spade needs shades is basically a LAW, y'know." Retrieving from her little pocketbook a pair of sleek, awesome shades, she handed them to Spade, so that he could keep a good image. Because Spade wasn't Spade if there were no shades for Spade! But even after giving him the shades, something else was irking her nerves...
SOMETHING WAS TERRIBLY OFF. But until Jay figured it out, she would follow Spade around. Hmmm... What was so odd about what she sensed? Ah well, they could figure that out over a nice bottle of booze or something!~

News of the ceremony was THE hot news in Amestris, and all civilians and military were invited to come and meet their new Chancellor. The retired Brigadier General Ulrich Brighton had received his invitation and responded to it; his granddaughter was now Head of South and would be given the honour of lighting the fire in the gardens she herself had designed and set up the initial funding for. Ulrich's son, despite not being military himself and in Resembool, had also decided that he would go for the same reasons. The petite General in question, however, was more than a little apprehensive about the whole shindig. She really was just a glorified secretary; when she needed to make announcements, they were short and to the point. She could interact with the people who worked under her in a friendly manner, but that was different than this party. There would be news reporters for around Amestris and the world. This was important. There would be more people than she knew what to do with. And she wasn't allowed to escape and go read somewhere.
If that wasn't enough to send her little heart racing, she didn't know what was until that afternoon the black car drove up to her loft. Her father and grandfather, hours early. Her father refused to let her go to the affair in her uniform or the fancier black sari that she had. So with a quick kiss goodbye blown to everyone in her house, Shula had been kidnapped hours before the event was set to start and hadn't been heard from since.
People were already pouring into the garden. Shula could have just stared at the sight of so many going into the lit garden at night with the stars over the lake and been satisfied forever by it. And when she saw the news cameras and people from the papers, She wondered if she couldn't just enjoy the party from here in the car. Sensing her discomfort, a large hand with calloused fingers moved to her shoulder and gave a warm squeeze.
"You're not here to talk to them. Just be nice and make your way to the door. Shula looked next to her at Ulrich, his dress uniform outdated but still fitting, the many badges, bars and ribbons decorating his breast, chestnut hair pulled into a low ponytail at his collar. She smiled faintly, trying to swallow being honestly very nervous. Office parties were different than these things, weren't they? She sucked in a deep breath and let it out slowly.
"And please try to duck on the way out otherwise you'll crush your lotus," Phillip chimed in, adjusting the dark blue silk tie as he opened his own door and then his daughter's, helping her out of the towncar. The press seemed more interested in a few other things going in and around, and there was an opening. The other Generals were more well-known even though she'd built quite a reputation for herself here in South. If she could just get to the-- flashbulbs went off. Shula was pulled close to her grandfather, stopping to pose both Brigadier General Brightons together for one photo. With a forceful tug she was pulled and pushed forward, concealed nicely by the two men in her life that she adored most. Her father and grandfather were both taller than her (but who wasn't?). Both men were such contrasts to the other, however; Ulrich a decorated war hero and his last surviving son a tailor. Invitations and IDs were given at the door and they were in. Shu exhaled finally.
The forest-green sari was decorated with tiny silver and red seqins and a few large brass and red flowers embroidered into the sheer fabric. Shula had no jewelry save for a few brass bracelets, a pair of green diamante earrings, and a matching tikka dangling down from her hair onto her forehead, leaving her neck bare. Shula's trademark braids were missing, instead her bangs parted and curled, the top half of her hair pulled into a small bun with the lower half curled, a bright red lotus pinned into her bun. This was honestly the prettiest she'd ever felt and looked in her life, but seeing the multitude of people in the garden Shula felt more unnerved. She, her father and grandfather stopped at where Hans was standing and greeting guests and ohholyshithewasevenbiggerstandingup!!
"Chancellor Reinhardt, it's nice to see you again, Sir. I'd like you to meet my father, Phillip, and my grandfather, Ulrich." Phillip moved to shake Hans' hand; Ulrich saluted, his medals clinking against his coat. Pleasantries exchanged to her new boss, they moved along into the area, Shula wondering if she should pray for one of her friends to find her or to find some plant to blend in with until she was needed.

Re: The Fire of Change
Pests. Crowds that mire like cows and sheep. No mind of their own, no idea of what lay ahead. Like sacrifice for the alter of slaughter as their only purpose. Finding it quite hard to fathom his existence in this meeting, this gathering of military personnel among the civilian conformists. All to congratulate a man whom won a popularity contest. This... disgusted him beyond control, hands shaking from his internal infuriating fire that he could not help but mask most convincingly with a pleasant smile on his features. He hasn't voted for this Chancellor person, but rather for another of the agents. Looks like Chancellor Hans isn't in Ilios's pockets from beyond the grave, which may mean that man is a loose cannon. Such a disgrace! For no Fuhrer President to preside over Amestris, a country of military merit now ruled by a white collar little naive man.
Yet the standing Nikolaus hadn't blended well within the Amestrian blue massed among the crowd, his uniform was that of black riddled with many medals and ribbons, esteeming him as a warmonger whom had participated in many wars. It was a formal occasion after all, and best he look sharp. Semi-concealing his tunic underneath an open black trench coat. A differentiation and designation of his status as a man from Security. Only nodding at whichever rich patron that comes to suck up to him as to earn "favors" from someone that rules over that department. Smiling and returning sweet condolences and honeyed nothings to their ears exactly as they want to hear it. All to let them leave him alone, they were all little shits anyways, and had his self-control been a tad lesser, they would have been nothing but beef stroganof pasted across the gathering.
Yet, he saw Ayden, nodding towards him. Finally, someone that softens the angered mood here. A person so willing to get his hands dirty. Seems like the fact Ballzini wasn't here didn't exactly go noticed by the many fickle crowds. They haven't gotten the news of one of the most powerful crime lords being killed off which meant they are in their comfort zones. Good, good, Derocha has done his job quite well, his future seems bright within the military.
Still, those fool-people didn't know of the threat of Aerugese spies. There was a leak in South City, and perhaps odds are, an Aerugese assassin was among the people. STUPIDEST idea ever was to invite civilians over and make it free access absolutely, all in the name of unity. A cheap ploy, all it does is grant assassins an even higher chance of striking with prejudice. There are those suicidal enough to try their hand in eliminating Amestris's "leader" once and for all. Hence the Colonel's disposition towards maintaining a count of his own personal entourage surrounding the place, keeping a surveillance and watching for the crowd, any suspicious movements.
But his particular predicament of having to WATCH and deal with so many security details was eased in the presence of some notable figures. That being Spade accompanied by Jay, whom was a mighty fine detective, and among the other, a face he recognized mostly in frames and photos -- Ulrich Brighton and Philip. But deceived of the third one's identity of Shula. Her ravishing appearance was alien to the Colonel, it was as if putting that Ishvallan he knew from the plainest and most humble of appearance to become an entirely different person in rich make up and well adorned clothes. Only recognizing her in reasoning that given she was with those two other Brighton's, and this WAS South, her jurisdiction, that it was her no doubt. Does she already know of the Aerugese spies in South? He doesn't know, best slip this tad little bitty detail of a douche to her later on. Single them out later on.
Stepping along and inserting into the ever so shifting crowd to finally slip in front of Ulrich and Philip, saluting the both of them with a smile on his face. A charming expression on an otherwise not so pleasant person.
"Well well, what have we here? If it isn't the honorable Ulrich, and his prestigious son, Philip." He greets the two in a respectable tone worth their earned stations, nodding towards them yet his wording slowed slightly when he looked at the tailor, "Pleased to meet the both of you, Colonel Stuka of Central Security at your service." He shifted his gaze to Shula, whom the three men towered over, a look as if an elephant just noticed a mouse beneath its feet, "Decided to look pretty for a change, eh Miss Brighton? That look suits you quite well."

Murazar was for once dressed in his full military attire, his chest practically gleamed off medals and ribbons. His positions and rank made clear, he even had a cord and a cape of the lord captain-commander hung lightly over his shoulders. He held himself high, shoulders back and up. He presented confidence and authority at its essence. Murazar had a small earpiece in his ear that was nearly unable to be seen. The man on the other end was in a van a few streets off watching and helping to coordinate with Nikolous's security detail. It had taken him a bit of time to get them integrated at least for this one time event.
As much as he really didn't like this hans and how he had achieved his position. Which was only due to promises and popularity amongst the people. The poor fool had no idea of the military or any of its workings. He couldn't trust this man to not ruin this country. Perhaps this man would do alright bringing the economy back up to par, but in a war? No, he would fail.
Murazar noticed that the majority of the more powerful and high ranking folk here actually knew him either in person or as a literal friend. He gave everyone a glance before speaking softly for the almost invisible earpiece,"Nothing of note." Afterwards he moved on as he saw not only the brighton family, but some of his friends as well."[/color]
He looked over at shula and the others that had just shaken this mans hand. He smiled over this friends and spoke in a calm and friendly tone."Its good to see you Shula.” He nodded his head to them both in light respect as he held his hand out to Hans and looked him dead in the eye as one powerful man to another. He said strongly and with calm and lethally accurate authority.” A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Sir. I am Major General Murazar Dauthi, Reilas Second-in-command. Head of the North and Intelligence. A pleasure to meet you, Sir.”
He turned back to Shula along with her respective family and held his hand out to shake their hands as well after Hans. ” A pleasure to meet you all.” He smiled to them, he did not smile towards Hans. He made it clear to the him that unless Hans proved himself a strong, honest, and intelligent man. He would not yet fully respect him.

And here they came in droves. People upon people. If Hans wasn't used to this sort of thing, he would feel immensely uncomfortable. He shook hands and smiled with all that came through the receiving line of sorts, making polite conversation with each person. Brigitte stood at his side, bringing her light into every conversation she had. Everything seemed to be going smoothly thus far...
“Chancellor Reinhardt, my name is Erik Schiwatas and it is indeed a pleasure to meet you. I'll introduce you to my family. This is my oldest son, Erik Junior, he is my close apprentice in the family business. My wife Rosaline. My second son, Doctor Alaric and finally the youngest... Acra...”
“Nice to meet you sir... I look forward to working for you to serve our nation.”
Ah. The Schiwatas family. Hans could barely restrain from curling his lip in distaste. The head of the Schiwatas Corporation was practically fawning over him. Introducing his heir to his empire before his lovely wife. Hans snorted in his head. The two Eriks were disgusting. Rosaline was quiet, demure by order of her husband, no less. He noticed Brigitte immediately tugging at Rosaline, taking her off to one side for some feminine conversation. Hans smiled politely, shaking hands with all of the Schiwatas men, starting with the father. “A pleasure, sir. How kind of you to make some a charitable donation as to fund this party. I hope I can continue to see such charity continue in the rebuilding of our country.” He made similar niceties with the young doctor before turning his full attention to the young man in the wheelchair. He had noticed how he had barely mentioned his younger sons and Hans felt that is was about time that Erik Schiwatas realized their importance. He shook Acra's hand, smiling down at him. “Lt. Colonel Schiwatas, I have been looking forward to meeting you as well. You are a very brave man. I've read your file. I would like to talk more with you later, but for now, please enjoy yourself.”
The Schiwatas family moved on and Hans continued to greet down the line, his eyes occasionally roaming the room. There were a lot of faces and a lot of names. He wasn't very good with remembering all of them, but doing a bit of review before the party was helping.
“It's an honour, your grace. Major Derocha, State Alchemist, at your service.”
Ah. Major Ayden Derocha. Now, HIS was an interesting file. Hans reached out his hand to shake Ayden's smiling faintly. “A bow and 'your grace' are a little over the top, I think, Major Derocha. But it is a pleasure to meet you. I noticed the cheese selection is to your liking?” Hans chuckled.
After Major Derocha moved on, Hans paused a moment to see the new surge of people coming in. Two of his three headquarter generals had arrived, one with a bit more flair than the other. Some faces he recognized from his review form, others he knew he would learn over time. He needed to integrate himself into the military circle, to be kept up to date on all of the doings of Amestris' armed forces. This was a tough job he was placed in, but he felt more than ready. He noticed a petite white-haired woman moving towards him and smiled. Brigadier General Brighton had been a pleasant surprise. Still unsure at her new lofty position, but Hans could clearly see her potential. More of her caliber were needed around here.
“Chancellor Reinhardt, it's nice to see you again, Sir. I'd like you to meet my father, Phillip, and my grandfather, Ulrich.”
Hans smiled down at Shula, shaking her father's hand and returning Ulrich's military salute. “Miss Brighton, good to see you as well. And it's pleasure to meet you, Phillip. And Brigadier General Brighton, sir. It is an honor. My father served under you at some point, I believe. Thank you both very much for coming. You should be very proud. Shula is a great asset to this military.”
He was about ready to turn to the next guest when another man stepped into view. It took Hans a moment to recognize him, as the old picture in the file, the man had a very different hairstyle. His voice was cool, his face not serious or respectful, but rather disdainful. Hans felt his own smile fading, keeping his face calm as he shook the man's hand.
“A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Sir. I am Major General Murazar Dauthi, Reila's second-in-command. Head of the North and Intelligence. A pleasure to meet you, Sir.”
Hans couldn't resist the gliimmer in his eye as he continued to shake the man's hand firmly. He let his hand drop down at his side again, responding in a cool tone of voice that screamed of his authority. “How nice to meet you, Major General Dauthi. However, I think you may want to reattempt your introduction. As Briggs now controls all of North, I believe Lieutenant General Tsukino has the title of Head of North. Nor are you her second-in-command, as she did not see fit to mention you as such in our previous meeting. Perhaps, as Head of Intelligence, you would have figured that out?” He felt a hand come smacking down on his lower back and glanced down at his wife, who was looking down at him in alarm. He merely raised an eyebrow at her before returning his gaze to Murazar. Clearly the man did not respect him and at this point, Hans was in no mood for a bully. Especially a bully who was shorter than him. Hah.

Re: The Fire of Change
Slipping away from the mass of people in line to see the Chancellor after his brief, introduction, Ayden hummed idly, hands in his pockets as he gently swayed from side to side, isolating people throughout the room; one of which was a fiery-looking young red-haired woman, who seemingly carried an aura of high command about her... ooh, even her presence was pushing people away! She sat on a bench, alone, looking rather ticked off that the festivity of the event had ruined what plans she must have had for the night. Licking his lips and slapping his cheeks out of view, the assassin tried his absolute best to make himself as appealing to her as possible, and walked back into what he presumed was her plane of vision.
He tried to make his journey over there look as coincidental as possible; hands in his pocket, idly whistling into the air, the man drifted from place to place, slaloming once more in and out of various political figures he'd never seen before, sliding further towards the wall of the sphere as he neared the girl's location. If he was going to be here for tonight, he may as well enjoy himself, right? Playing with someone - even as 'dangerous' as this woman appeared - was surely one way to help speed up the positively dreary night's events.
With that in mind, he closed the gap, and, as discreetly as possible, dropped himself down upon the bench, a foot or two away from her, and smiled, looking off towards the buffet table as he crossed his legs, sighing in what appeared to be absolute disbelief. "This has turned into a real shambles..." With that near-subsonic muttering, Ayden seemingly snapped into reality, and 'noticed' Reila. With a grin, he offered his hand, to shake, and smiled, trying to look as awkward as possible. "Oh, sorry! Didn't see you there, I was off in a world of my own..." Another grin, with deeper, darker, hidden intentions, and Ayden turned to look at the congregation again. Disgusting.
"I despise big gatherings like these; especially fuelled by such stupid reasons. I'd much rather be off alone," He figured that was the best angle to take. She, from a distance, had looked pretty much like she didn't want to be here at all, and was taking advantage of the free food, that being it. Ah well; he'd played his hand. Now all that was left to do was wait; and see if he'd have her engaged with the conversation or not.

Re: The Fire of Change
“A pleasure, sir. How kind of you to make some a charitable donation as to fund this party. I hope I can continue to see such charity continue in the rebuilding of our country.” Acra could almost sigh out loud as he watched the rest of the party sat stiff backed in his chair. He could tell if he was to be stuck at his families side all night he would suffer total boredom.
He watched as Chancellor Reinhardt's wife walked away with his mother. He smiled softly glad she would get some enjoyment from the party. He felt bad as for the past few months...she had be doing nothing but worry for him. He could tell from her sunken face, the loss of weight and the way her eyes had lost some of that light. He knew the damage was one that he doubted would fix. And it was his fault. Shula and Alaric had suffered too. He still had that slight almost unnoticeable bruise on his lip from Alaric's anger and tears.
His thoughts were broken by Chancellor Reinhardt's attention turning to him. “Lt. Colonel Schiwatas, I have been looking forward to meeting you as well. You are a very brave man. I've read your file. I would like to talk more with you later, but for now, please enjoy yourself.” He blinked but shook the mans hand back loosely at first. The new leader of south wanted to speak to him. He gave a polite smile and gripped his hand back trying not to smirk at the look of disgust and anger on his eldest's brothers face. "Of course sir...I look forward to it." With that the rest of the group moved on and Acra wondered how long it would take till someone could save him from his family.
Acra couldn’t help but stare as Shula walked over. “I’d pick up your jaw from your lap little brother….” Whispered his brother as he was pushed foreword by Wallace to greet her. Gently taking her hand he kissed it with the charm of a prince. If only he could do it properly but still his leg muscles where to weak. “ You look lovely….No…more then lovely…You look beautiful…” He smiled softly releasing her hand to reach into his pocket to get a slip of paper. His brows furrowed at first as he read it silently before reading it out to her. “Please tell me your rescuing me?” His pronunciation was slightly off but he was learning. Clearly writing his rescue plea into a language his family wouldn’t know had be a clever plan. Thank you Wallace.
He looked up when he heard a familiar voice. Looking up he had to blink a few times. Before it clicked in his head who the man was. “ Mr Dauthai…What a pleasure to see you. ” He reached up from the chair to shake Mura’s hand. “ It’s been a long time.” It was true it had been quite some time since he had seen anyone but even longer for Mura. “I hope all is going well..” His eyes scanned over the new haircut amongst other things.

Re: The Fire of Change
OH, BY ZEUS! Csilla groaned to herself as she flitted through the paparazzi and press to enter the gardens. She had half a mind to take the light from those flashing little bulbs and put it somewhere else. This was a big event and Csilla understood that, but sheesh... this was ridiculous. Csilla was excited though. Her time in South City had been extremely eventful thus far and this was just icing on the cake. She was nervous to meet the new Chancellor of Amestris but also excited. She had read the article in Time magazine with avid interest, having even shed a tear reading about the loss of his daughter. Now she would get to see the man live and make her own personal assessment. But first...
Oh... wow. Csilla stood just inside the first sphere, taking a slow breath in and out. Shula had done a beautiful job. Gaia herself would be honored with the lovely thought put into this design of nature. And Csilla felt as if she could blend in with the nature around her. Phillip had designed her a beautiful dress for the evening and Csilla was still processing the delicate beauty. She had her hair up in a high bun, a few strands hanging down. A pale yellow choker, dotted with rhinestones encircled her neck. Her mermaid dress was cut with a sweetheart neckline and a low back, but it was the colors she loved the most. The dress began with pale yellow like the choker, fading into darker shades of yellow down the dress, like the bottom of the skirt flared in the orange of a sunset. The skirt was layered in sheer fabric, all of the delicate colors of the dress peeking through. She was in love with the dress; she had even agreed to wear bronze heels instead of boots in it.
Recovering from the beauty of the sphere, she moved forward to meet the Chancellor. And it seemed that he had a small gathering around him. She recognized Shula and Phillip, taking a stab that the older man was another relation of Shula's. The other man there she did not recognize, but he did not look particularly nice. Moving forward, she lightly saluted Hans, before shaking his hand. “Major Angelis, Chancellor Reinhardt. Head of Defense at Central HQ. It really is an honor. I can't wait to see the great things you are going to do.” Hans smiled down at Csilla and she felt so proud of herself. They exchanged a few pleasantries, although Hans appeared a little distracted. But who could blame him? It was a big deal, having such an important position. Csilla also took a moment to meet Brigitte, Hans' wife. She then moved to join the Brighton family quickly hugging Phillip. “Thank you so much, Phillip!” She then grabbed Shula's arm, tucking it into her own. “How are you, my friend?” She looked at Acra in his wheelchair and smiled brightly. "Acra! You look pretty good for having come back from a nap!"

Re: The Fire of Change
Murazar continued to shake the mans hand as he returned the same kind of face and tone, but one that also bespoke authority and contemptful humor. Perhaps, as Head of Intelligence, you would have figured that out?"This man was only controlled on the exterior of what he showed people, internally he'd lash out in private. Even against one such as Murazar, although apparently the man had perhaps read his old files and was relying on them as such and his talk from Reila.
Murazar cracked a smile for a second and responded slightly more lighthearted than was usual for him, his calmness and controll was still there. His scorn and contempt faded however completely as if it was all an act. His voice belied that calm and general feeling of a small prank well-played. "Well then I guess you already did some light reading on me, however old and incomplete it is." He literally seemed pleased about how the other heads of intelligence didn't know as much as there was apparently. He continued without stopping,"Its good to have a man who is both well-informed and undeterred, I believe at the very least your a right step in the direction of this country." He paused for a second and leaned in slightly before whispering.
"A word of caution, try to be less confrontational about situations like that. Your showing your cards otherwise. Just consider it from an experienced veteren, Chancellor Reinhardt." Murazar backed off to his normal standing for a moment and looked over to Acra and crouched while holding his hand out to him. He smiled, a true one that seemed little different than the one he gave to Hans. This one was for friends,"Apologys for not noticing you Acra, I thought you were still in the hospital for some reason. I'm glad your at least getting fresh air and getting better, if you need anything. Dont hesistate to call me directly. Otherwise, i'm doing fine as I am. Same old Mercenary me, had to change my hair because someone almost killed me a little while ago. Silver hair picks you out of a crowd fast."
He mean't that too, Acra was a friend despite their difference and the time gap they hadn't seen each other. He looked back over to Hans and an eye on Shula. It was apparent that multi-tasking several peoples attentions appropriately were not difficult, while apparently pretending to be something he was not to the Chancellor, and he seemed to know almost everyone personally in the building. He had not met Csilla however and was letting her greet Acra now.
He however had obviously shown the Chancellor who he hoped was smart enough to realize that Murazar had walked up and greeted him in that manner for a set few specific reasons and had already assessed him and an apparent weakness. Which mean't to not only be careful around him, but also take what he said as a warning. Just because this was a small test and apparently Hans had failed, dont take it seriously, dont offend a man who's automatically in a powerful slated positions and rank in and out of the Amestrian military, and finally be more careful in the future. If Hans just let his emotions take him over to become confrontational in public, to one of his own, that was also powerful. Any pathetic spy could figure out how to dredge up an entire personalitys profile on Hans that was accurate. Murazar's however, would always remain an oddity. He seemed malleable to every situation, but the core of him was calm and control. He however seemed to easily let emotions take over and guide them where necessary. A opposite of Hans.
He also added towards Hans almost as an afterthought, as if it wasn't important at all."I am quite aware of my position by the way, although what a man does and what he's called can be misleading, Chancellor." He seemed to be rather non-chalant about the intended barbed slight Hans had thrown his way. To Murazar it was just something he could hold onto and remember to manipulate in the future. After all with future observation and ellicitation almost anyone was predictable. Almost.

Re: The Fire of Change
South City. It had been quite some time since he had been here last; almost a year, in fact. Over a year? He wasn't sure, though he had no real intention of remembering. Looking out the car window and over the lake that spanned the outer edges of the city, he quite honestly had to say that it was different to how he had once known it. Softly biting his bottom lip, the redhead tapped fingers on his lap. He had only heard rumors of this new Chancellor of Amestris, having been pretty... out of it. Chuckling internally, the man looked over at his driver, watching him for any reactions to where they were going. It was difficult to discern their current placing. In fact, all he had been given was a location: "Five Sphere Garden". Since his last visit to South City, there had been a few (understatement) changes to the surroundings, so he was rather lost. Closing red eyes briefly, he could only give a soft sigh. A black suit was adorning his body--but one that was slightly unusual, given his taste and surroundings. Made of a material slightly softer than cotton, the man felt himself shifting uncomfortably as his bare flesh came across it. This was a new feeling--like wearing satin boxers without underwear--so he had to get used to it before he got there. There was most certainly no need to make an utter ass of himself, especially not in public.
The vehicle pulled to a silent stop, just outside of this "Five Sphere Garden". Turning his head to look out the window, he had to simply muse as to the intrigue that this place had already placed upon his mind. A door opened, and Daigoro slowly stepped out of the car, adjusted his own clothing, and chuckled. "A house full of people is a house full of different points of view." It was time to see how these points of view differed from the norm, or at least from the widely accepted. Quiet musings accompanied his thoughts, and the eerily calm redhead - the man who's hair shone out from the rest - slowly walked into the meeting place, amid chattering voices and faces that were both familiar and unusual to him. Tonight, he was Lieutenant Colonel Ito by nothing but name. People were all around him--something he tended to avoid due to... shyness issues. Well, no, that was the wrong statement to make. He wasn't shy, just quiet when everyone else was talking. It was a politeness thing, see. Placing a hand onto a fence, he started to look around for anyone that may or may not seem much the same or familiar to him. "Chancellor Reinhardt." Hmm. "Chancellor Reinhardt." Hmmmm. "Chancellor Reinhardt." Okay, he was certain now. It was coming from that direction--his head moved slowly to focus, and the man slipped a pair of glasses out of his pocket. He didn't need glasses, per se. However, it had its uses when one needed to focus on something in the distance. Damnable short-sightedness.
And there was one man, standing tall above the crowd; Daigoro assumed six foot five, at least. Not knowing who he was, the man slowly started to make his way through the crowd. If anyone would be able to pick Chancellor Reinhardt out from the crowd, it'd certainly have to be someone with the height to us--even at 5'11, Dai was still short enough to not be able to see. Strange, though. The people seemed to be crowding around this man, paying him respect. Having never seen any actual photos of the person, the glasses-clad Alchemist tapped the side of his head for a second, thinking this over. Well, if this party of people was to greet the Chancellor and that man was being greeted by everyone, then was that man Chancellor Reinhardt? He must've been! A fist was slapped down into Dai's outstretched palm. He was a GENIUS! Well, not really--but you get what I mean. Chuckling internally, the redheaded man slowly moved through the crowds that surrounded this large man now. Of course, Reila was sitting over there in the distance. He'd had to do a couple of things in South City first and she'd had to go ahead early, so they'd been split up. Well, that was alright. He was certain they'd find each other again. Eventually.
"A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Sir. I am Major General Murazar Dauthi, Reilas Second-in-command. Head of the North and Intelligence. A pleasure to meet you, Sir." He'd only just caught that, and it almost made him burst into laughter. Well, he now knew that the largest man in their presence was the Chancellor. Here was Murazar, trying to grease him up! Ahh, the follies of maniacs hmm? “How nice to meet you, Major General Dauthi. However, I think you may want to reattempt your introduction. As Briggs now controls all of North, I believe Lieutenant General Tsukino has the title of Head of North. Nor are you her second-in-command, as she did not see fit to mention you as such in our previous meeting. Perhaps, as Head of Intelligence, you would have figured that out?” Hah. Ahaha. Ahahahahaha. Guess who just got shut down? The man chuckled softly yet remained professional-looking with a soft, confident smirk on his face. "Well then I guess you already did some light reading on me, however old and incomplete it is. Its good to have a man who is both well-informed and undeterred, I believe at the very least your a right step in the direction of this country." Tch. Pity. "I am quite aware of my position by the way, although what a man does and what he's called can be misleading, Chancellor." After a few seconds, Murazar had almost placed in an afterthought? Strange. Nevertheless, he would not react to that. At least, he wouldn't react in the conventional sense of it. Finally worming his way out of the crowd (much to the contempt of a couple of them--Daigoro gave a quiet 'sorry' and an apologetic smile) he stepped before the Chancellor himself. A light bow, and he smiled softly.
"Tena koe (hello), sir." He chuckled lightly, and raised his body back into a standing position, quietly looking at Hans and smiling. "Although I'm sure there's no need for introduction," That first statement--how it was taken would be a good decider for this man's personality. Daigoro had not intended for it to sound arrogant, but purposefully hid a tinge of it in there. His real reasoning for that sentence was simple--Hans seemed like someone who'd done his homework. "I'm Daigoro. Lieutenant Colonel Daigoro Ito. Head of Arms Research and Development of Fort Briggs, with little else to my name." He chuckled, reaching up to his face and slipping the glasses off; the range had no need for glasses that made far sight easier on the eyes. "I am humbled to be in your presence; as long as my mind hasn't failed me. I could very well be talking to the wrong man, as I have done before." He laughed nonchalantly--telling the truth was the simplest thing he could do; it would stop him from getting overly nervous and dropping to a stutter. He had difficulty meeting new people, and the fact that this man was supposed to be his total superior made it much harder on him. Nono, keep composure, Dai...

Re: The Fire of Change
Prologue: A matter of choice.
The gatekeeper, the overlooked badasses in this living world. You want to pass a message, befriend the gatekeeper. You want to send in your CV on top of others, Befriend the gatekeeper. You want someone to send a good word about you, Befriend the gatekeeper and if you want to know who are inside and how do they look like...Befriend the gatekeeper.
Lucky she, the gatekeepers are just militants like her, just some nobodies in a world full of bodies - living ones I assure you - and on a side some packs of cigarettes were distributed undisturbed by the likes of journalists and paparazzi, lit and smoke blown. She spoke, shared jokes and laughed with them. However in the same time she knew some info. Who were inside other than the chancellor supreme ? How they looked like ? How they were dressed ? the order of their entrance ? If she is going in, she is going in ready with her homework done. And so she left her USP elite, blutsauger and time magazine issue of November behind with her new made gatekeeper friends.
In her military suit that she is proud of, she found her way in with her high heels giving different *thuds* through the different set of grounds varying from porcelain and rocky garden tiles to the nicely trimmed grass of that destined garden where the Chancellor waited his guests.
Why a lowly ranked militant of that title of lieutenant doing here ? And why the high ranked officials doing here ? If they have the time to be here to offer their congratulations then by all means the lieutenant too has all the time in the world to be there since she doesn't hold the responsibilities of those above her. But, actually I didn't answer the question. Why is she here ?
Opportunity.
She couldn't miss the opportunity. She needed to be here for reasons of her own. This place is the assembly of elite of the elite. And she needed to make a decision and for that reason she was here.
But first things first. She needed to congratulate the chancellor supreme and introduce herself for she is going to be one of those knights of that round table that served and still serves Amestris in the future and I assure you again, future is too close...future is too near.
And she waited for the young man in black in front of her to finish his conversation with the destined one she is going to meet. Yes, he is the lieutenant colonel Daigoro Ito of fort briggs. She was quite surprised really, She never expected herself to be taller than the read head. She expected a monster of some sort since He belongs to fort briggs. Those guys in that fort are known for that motto of theirs 'survival of the fittest' she wonders if they ate stones in everyday breakfast ?
When her turn comes and soon it shall be. She will step forwards and will offer the man with that great responsibility in his hands a firm handshake. Her words will come out clear and natural, she will make sure she is articulate. She will speak neither quickly nor slowly not threatened by that human mountain standing before her.
Congratulations Chancellor, I am sergeant Angelika Arnwald at your service. May you serve the fatherland well. She said those words as her amber eyes maintained contact with his. Then she would step back, salute and be on her way. She didn't want to waste any more of his time nor that of hers.
Now what ? Well, she would grab a cup of fresh orange juice and plate of sushi. Take a small walk on the sides of the garden, observing her surroundings and the others within the domain of 'surroundings' However there is something that startled her and she was not the woman to get startled - not easily - but not at all.
A name between all the others in this festive gathering she heard. A name in a certain days she feared and prayed not to see. He was here...he is still here.
She satiated her lust for the fresh drink and her longing for the oriental cuisine and eventually nothing was left except a plastic dish and a cup who found themselves in their final destination..a nearby trashcan.
She kept walking for there is a decision to make while keeping an eye on 'surroundings'. she knew that there are three choices to her are presented, from the three, one shall be selected.
It is time and time is her ally...

Re: The Fire of Change
"This has turned into a real shambles..." A man said from beside her. Reila had just been about to get up to tackle the fail of a dessert table, but froze, leg muscles still tense. Golden eyes darted to the side, focusing nonchalantly on the strange silver-haired man that somehow reminded her of Mura. "Oh, sorry! Didn't see you there, I was off in a world of my own..." Nope, too awkward. Mura was way more stoic. She shook his hand, hard, sensing something that wasn't right. She was on edge, her eyes growing sharp and her expression unwelcoming. Bullshit. He was bullshitting. This was a carefully plotted out meeting. She would have fallen for it if she wasn't paying attention, but she was so damn bored that there really wasn't anything else for her to focus on. Hm...well, alright then. She could play along too, the only difference being that she wasn't acting; she was simply being herself.
Ignoring his more recent tellings, she settled back onto the bench, masking her readiness by crossing her legs elegantly. Reila got her hand back and placed it in the two-foot space on the bench between them. "Shambles, you say?" Compared to the rest of the country, where they were sitting was an oasis in the middle of the shambles. If anything, this was paradise to most Amestrian people. She took a deep breath and let a smile filter onto her face. "If you would much rather be off alone, then why are you talking to me?" Her stare intensified and she stood up, brushing off her dress as if he had dirtied her hand with his own. "If pulling a country out of despair is considered stupid to you, then I don't see why you came here to begin with. Don't worry, I'll excuse myself first." With an air of authority, she turned on her high heels and bee-lined for the dessert table. She had decided: cheese cake would be the main course.
Scooping up a plate of the delicious cake, she remembered to grab a fork. That was when she sensed Dai's presence and turned around. He was with the Chancellor. She smiled to herself, already knowing that he would do well to make a good impression for not only Briggs' sake, but her own. Taking a fork full into her mouth, she could only feel overjoyed that this moment was actually happening. Could Amestris finally see peace while still maintaining their militaristic values? She swallowed, relishing in the taste as well as the hope that maybe everyone could finally...be happy.

Re: The Fire of Change
Full didn't begin to describe the garden. More like packed, like a can of breakfast kippers. There was a breezing line of people greeting their new Chancellor nad host that emptied out into the rest of the sphere. There were tables bedecked with food and waitstaff carrying things and everyone looked so pretty and- Shula's mind was buzzing, trying to take in too much at once making her a little dizzy. But it was a beautiful sight, truly. Shula'd never seen this many people dressed so nicely all at once... Come to think of it, this was the first formal occasion she'd ever been to. When she was stationed at South before, she'd heard of the parties and events for the officers, but her rank was nowhere near that at the time, and in Central the biggest event she'd been to was that damned Festival from Hell. So this was something totally new. It was beautiful. There was a warmth in her chest, feeling like one of her more private dreams had been realized, a certain pride to have everyone there in her gardens and enjoying themselves.
Shula looked up to Hans as he saluted back to Ulrich and shook Phillip's hand, loving that there was no hesitation to switch from the proud warhorse to the humble tailor. Hans was a man of the people, not just the politicians or the rich. And that... made Shula incredibly happy. It meant things were really changing. “Miss Brighton, good to see you as well. And it's pleasure to meet you, Phillip. And Brigadier General Brighton, sir. It is an honor. My father served under you at some point, I believe. Thank you both very much for coming. You should be very proud. Shula is a great asset to this military.” Shula's eyes shot doward as her cheeks flared pink, the quiet thank you that passed her lips muted entirely by the sounds of other people around them. Shu began to walk aside to continue into the party when someone from behind made their way to in front of Hans.
She looked up to see Mura, for once not wearing the two capes and instead wearing his uniform and all the honours given to him over time. "It's nice to see you, too, Fox." Shula blinked as she felt Ulrich's hand protectively pulling his granddaughter closer to him, his hand giving her shoulder a firm squeeze. Shula tried to move aside so that other people could get around them easily as Mura, erm, "talked" to Hans, but found that her immediate escape was blocked as an officer all in black walked to her and her family in greetings. Mr. Stuka's smile was light and pleasant, and Shula beamed, happy to see him.
"Well well, what have we here? If it isn't the honorable Ulrich, and his prestigious son, Philip. Pleased to meet the both of you, Colonel Stuka of Central Security at your service. Decided to look pretty for a change, eh Miss Brighton? That look suits you quite well." It was SO damn strange to have people know who your family was before you introduced them, no matter how often it happened. Mr. Stuka greeted her family as she shifted, somewhat uncomfortably. Pretty... for a change. I never really do put much effort into my looks... just make sure I'm clean and groomed before I leave for work.
"Thank you, Mr. Stuka. It's nice to see you here, too... I'm glad I'll have a few friends around later, that's got me pretty nerv-" Shula's ears pricked at an awkward moment beside her. Fox was nearly having a pissing match with the new Chancellor, and the Chancellor didn't seem to appreciate it. Shula stepped away a bit more, trying to put a little distance from what she was overhearing. She'd met with Hans before, with Spade and Reila. He's a good man, to be sure, but given his to-the-point nature and directness (something she could certainly appreciate, given how Amestrian language goes in circles), it was kind of an unspoken thing of not to piss him off too much. And while she was certain it wouldn't become a massive public scene, she really didn't want to overhear her friend being fired because he didn't know when to stop.
Chancing a few more steps away from the growing throng, Shula took a breath and a small swallow. Phillip looked all around, smiling as he bent down, kissing the top of her hair. Shula, this really does look amazing. She leaned back against her father's chest, closing her eyes a moment to shut out how many people were there.
"Thank you, Papa," Shula replied quietly. It was like the advice Ulrich had given her when she moved to Central. Catch your breath where you can, but you have to keep up. She didn't immediately notice that Acra was being wheeled up to her until she heard Alaric's voice. Eyes opened, and Shula looked at Acra and his family, smiling warmly at them and Wallace. She'd met them all before save for Acra's father and eldest brother, but Acra had mentioned before how the man felt about less than pure Amestrians, other cultures and Ishvallans. His loss. Shula's hand was lifted and gently kissed, the same sweet way it had been kissed when they first met. She couldn't help but smile.
"You look lovely….No…more then lovely…You look beautiful…” From pretty for a change to beautiful. That was an interesting change of gears considering her looks hadn't changed in a few minutes between one person and the next. “Please tell me your rescuing me?” Shula laughed lightly.
"You look nice too, Acra. And your accent is improving! And I can just as soon as I-"
"Thank you so much, Phillip!" Shula turned around to see her father being squeezed by Csilla, and Csilla looked amazing. The tellow and orange mermaid dress made her best friend look like a tiger lily walking among the crowds, standing out in a bunch of people all dressed in dark colours. The tailor returned the hug, then stepped back to admire his work.
"You are SO welcome! You have to come to Resembool mid spring so I can borrow you for my summer line. Letcha keep whatever you wear~" Ulrich refrained from rolling his eyes at his son's teasing the young girl, putting his personal feelings regarding Phillip's choices aside for now. This wasn't the place or time. Shula's arm was taken by Csilla, and Shula hugged herself against Csi's arm for a moment.
"I'm awesome! I'm really excited about this." Shula beamed, her smile covering her half-lie. She was getting better at this. She let go of Csilla's arm, leaning down to hug around Acra's shoulders for a long moment, her lotus oil perfume wafting lightly from her as she moved. She stood up again, then gave a quick hug to Wallace and a wave to Alaric. Shula leaned down again, whispering into Acra's ear. "See about Wallace pushing you around to mingle and then mingle toward the Zen garden. I just need to check in and see when the lighting ceremony starts." Shula pulled away, smiling and looking as Mura began to catch up with Acra. She pressed her palms together, raised them to her face and nodded her head forward to her friends. "If you'll all excuse me for a few miunutes?"
She backed away a step, then turned to move through the people. Oh dear god she needed to BREATHE and not be crowded by everyone all at once. Things seemed to be going well at least, but she needed to check in with Spade to see if he knew when that part of the ceremony was, if it was before or after the speech they all knew was coming. Shula wondered if she couldn't just go hide in the storage closet for a while and escape the mess. It was pretty but it was... so.. MUCH all at once. Walking through, she spotted the tables. Most of them were empty save for a few people munching while others just stood around chatting about nothing. But there was someone at that table, his eyes down and looking away from everyone. Spade couldn't have been hung over, he didn't drink last night.
Shula stepped up behind him quietly, gently putting her hands on Spade's shoulders. "Come here often?" she asked, teasing lightly as she used one of the lines she'd heard Spade use so often on other people. She moved around to stand beside where he sat. "You okay Spade?"

Re: The Fire of Change
Jay was a fit of sparkly fangirlieness beside him--he saw it. The way she looked at his car--the way she threw him onto a pedestal for worship. Yeah, he got that. Especially now, he could nearly see the hunger in her eyes. But no, it wasn't a hunger for him necessary, but for his reputation. Normally, that would piss him off, but he wasn't looking for a good time with her in bed. She worked under him for christ's sake. Not to mention that he was way too sober for that shit. It made him irritated at the mere thought that in the past, he'd normally just go for it. Not anymore. There was something else...something else. And it was making him stop drinking--it was making him like...like this. Suddenly, he felt a light go off twenty degrees to his left. He wanted to turn to see exactly what the fuck Jay was thinking, when her voice infiltrated his thoughts with more than an answer. "Hmm... Hey uh, Spade... I noticed you don't got your shades on. Here, I brought a pair of spares for you, in case of an emergency. You just don't look right without shades. Spade needs shades is basically a LAW, y'know." He...he could have cried. Lifting his sweaty palms off the table, he turned just slightly to meet her eyes. You've got to be fucking kidding me. It...it was a miracle. Omg thank you...thank you so much. He'd never say it: gun-to-head never fucking say it.
"Hell yeah, it's a law 'n you know it, Jay." Spade snatched the shades from her with the letters: T-H-A-N-K-F-U-L ingrained into the green of his eyes. Immediately they were covered by the aviators, however, and he resumed his intense table-staring. He just couldn't fucking believe that she had a spare set for him. Like seriously how well did these people know him? It...it was almost insulting. He didn't look...right without sunglasses? Really now? Was that fucking true, then? He let out a hiss of breath and half laid on the table, staring blindly at the flowers that were only just that: flowers. They weren't pretty or anything; they were kinda just...there. Plus, flowers in winter was just fucking weird...like Jay having spare sunglasses to give him. At least with everything a few shades darker, he couldn't pinpoint every little goddamn detail... It was better...to say the most. STILL...Jay...like...what? He tried to smile, pushing the metal up the bridge of his nose as to block out all the light he possibly could. Honestly, he looked like he had a hangover, when in all actuality, he hadn't had a drop of the sweet poison in weeks. WEEKS. That's right folks, he was so fucking clean he was nearly insane. He'd fall over the edge any day now. Maybe even right now. He felt like that may be a possibility. FOCUS. He was in the middle of a conversation with this girl who he was actually rather fond of... like a little sister or some shit. "Why don't you go meet the Chancellor. You deserve as much. I've already met the guy. I'll be here." If he survived the overwhelming breaths of so many people. Fuck he needed a drink.
After Jay left his side, Spade flopped into a chair and continued staring at the plants. Actually seeing them this time, his brain cranked, then he was yet again lost. Tiger lily...orange with reddish brown speckles...thick stem...lots of pollen. He could smell it. He sneezed covering his face and masking the sound. Lilium superbum, native to eastern and central regions of North Creta. Other names including: Turk's cap lily, turban lily, swamp lily or Cretan tiger lily. Grows from 3–7 feet (0.91–2.1 m) high, with typically 3 to 7 blooms. The flowers have a green star at their center than can be used to distinguish L. superbum from the Asiatic "tigerlilies" that frequently escape from cultivation. Also the name of 17768 Tigerlily asteroid...a character from Peter Pan...song...song...song...album, novels, a dancer...She was probably hot. Spade's forehead met with the table. Alder wood: expensive, warm brown color with a figure like cherry wood, medium soft wood suitable for cabinetry and furniture with the appropriate sized joinery... Dull knocking sound, deep, durable. Spade turned his head to the side, keeping his eyes closed to prevent himself from seeing anything else. Why was he in the military again...? Goddammit.
...FUCK, he nearly had a heart attack. Something touched him. Something definitely-- "Come here often?" Was he talking to himself now? That was definitely one of his cheesy lines that were cheesy but worked alongside his trademark smile. But that voice...that voice. Shula? He opened his eyes and blinked up at her, sunglasses hanging off his nose and losing grip from one of his ears. It was Shu! He laughed a pathetic laugh that served only to mark his amusement at her copy-dialogue. But...he was sort of overwhelmed suddenly. "You okay Spade?" He couldn't answer. First thing he was seeing was...no fire bracelets--no alchemy. Defenseless. Two plain, thin, brass bangles replaced it. Her dress: bandhani print saree...green color faux georgette sprinkled with motifs of blooming resham embroidery... She had a red lotus in her hair. Lotus...buddhism..it was real. Braids missing in her hair, instead, it was pulled up into a bun and curls slightly like her bangs that were parted down the middle. He blinked. Half her lip gloss was licked off. No trace of eating anything--nervousness? She was nervous. Plain make up...muted...didn't draw attention. That...what was it called? Concealer, right, it was covering slight touches of circles under her bright, red eyes that the lotus matched. Yeah, she hadn't been sleeping well...he wished it was because of him. Fingernail on her right index finger seemed to be filed shorter than the rest and a little uneven...why? Must have broke from something...something. He thought about it. Cooking? Maybe from cooking?? Wait, did it matter? No, not it did not. Wait, why was he...Shit. Why was he...? There was a small buise on her left forearm. WHY WAS THAT THERE? No traces from human cruelty or anything. Maybe from smacking into something? That had to be-- "No, I'm not okay. I'm...not okay." Had a man ever admitted to that in the history of mankind? Well, Spade just fucking did.

Re: The Fire of Change
"If pulling a country out of despair is considered stupid to you, then I don't see why you came here to begin with. Don't worry, I'll excuse myself first." Ayden shrugged, before moving it into a chuckle.
"Free food, I guess. And this isn't pulling a country out of despair,"" He said, as the general moved away. Seems she lived up to her reputation. "This is a glorified political soirée!" Growling the last part, he stood to his feet, and scanned the area once more, a hawk amidst the crowds, desperately looking for a new plaything. He caught Spade and Ms. Furor... hm. Not fun enough to play with. Brighton, he already had a little... gambit working with her. Nikolaus... the pair couldn't be seen together too much. Head of Security had his things to do, but aside from that, their 'agreement' was about as private as it could get.
Hm. Oh well. May as well work on my aim... Drawing a throwing knife and hiding it nonchalantly beneath the abyss that his jacket created, he scrolled through targets... numerous cakes and tarts... far too good for him. No... he needed something disgusting... the burgers were a likely candidate, but nowhere near enough 'spray'... then he caught it.
A suspended bowl of fondue. Perfect.
Charging the throwing knife, he flicked his wrist and immediately rose up to walk off; as he turned his back to the buffet table, the alchemy began to take hold. However, considering there was no human target, it simply generated that same bioelectrical shock... and released it upon the bowl of fondue.
Within moments, a warm rain of molten cheese began to splatter down on political figures, important civilians, and militants alike. A wild cackle, and the silver-haired alchemist hoped that the General was also within the splatter radius, before humming to himself and vacating the scene of the 'crime'.
"Seems this could be fun, after all~!" He muttered to himself, before breaking into another cackle.

"Free food, I guess. And this isn't pulling a country out of despair; this is a glorified political soirée!" Really now? Reila rolled her eyes, finishing off her cheese cake while watching the Mura-looking guy out of the corner of a single golden eye. She saw him eye up the hanging fondue that was pretty much a few feet from her head and noted the fact that he was definitely plotting something. Man, did she ever get a break? At least she could handle this while everyone else enjoyed their wonderful moments of absolute ignorance. Though she was sure that a few others would have noticed too as soon as-- The man flicked his wrist that was more than concealed behind a bunch of tables and people. Something shiny flew at the target she knew wasn't her. Ugh, children would be children. But seriously, couldn't he have come up with something more creative? Cheese? How cheesy can you get?! She could have stopped the flying knife, but chose not to make a scene. He was discreet so she would react in the same way: discreetly. How much damage was a throwing knife going to do anyway? Was that supposed to be some sort of warning to her for blowing him off? Pathetic. Did this guy know who she was ...or was he just as ignorant as the rest of them?
The throwing knife hit the fondue, perfectly aimed, and...the cheese was suddenly searing hot, emitting clouds of steam, spilling down towards unsuspecting guests. Reila sighed, focusing hard on the liquid where it was until it completely froze, globs of the cheese plummeting harmlessly to the ground and shattering underfoot. Reila jogged the distance. "Oh, I'm so sorry! Sometimes it's hard to control~" Lies. But those within hearing distance all laughed and waved her off, knowing exactly who the pink-haired girl was. They resumed their conversations after spouting small talk at her when they really didn't care about her answers. She was a famous well-known militant and they knew very well that they didn't belong in the same world. The second Reila was excused after losing a few seconds of the man's tracks, she took off, her eyes immediately finding where he had fled to due to experience.
"Seems this could be fun, after all~!"
"Oh yeah?" Reila queried without an ounce of emotion. She picked up a butter knife off a table as she passed by, holding it at his throat as if she were asking him where the butter was. The soles of her feet glowed slightly through the peeks in her high heels as well as her palms as suddenly the butter knife became insanely sharp. "I can make it fun for you."

Re: The Fire of Change
My my, the Brightons are quite the popular lot lately, with the whole attention showered by particularly a myriad of people. From Murazar, that lad, all the way to... whoever the Hell was actually interacting with her. Right, they were unimportant, unless they become important, then they are important. But otherwise they are not really considered or acknowledged, only seen as a part of the background. Still, he nods to Ulrich whom he held in esteem as an old war machine, followed by a nod to Shula. Looks like she has become just as popular as the late Chancellor here, wait, not late, rather the current Chancellor. Not that there is any unfortunate implications at such a mess up, or is there?
"If you'll excuse me, I have a rain check to make. Be well, Brighton's, and Godspeed."
And with that, the slickster he was, Nikolaus departed and merged into the shifting crowds. Disappearing just like how he came, as to adorn a particular little sight his eyes happened by at a particular chance. Murazar conversing with the Chancellor, perhaps time to drop by and see what this whole commotion is about? Making indifferent faces at each other and all instead of your typical smiles. Then the most DESPICABLE of cowards approaches, that red head whom ran away back in the "Dietrich war"... crying like a little boy, running away from battle on impulse from Murazar. It burnt his chest with the fires of despicable HATE. HATE. He could not stop HATING that little BRAT. HATE WITHOUT COMPARISON. HATE ETERNITY.
Yet his quest tarried with no haste, delayed. His earlobes rung with static messages of his earphones, conveying thoughts of distress and particular plots and conspiracies. Calming him of his inner irritation with enthusiasm to offset the whole process.
*KZZZZTTTT* "Sir, we have encountered an unknown trespasser in the basement, please advi--" *BANG BANG. KSSSHHHHTTT* The transmission addressed to the Colonel went silent, much to the indifference of the Colonel's. His features didn't shift from his dead smirk.
"Naughty naughty little people deciding to impede on my OWN FUCKING VIGIL!" His thoughts pondered... peacefully? "Guess I'll make good on this rain check. But before I do that... more important matters awaits!"
And with that, the camouflaged Colonel dispersed his presence from the current party, traveling his way to whatever under dwellings that took place within the sphere. His mind swirled with options to consider as he made his way with large boisterous strides, shoving pauper and soldier alike out of the way with great force. Clearing a path to spot Ayden flirting with the North sector's head. Typical party attitude, fickle. He didn't care to near there to fulfill the full story to his head of reality itself. Heading to grab a quick glass of Martini from a waitress, chugging it all down in one gulp, and discarding the glass afterwards properly in the floor.
"Important matter all done, now to handle potential threat and assess the situation." He thought with great hindsight to what is obvious of his duty.
"What to do... what to do... perhaps execute the trespasser? That's an ideal outcome. Hrm... inform the chancellor about it? No no, wouldn't want that now. The entire party would stop, this bullshit show of unity would turn to chaos as paranoia takes place. Not the intended outcome, which means Derocha is off limits for assistance." Indeed Nikolaus thought in a flash calculatively, gripping the pommel of his saber tightly, "Very well, eliminate the threat in question with EXTREME PREJUDICE. No mercy, and no survivors. Security is the preferred result, and security... I shall deliver."
And with that, off Nikolaus went, finally to descend into the basement so secluded from the party above. Those daring to venture after Stuka if there were any, would soon hear within the confines of the dark subterranean underground sickening crunches, and shrieks for help. Hard splatters soon silenced the protests, as if the egg was cracked as the yoke spills out in gory detail. After those few moments of dealing with potential threats, the Colonel resumes his presence in the party with a splash of blood besmirching his cheek. Seating himself opposite of Ayden, well in his view as he took his moment winding down from his fun tim-- duties. Right.
"Note to self, Hans fucking Reinhardt throws great meetings. I should attend more of those." He smiled softly at these self-reflections, staring out at the crowd once more as he had his fair share of bloodlust climax.

Re: The Fire of Change
As Jay walked with Spade, she began to examine the party. So far, everything was as it should be; militants and civilians gathered around to meet their new leader, while nothing apocalyptially insane happened. So far, so good! After a bit, Spade said for Jay to go meet the leader, to which she obliged, offering Spade her trademark half-salute, with that nigh-insane grin that was the oh-so charismatic mark of the Furor. So saying, she walked towards the Chancellor, noting NOT to try the fondue which had frozen and splattered the floor. As she passed the foodstuffs, she looked to Reila and smiled. "Hey there Reila!~ Long time no see, eh?" With a smile and a wave, she carried on towards Hans. Rather quickly it was, that she arrived at his position. Noting also that Mura was near Hans, Jay decided that a talk with him was more than in order, following a quick greting to the Chancellor. "Hello sir! Lovely meeting you." With a friendly smile, she extended her human hand to him, so as to have him shake it.
"My name is Brigadier General Jay Furor, head of Central's side headquarters in Kanama. I look forward to hearing great things of you sir. Perhaps a good leader is just what we need to get through everything we've been struggling with, eh?" Giving the Chancellor time to respond, Jay gave anothers smile, and she spoke again, extending her hand once more. "Well, anyways, I have to go. Anyways, Chancellor, good luck. Make the nation proud, sir." Half-saluting, she turned to walk towards Murazar. Taking a silent, deep breath, she spoke up, staring slightly at her feet, but facing Mura's general direction.
"Hello General Dauthi." Even that one respect, calling him by name and rank, from jay, was something notreworthy. The words came strangely, and felt foreign to her, which they were. She was so used to calling him Jackwad... "Look, I'm pretty sure it's flat-out obvious we haven't been on the best terms since mercenary times. I just wanted to let you know, I was young and stupid back then. Heh, used to shoot off like a firecracker, a couple years back. But as for my temper then, and anything else I've done to you, I just want to say," A rather audible gulp, and a slight reddening of her face, like a chld being gripped by the conscience, and compelled to apologize for breaking someone's window. If General Dauthi had felt odd for her, this was Dr. Who in word form. "I... I just want to say... I'm s... sorry." The last word she said was quieter than the rest of what she said, but now that the worst was over, she looked up at Murazar. "Truth be told? Back then, I was a nobody, and you were a someone. A street rat like I was didn't really have much to do but to try and fight, like a weasel pinned in a corner. Honestly? I was a bit jealous." Well, now hat her chest felt better, having made amends, she gave a weak smile. "So what do you say? Could we not hate each other now?"
