Madder World Empty Madder World

Post by Guest Sun Dec 25, 2011 6:06 am

{Leads on from Mad World}

"Nngh..." A single eye slowly opened to the world, gazing into the darkness that it now found itself in. The eye that was attempted to groggily understand its surroundings slowly made a notion of the darkness, before switching open suddenly. This wasn't his office, nor was it Rebecca's. He looked around slowly, trying to get his bearings. He could hear the sporadic sounds of vehicle engines, and people occasionally chattering. From the low-light level streaming in from a small street-level window, he would assume that he was in a basement of some kind, just off a main North City street. The occasional truck drove past--this wasn't in the city centre. More to the outskirts; he wouldn't be surprised if this place was close to his own office. "M'fuckin' head..." He grit his teeth and shook his own head, feeling like it was filled with a ton of rocks. That feeling... why was he out? He sent tendrils back into the past, and it all came back in small bunches. A sound, he'd moved down stairs, seen nothing... that scent... chloroform... He grit his teeth and started to move, trying to get a feel of the place he was in. And here he was, tied to a chair. Attempting to move his hands, he found that he'd be able to release them with about two or three minutes movement.

The sound of a door opening suddenly caused his head to snap around to view the source. A heavy-set man slowly strolled in to the room, an imposing air about him. He grinned wildly, and drew a long blade from a sheath on his hip. He slowly raised his head to meet the man's gaze, and the large blonde grinned. "Hello. Enjoying your stay?" Menoitos shook his head, biting his lip softly. "Heh... Could've been better... can I get the name of my newfound captor?" The man shook his head, placing his blade against Menoitos' throat with a new-found wild look in his eyes. "My name is Pitt. And there's no talkin' your way out of this SHIT." "Oh, a rhyme. I sense base intelligence." The larger one spat to the side and growled, before planting the blade into the chair beside Meno's arm. "Oh, I'm sorry. Did I break your wit? Let me ask you something. What does Gerthuld Reiner look like?" Oh, it had to be that bastard. Meno grit his teeth, not pulling on that string. "What?" The man shouted out, placing his foot onto the chair and pushing him backwards and down. "What country you from?" "What?" Unlike the first question, that one was actually slightly confused. Was this man mentally retarded?

"What? 'What' ain't no country I've ever heard of. They speak Amestrian in 'What'?" "...what?" What. The. Fucking. Hell. AMESTRIAN MOTHERFUCKER, DO. YOU. SPEAK. IT?" "Of course I do." "Then you know what I'm saying." "No shit." The man grinned. "Then WHAT. DOES. GERTHULD REINER. LOOK LIKE?" Obviously frustrated, the man lorded over his dominance of the man that appeared to be within his grasps and ready to die at any point in time. "What?" Well, that was a stupid question. A machete was pointed at his face, the sharp point gleaming in the limited light. "Say what again. SAY. WHAT. AGAIN. I DARE YOU. I DOUBLE DARE YOU, MOTHERFUCKER. SAY. WHAT. AGAIN." Hmm... maybe it'd be best to cooperate right about now. "Well, he's white and pretty damn big." "Go on." Welp, he was getting a little better in mood. "He's bald, and wears glasses." The man above him nodded silently, as if in thought.

"Does he look like a bitch?" "...what?" A sudden pain, and a blade was shoved into his left arm. Meno didn't shout, but his attempts at breaking loose were slightly dissuaded by this pain. Left hand now cringing slightly, he could only work with his crushed right. "I SAID... DOES HE LOOK. LIKE A BITCH?!" "Hell no." The man's gaze turned back to him, and in the dim light he swore that he could see a look of craziness in his eyes. Drawing the machete slowly out of Menoitos' arm, he asked his next question calmly. "Then why'd you try to fuck him like one, Menoitos?" He blinked. "You familiar with the Sun God, Leto?" A slow nod came from Menoitos, letting him muse while he continued to work almost completely unabated. "His teachings borrow some verse from the Christian Bible. One of my favorites was taken from Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children." He began to pace slowly around the room, tapping his blade on the palm of his hand. Menoitos began to work harder now, finally loosening the ropes enough to break free. He didn't need his legs to punch out this fucker."And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord..."

Suddenly ripping loose of his binds, Menoitos suddenly launched himself up, placing his fist into the face of the man who had finally approached. The sudden force of the attack knocked the blade out of his hands, and it was already within the Wrathful One's fingers before the other could react. He cut himself out of his leg binds, ignoring the pain in his left arm. The other finally stood up, and Menoitos approached quickly, raising his leg into the air and planting it in the middle of his chest. Stumbling backwards, he barely had time to recoil before another leg was planted into the side of his head, knocking him to the side and onto the ground. Grinning now was Menoitos, who knelt over his flaccid form with a chuckle. "And you will know my name is the Lord..." The blade was raised into the air. "...when I lay my vengeance upon thee." Shoved into his throat, the man was swiftly decapitated, head rolling around on the ground. "See you in Hell." Slowly standing up, Menoitos sighed and looked around. Now, he needed to find a way out of here, and back to Rebecca. He hoped that she would be able to find him. Maybe she needed some incentive. Grabbing his jacket and eyepatch, he removed them from his body and slid them out of the window, attaching them so they couldn't be stolen. To the trained eye, they would appear as a flag. He disliked dirtying his clothing, however it was for a good cause. And for now, this blood-soaked Private Detective would wait. Patience...

was a Virtue.

"Are you quite sure you have enough weapons? It doesn't appear to be a heavily fortified location." Rebecca looked up as she strapped her last knife to her thigh, glancing over all the pouches that covered her black uniform. "Edi, I loike being prepared. I's not like I'm taking the rifle. Did ya start processing tha' flash drive ye'?" She called as she strode into her large work space, glancing to the screens in the center of the room behind those glass walls. "Yes Rebecca. It will take me approximately two hours to scan through all of it and form a comprehensive file of all of our findings. I may take some liberties to add some things I find as well." A chuckle escaped her throat as she double checked the first aid pouch on her hip. Good. She was full up on everything. No idea to know what might happen.

"'eaven forbid. Mind the 'ouse." It was time to send those bloody bastards straight to hell. Striding out the door, she could hear the locks whirling shut behind her. Heh, good fucking luck trying to break into there unless you decided you needed a good shave that had you ending at your bloody kneecaps. Bastards. Taking the stairs two at a time, the tall, purple haired woman wasted no time in her strides as she slipped around the side of the building to the street around the corner. A lovely looking motorcycle was sitting there, black and sleek with neon blue stripes that added a certain accent to the design. Unlocking the back, she pulled out one of the helmets and slipped it on, the visor nice and dark to obscure her features. Now if only her chest was smaller, then she could probably pass for a man. But no matter, it was time to tear walls down.

With a good rev, the motorcycle roared to life, zooming down the street as her crimson eyes practically burned a path ahead of her. Menoistos honey, hold on. The Engineer was coming. The building was several blocks away near some of the warehouses of town, the more... industrial. At least, the parts that were still standing from the war with Creta. Boy had that been awkward with some of her contacts... Heh. Oh well. Their loss. If they didn't want one of the best damned information brokers at their disposal that was fine by her, she could always find more clients. But now... Now it was time to take care of this Pitt. Real charmer that one. Seemed like there was another one keeping watch, but that was rightly it. In all honesty, she expected this to be easy really. Far easier than getting dropped off the Normandy near a Drachman military outpost. Pfft. This was a cake run!

The wind began to quiet by her ears as she slowed to a stop, looking up at the target building to see a familiar white jacket billowing out of a window along with a hint of his eyepatch. Aye, she knew those well. "Meno..." She murmured, letting the engine grow still as the key vanished into a pocket. She strode up quite relaxedly towards the front doors, a smirk rising to her lips behind her helmets visor as she stared at the man standing there behind the desk. Why, he seemed rather surprised to see her! Gasp! Go figure. "'Scuse me sir, but um..." She began, making note of how he was moving. Possibility of a buzzer for security. Camera by door. Stairs, to the right. "Bu' 'ave you 'appened to see a man ge' brough' in 'ere unconscious and um.. in a whoite suit? Cause ye'see, 'e's a moight bit impor'an' te me and..." Her eyes followed his hand as he reached downwards, "I'd love to 'ave 'im back." She asked sweetly, leaning on the counter rather imposingly.

"I'm... sorry miss but I haven't seen anyone matching that description at all. Perhaps you should check with the police?" He answered, looking over the woman before him. He couldn't tell her. They'd kill him! But... she looked military. She'd probably kill him too... Aw man, he should have taken a different job.... "Is tha' so?" Rebecca answered, starting to walk towards the stairs innocently before drawing her pistol out faster than the boy could respond. "Quoi'e a shame tha'. Tell them I'm coming, an' I'll personally ensure your balls are 'anging roight next te yer 'ead. Capiche?" She couldn't help but grin as she saw him nod fervently, continuing up the stairs. Kid looked like he was going to piss himself. Stupid little shit. But the grin faded as she bolted up the stairs, switching out her pistol for a knife. More silent kill you see. She began to slow as she came up to the sixth floor, peering around the corner to find a man standing lazily by the door. Now how should she.... Oh no, she had an idea.

Straightening up, she slipped her helmet off, a pleasant smile upon her lips as she saw him startle to attention. "Dun even bother." She muttered as she moved quickly, grabbing the wrist that was drawing out a gun, slamming that helmet into the side of his head. You could say he hit the floor with a thump. The look of utter disdain upon her lips was rather... venomous. Shifting her grip on her helmet, she started to bend down to find the key, but.... stopped with a small grimace. Fuck it. With a good strong kick, the door swung inward, a few small splinters of wood going flying as she stepped into the room.

She already could smell the blood before she even walked in, casting her eyes from the decapitated corpse to her love sitting there so patiently with blood staining his shirt. Bastards. "Honey I'm home." She said softly with a smile as she took long strides to reach his side, the knife sliding back into its sheath. "Guess those bastards decoided to troy a differen' method eh?" She murmured while diving into her medical kit, wanting to at least get it bandaged before he could bleed out anymore.

"Honey I'm home." Ah, there she was. Three minutes early, by his calculations. Chuckling softly, a bottle of stain remover was produced from the man's pocket; he began squirting and applying withing seconds. Blood made for bad stains on white clothing. Gritting his teeth, he heard her approaching closer, turning his head up and grinning at her with a shining smile. "Guess those bastards decoided to troy a differen' method eh?" No shit. He chuckled. "Seems tha' way. Poor bastard o'er thar' didn' even 'ave a chance. Though' 'e could tie m'up. Fuckin' sad cun' that one is." Chortling now, Menoitos regained his coat from the window, taking a few steps there before returning to Rebecca with a dry smirk. "A'igh'. We'd be'er get ou' b'fore tha' fuckwit decides he's gonna attack us 'ere and now. Should'a known the connection from the start, 'Becca." He'd started running now, musing as he moved; putting those skills that he'd gained to the limit. "Thinkin' abou' it, we'd 'ave to assume that there's a connection between ol' Wesker an' the Cross Killer." Yes, that made logical sense. "Tha' decap guy, uhhh... Pitt. Jes' before 'e tried t'kill me, 'e recited a verse from Leto's words, which borrows some shi' from th' Christian Bible."

"It had struck me as strange. Wesker 'ad given me nothin', even when I bea' it out of him. Normally, 'e would. Tha' implies that there's a bigger force at work. This guy is fuckin' connected." Rubbing his chin, Menoitos turned back to face Rebecca as they ran, running backwards yet still moving past obstacles; did he see them beforehand? Most likely not. "So, compilin' wha' we got, we can safely assume tha' this 'Cross Killer' is very well-connected, possibly qui' rich, too. Tha' puts money ou' o' the question. 'e is religious, so there's th'likelyhood of him bein' a "Blade of th'Lord", a man who kills for religious beliefs alone. I've gone up against a couple o'those. They ain't fuckin' pretty, 'specially when they 'ave religious fanaticism on their side." Turning around, Menoitos vaulted over a stack of bricks, rolling along the ground. Strange. There were no guards present, and a soft rumbling was slowly starting to grow louder and louder. That bothered him. "Anyways. You ge' anythin' on the stick? Or izzat still runnin'?" The question was posed to Rebecca now, and she had all the leave in the world to talk. Well, he thought so anyway. If she had spoken, it was all drowned out by the loud rumbling of the helicopter that lowered itself down towards the front of the warehouse. Pointing straight at them, Menoitos could only pull Rebecca out of the way as missiles were fired directly towards their position; the explosive warheads blowing up a large portion of the warehouse behind them.

Think fast, Meno... A car. A truck. One of those ramp trucks. Oh, lo and behold, pointing at the helicopter. How... convenient. Chuckling softly, Meno turned to grin at Rebecca. Confidence oozed from his smile, and he nodded. "Stay 'ere. I go' a plan." Breaking out into a sprint, the man ran straight for the car; diving into the driver's seat. Oh, look. Keys in ignition. How... convenient. The car was turned on, and Meno put his foot down, driving the vehicle off at speed. Out the front of the warehouse it went, sprawling around the carpark and blasting back inside. The helicopter followed now, pointing its sights at the car at all times. Come on... a salvo of bullets was fired after him; the car swerved just in time, tires squealing on concrete floor. He was now in a direct line for the truck, and the pilot hadn't noticed yet. Faster, faster... Opening the door, Menoitos dived out of the car; that kept the pilot's attention long enough. Long enough for what, you ask? Well, the car that was barreling along at speed suddenly hit the ramp. That ramp launched the car into the air like a projectile. A projectile that collided with the helicopter, destroying it and creating a burning mess of metal. Groaning, Menoitos slowly stood up, making his way over to Rebecca now. "If y'ave to ask... I ran outta bullets..."

To see him procure stain remover from a pocket was hardly surprising considering the fact he chose to wear a white suite. That was asking for it to get bloody stains! (no pun intended). She had to wonder if he had multiple suites or not. You'd think that he would all considering. "Seems tha' way. Poor bastard o'er thar' didn' even 'ave a chance. Though' 'e could tie m'up. Fuckin' sad cun' that one is." Rebecca chuckled herself at that, sighing lightly as she shook her head. "Aye. These fella's shoulda known who they was dealin' with." Damn fools. Least they learned their lesson now eh? Hah! "A'igh'. We'd be'er get ou' b'fore tha' fuckwit decides he's gonna attack us 'ere and now. Should'a known the connection from the start, 'Becca." "Can' know everythin' all the toime." She murmured softly, following after him while moving around the bodies that lay about the floor. What a productive day this was turning out to be!

"Thinkin' abou' it, we'd 'ave to assume that there's a connection between ol' Wesker an' the Cross Killer." It was becoming clear to her that he was musing out loud and decided it was best to allow him to merely continue uninterupted. "Tha' decap guy, uhhh... Pitt. Jes' before 'e tried t'kill me, 'e recited a verse from Leto's words, which borrows some shi' from th' Christian Bible." The bible? Really now? Well, this was a religious crime after all (not that she was the biggest fan of religion). The whole organization thing, and faith... it just wasn't her cup of tea at all. "It had struck me as strange. Wesker 'ad given me nothin', even when I bea' it out of him. Normally, 'e would. Tha' implies that there's a bigger force at work. This guy is fuckin' connected." A grimace formed upon her lips as she bounded after him, so glad that she was dressed now otherwise running would not be her friend. She had to chuckle though despite the seriousness of what they were discussing as he suddenly began to run backwards before her, keeping an eye on him just in case he somehow managed to trip down the stairs or over the other obstacles.

They ain't fuckin' pretty, 'specially when they 'ave religious fanaticism on their side." Oh joy. " e'll probably come in a' us sideways. Siddle up an' smile, then hi' us 'ard. A Man of faith is somethin I'd rather no' 'ave to foight." They were always the worst. You could never shake someone who believed as strongly as they did, and they were relentless. It was.... mildly terrifying to be perfectly honest. She jumped off to the sides, avoiding some blocks of wood among other things. She had half been expecting to have to kick some more ass, thats why she brought so many damn guns with her! And knives. "Anyways. You ge' anythin' on the stick? Or izzat still runnin'?" Ah. Yes. That.

Rebecca sighed lightly while they ran, vaulting easily over a box as her crimson eyes turned to him. "Well y'see... Edi's still workin' on i'. I koinda ran ou' of the house when you was gone. Bastards took moi man, I 'ad to kick-" She began to answer, at least until the helicopter decided it wanted to join their little party. "Aw for fu-" She was about to dive off to the side when he pulled her away himself, almost falling over since she hadn't quite expected the sudden tug. Oh boy. well... Fuck. What was she going-- Oh. "Stay 'ere. I go' a plan." Or he could just go off and do that.. " 'ave fun honey!" She called after him, pulling out one of her pistols as she honestly debated trying to jump into the helicopter and take control of it. But she would stay put and offer what cover fire she could for Meno. Aw man, this... This was entirely too nerve wracking! First, he gets himself kidnapped. Now, he had a helicopter shooting at him and he was-... Was he? No...

Well, there the car went, soaring out towards the helicopter that was poised there in the air. She went running forward after him, praying to god that it missed her bike because it was... rather expensive and took a lot of time to build the custom parts that were in it. And there was Rebecca, standing there with her hands on her hips and a smirk on her face. "If y'ave to ask... I ran outta bullets..." "Oh I wasn't gonna ask a thing love. Jus' glad your alroigh'." Pecking his cheek, she glanced around and found her bike not too far away in perfect condition, the fire licking rather close to it which did make her a might bit nervous. Walking on over, she slipped her helmet back on, pulling out a second one for him and offering it as she slid on. "Shall we? Go' a killer ta catch." Revving the engine, it roared pleasantly to life, a grin on her lips (not that he could really see it thanks to her helmet).

"If y'ave to ask... I ran outta bullets..." "Oh I wasn't gonna ask a thing love. Jus' glad your alroigh'." Ahhh, her reactions amused him. They were always so useful to gauge emotions, he didn't need to worry about a thing. Almost cackling due to lack of breath, Menoitos stretched and yawned a little. Well, if there was one thing he had to admit, it was that he was fucking tired He'd basically spent half of the previous night awake and full of energy (that got drained by Rebecca and her glorious bounty), woken up, gone to a firefight, fought a mob boss, gotten away, gotten knocked out, taken to a hiding place, almost died and then killed a helicopter with a car. Any normal human would probably be exhausted. Menoitos was, as it stood, mostly normal. Energy levels? Well, they were almost on empty as a matter of fact. Grinning to himself, the man with the eyepatch and white suit stretched once more and shook his head. "A'ight, we gotta get back to th'office an' see if EDI compiled 'dem resul's. I'll cross-check'em wit' wha' I 'ave an' we'll see if we can' find th' nex' target." Nodding to himself, he now noticed that she was, as it stood, not actually next to him. Taking two or three seconds to realize where she was, Menoitos had to sigh and look over at her with a sheepish smirk. "Shall we? Go' a killer ta catch." She'd offered him a helmet; he'd graciously accepted and climbed aboard the motorcycle, the vehicle revving to life and leaving the premises behind. As they weaved through dwindling traffic, Menoitos felt himself pondering further upon this 'Cross Killer' case. In order to compile the information, he drew up a mental table in his mind and started to place all the pieces together.

To begin: He had to realize several things.

  1. The 'Cross Killer' was a devout follower of Leto. Because of the nature of this God and its worshippers, it was likely that these killings hid a deeper purpose than religious fanaticism.
  2. They seem to base themselves in North City, but people in South City had been starting to hear rumors of a man crying out to Leto in the streets. Needs further investigation.
  3. There's a connection between Wesker (Gerthuld Reiner) and the Cross Killer. Whether or not it was to do with funding would remain to be seen. Needs further investigation.

As for the victims:

  1. All of the victims come from wealthy homes. Whether this suggests a jealousy of riches or a deeper purpose remains to be seen.
  2. Each of the victims have a cross carved into their chests. An obvious calling-card.
  3. Each of the victims is a young female, high-school age.
  4. None of them received any clue as to being the next target; so there is no knowable time for striking.

Associations? Well, known associates:

  1. Gerthuld Reiner. Likely to be a financial backer.
  2. The Drachman, Markov. Seems to be the one who finds the targets.
  3. Brian Kelly (Alias?). Possibly the Cross Killer himself. Needs further investigation.

With everything in his mind, he started to move the pieces around the board, finally settling on everything that he needed to with some form of understanding. Tomorrow he would delve into these stories in South City. There was always the possibility of the killer moving, though such short notice would be strange. Maybe the next week or so, but not now. Closing his eyes as he mused, he felt the bike pull to a stop. Shaking his head slowly, Menoitos clambered off of the machine and reached hands up, sliding the helmet up off of his head with a sigh. "I'll ne'er ge' use' to them damn mot'rbikes, ya'now." A soft laugh and Meno turned towards the building with a grimace. Alright, it was time to see what EDI had gleaned from the flash-drive...

Hehehehe, they were due for some good rest once they had gone over the info they wanted to. Maybe a kalua coffee was in order.... Or was it too early to be hitting the bottle? Naaaahhh, it was never too early! And besides, it would have coffee in it. That wasn't something you could shake a stick at eh? "A'ight, we gotta get back to th'office an' see if EDI compiled 'dem resul's. I'll cross-check'em wit' wha' I 'ave an' we'll see if we can' find th' nex' target." Talking to himself again, tsk, tsk, tsk.... He was so very slow sometimes! But it was rather endearing since she knew it was just because he was pondering the case that was taking up their lives right now. She HAD to love a man who slipped so easily into analytical thought as she did. Had to! Ahhh how lucky she was... A one-night stand wouldn't just be a one-night stand. Just like she wanted her days to begin you know? But that was besides the point. He had taken his helmet and it was on his head so it was time to move! Chuckling to herself, she revved the engine and kicked the stand back before driving off into the streets.

Accelerating past cars and people, their ride went relatively silently since she knew better than to try speaking. He must have found something out there besides... well... getting stabbed. She was still pissed about that. Yes. Kalua Coffee was required. But in all reality, what would have Edi have uncovered? There was an awful lot on that flash drive and it gave her a headache remembering when she had to retrieve it all. If one thought sitting through lectures was bad enough with all that new info trying to get pushed into your brain, her alchemy could sometimes be ten times worse. Oi. So many ones and zeroes.... She'd be lucky to retain her brain matter at this rate! We'll not even go into some of the lingering negative effects should she be interrupted during such a process multiple times. Boy had EDI drilled her on that one.... Not her fault! Not her fault at all. It was just what was most useful to her at this point and there was no denying it.

"Rebecca." The voice was quiet in her helmet, the visor whirring to life as they drew closer and closer to their destination. "What is it EDI?" She spoke softly, not really caring if he heard her or not. She knew he wouldn't understand in any case. "I have finished sifting through the files. I trust your mission was a success? I do detect two life forms upon your bike." "Of course it was successful. You think I'd leave there without my man?" She had to chuckle once more and glance back to him as she could feel his hands on her waist. Ooo that did tickle her so... "So what did you find out?" She had to wonder if he noticed how her accent didn't quite carry over into Aerugese or not... It was just one of those things. Perhaps because she learned how to speak that correctly first, haha! "Some most troubling things. I will wait until you get here. Shall I heat up any refreshments for you?" Well that didn't bode well at all. "A kalua coffee. I'm sure I'm going to enjoy this... Rebecca out."

The bike hummed softly as it rolled to a stop outside of her building, the stand coming down as she slid off with a light sigh. "I'll ne'er ge' use' to them damn mot'rbikes, ya'now." Her helmet came off slowly as she smirked, shaking her purple locks free of their confinement. "Oh come now, I think their LOADS of fun! You bi' ol' fashioned 'ere hm?" She shook her head slightly to show it was a joke, the two helmets vanishing back into their compartment before she took his hand, walking upstairs with him. Yes, she would not let him get kidnapped again. Because then she'd have to tear the whole goddamn city down, and Creta would certainly not be happy about that now would they? Oh well. Going through the locks whippity quick, they soon stood within her apartment, the smell of coffee permeating from the kitchen. "Alroigh'... EDI, wot's 'is joyous news you 'ave for us eh?" She called as she began to take off some of the excess equipment that she currently didn't need. Her belt with the pouches filled with various toys, the other straps that went about her legs, the knives that she hid, her pistols.... It was rather comical since it was such a great number that you had to wonder where she put them all. Or maybe not. Heh.

"Welcome back Menoitos. Would you also care for some kalua coffee?" Came the pleasant voice, Rebecca having to glance up as she now turned her attention towards the brewing coffee. Time to make those drinks... "Of course. I found accounts linked to Gerthuld Reiner and a few others that benefit from the dead girls.
