Apples to Apples, Dust to Dust
What a glorious day in Carraig. The sun was out, shining bright, and some birds were still chirping. Guess they didn’t know winter was coming. Silly birds.
Mickey treaded through the forest, carrying a basket full of apples. Mostly green apples, but there were a few red ones mixed in. All stolen from an orchard, of course, but they had to make do with what the lovely earth provided them. And they needed money.
”Cu Gyata,” he says looking at her, ”dra zup'c bnaddo cesbma. So vneaht'c pnudran'c luiceh'c ihlma'c feva fyhdc cusa uv SlGehmo'c meaidahyhdc dygah uid. Yht draca ybbmac rana yna uin delgad du y csuudr byolralg.”
Stopping suddenly, he ponders over something for a moment. ”Famm, ev hud dra ybbmac, drah sumudujc. Oui cdemm ryja cusa, nekrd?” Turning towards Kaede, he raises an eyebrow. She was pretty trigger-happy with molotovs, all things considered. ”Be honest, lass,” he says, putting the basket down and picking up one of the red apples. Pulling out a small knife, he cuts a slice off of it and eats it, still staring intently at Kaede.

Re: Apples to Apples, Dust to Dust
Mmmm.... Today was one of those days where it would be absolutely PERFECT for a picnic! It wasn't too hot or too cold, the wind wasn't too harsh, nature was doing her thing... Kaede loved days like this! Though... They did make her think of school. It made her miss some of the friends she had left behind. But she didn't need them! She had Mickey now! Gosh... How angry were her parents? She could still hear their chastising in her head, and... and... She bit her lower lip as she sat there in the woods, checking over their equipment for the next job. It was a really scary mental image. There was NO way she'd be going home any time soon! Probably never. Sighing to herself, her ribbons tails fluttered upon the gentle breeze, keeping part of her strawberry blonde hair back. She was wearing a pretty white sundress today with white boots since sandals weren't really optimal for this work. She was looking through her complimentary purse, hands reaching through as her big friend came up through the tree's.
Grinning she immediately waved to him and started to push herself up, smoothing out the skirt of her dress. "Oooo apples!! I hope you didn't...." That was a stupid point. Of course they were stolen! They didn't have enough money to afford that many! It made her stomach squirm. She... She still wasn't used to this sort of thing at all. "Well... I hope you didn't take too many." She spoke softly, falling quiet as he spoke. ”Cu Gyata,” Her blue eyes stared up at him with curiosity, folding her hands in front of herself with a sweet, innocent smile. ”dra zup'c bnaddo cesbma. So vneaht'c pnudran'c luiceh'c ihlma'c feva fyhdc cusa uv SlGehmo'c meaidahyhdc dygah uid. Yht draca ybbmac rana yna uin delgad du y csuudr byolralg.” Heehee, he was always so funny, and had such extended family friends! B-but.... But take someone out? She bit her lower lip and looked down at the grassy ground, her thumbs pressing together nervously. "Y-you mean... k..kill them..." Oh wait, apples? Her eyes raised as she stared at him with a perplexed expression. "Ruf yna dra ybbmac uin delgad? Fryd tu oui ryja bmyhhat?" She didn't understand.
Buuuuut then he had to ask. Stiffening, her eyes went wide and her fingers fiddled with each other as her eyes flickered from her feet, to her bag, to his face, then back down. Around and around they went till they settled upon her feet, her shoulders curling as she hung her head. Aw man... he had even spoken in Creig too.... "I-I-I... u-um..." She bit her lower lip and slowly, hesitantly raised her eyes to meet his eyes, unclasping her hands only to clasp them behind her back. "I only have two left....I'm sorry Mickey! I-I..." With great speed she crouched down and grabbed a red apple, nibbling on it like a little mouse. He wasn't going to be happy with her, was he? She... She just liked molotov's a lot! Fire was pretty! It danced around, and it was colorful, and and and... And he was still going to scold her for using too many. She knew she did. B-but... She took another nibbling bite, looking back down at the ground.

Ah, so she might have a problem after all. He knew she wasn’t a fan of all the dirty work. Sure, knocking over a bookie’s, or destroying an illegal gambling den was fine, but she had issues with killing. A sweet lass, really. He couldn’t really blame her.
"I only have two left....I'm sorry Mickey! I-I..."
Ah, now he'd done it and made her feel bad. That always made him feel bad. Wasn't her fault she had a knack for throwing fire bombs.
”Sumudujc yna ayco ahuikr du syga. Yht lrayb duu, ihmega ybbma pu-“ He cringed as she dived into eating the apple she had chosen. Luckily he hadn’t had any time to prepare, but…
”Cdelg ynuiht sa muhk ahuikr, yht oui fuh'd ku pedehk ehdu ybbmac mega dryd,” he says, cutting himself another slice. ”Zicd cdelg du dra nat uhac. Uha uv uin syngc caasc du muja knaah ybbmac. Dryd'c zicd veha po sa...”
Searching through his Satchel of Holding, he pulls out a chunk of what appears to be modeling clay… ”Drec rana'c bmycdel aqbmuceja,” he rattles off with a wide grin. ”Yht mega E cyet, draca ybbmac yna uin delgad du yh ayco byolralg.”

Re: Apples to Apples, Dust to Dust
Oh man oh man oh man... Was he going to be mad? It really was the strangest thing too! She never knew she liked fire so much until he let her throw her first one. Ok so... maybe she had kinda filched her first throw b-but that was besides the point! They still completed the job fine! They had still gotten paid and stuff... ”Sumudujc yna ayco ahuikr du syga. Yht lrayb duu, ihmega ybbma pu-“ Why had he-- Oh. She blinked rapidly, seeing him cringe as she bit into the apple, her brows furrowing in puzzlement. "Tyssed Selgao, fryd ec drec--" She stopped as he continued, chewing slowly on her apple.
”Cdelg ynuiht sa muhk ahuikr, yht oui fuh'd ku pedehk ehdu ybbmac mega dryd,” A pout took over her features, now just what was that supposed to mean? Apples were delicious! They deserved to be bitten right into.... right? I mean... it was so satisfying to that way... right? Oooooo, what did he mean?! ”Zicd cdelg du dra nat uhac. Uha uv uin syngc caasc du muja knaah ybbmac. Dryd'c zicd veha po sa...” "Thats fine with me! I don't like green apples anyways. Too sour." She stuck her tongue out and made a face of distaste, shaking her head at a memory. Her mom used to love eating green apples with cashews, and once she had stolen a little slice. Yeowza it had been so sour!! Not sweet like red apples at all! How anyone could prefer such icky green things was beyond her comprehension. Their mark could have all the green apples he wanted as long as she could get the red ones. After all, a type of red apples was called Red Delicious! Who could resist that!
Hm? She realized she had been zoning out and blushed faintly as she snapped back to attention, her blue eyes lowering to him pulling something out of his bag. Heehee, it almost looked like Play-Dough! How was this tied to their job? ”Drec rana'c bmycdel aqbmuceja,” She had started to lean closer to look, buuuuut her eyes widened and she straightened up, taking a step back from the mean play-dough. She wouldn't be playing with that! No sir-ee! Kaede couldn't help but relax at his big grin, he really did enjoy his big booms.... Just like during their first job together that had them now running all around the countryside to escape capture. And pig farmers. Jerks. ”Yht mega E cyet, draca ybbmac yna uin delgad du yh ayco byolralg.” A frown creased her features as she took another bite out of her red apple, chewing thoughtfully as she glanced from the basket of apples to the clay in his hands, taking a moment before she finally swallowed. "I don't get it. How are the apples our ticket to an easy paycheck?" Dammit Mickey, she wasn't as knowledgeable as him!
She was about to take another bite when a little worm poked its head out of her apple, staring her in the face before she let out a shrill shriek and threw it away, her hands jerking back as she wanted to spit out everything she had just eaten of that apple! Ewewewewewewewewewewewewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!! Though.... Wait.... Her squimishness was put on pause as she seemed to freeze and stare after her apple that she had thrown... somewhere (who knew where it landed now). Blinking a few times, she turned her gaze from the basket of apples to the explosives again, then up to Mickey, her hands lowering to her sides. "Fyed.... Yna fa biddehk dryd eh dra ybbmac?" She asked in wonderment, her brows furrowing at the thought. But how were they gonna do that? And how would he set it off? Ooooo, she hated not getting things!!

”Fyed.... Yna fa biddehk dryd eh dra ybbmac?”

Re: Apples to Apples, Dust to Dust
......What? In the apples?! Just how were they going to do that! Ooooo, Mickeeeeyyyy she didn't always get all of this stuff! Her eyes widened as she fumbled, but managed to catch the red apple he tossed her, emitting a little "eep!" of surprise. Sticking her tongue out at him, she took a little nibble of it as if that were her big retaliation for startling her. She almost hadn't been ready to catch that! And it probably would have hurt if it had hit her too! ”Caa, dra gao ec sygehk ed muug pameajypma. Ihdysbanat. Dryd? Dryd'c dnelgo. Tu ouin zup nekrd, druikr...” Her brows furrowed as she listened to him, shaking her head slightly at his sound effect. She couldn't help but cringe a little as her mind gave her a lovely image of what the effect must look like. Something with bodies ending at about the middle of their chest... or no heads.... Nnnnn... She felt like she might get sick...
Her skin paled as her blue eyes lowered to the apple she held, suddenly not feeling very hungry for apples.... ”'Luinca, drao sekrd pa csynd. Cbud cusadrehk. Hudela cusadrehk uvv. Cu, oui bid eh y nasuda taduhydun yc famm. Lyh'd tu desat, druikr. Drah oui'na zicd muugeh' vun dnuipma." Her lips twisted to the side in thought, raising her gaze from her shiny red apple to her companion. "Most generally aren't very observant when they eat apples though." She pointed out, thinking of how moments before she hadn't even noticed there had been a worm in it. She shivered again in disgust. There was no way she'd be eating apples for a while after this.
”Huf, E'ja tuha cusa... kujanhsahd luhdnyldc pavuna. Drao ryja draca esbyld taduhydunc. Cahcedeja meddma drehkc. Ryt y vaf cdycrat yfyo yvdan dryd nih, pid E icat 'as y luibma oaync yku. She knew he had done many a random job, but that? Really? Oh. Right. The job.... information on their tools. "Ed fyc vih caaehk dras peda ehdu druca ybbmac....” His words echoed again in her mind, and again her skin seemed to pale as she looked uncomfortably towards the ground. Why did she have to have such an active imagination? She didn't really want to picture that at all.... "I guess... " She had to distract herself somehow, her blue eyes looking over her pretty white dress before turning her gaze up to him. "I guess I shouldn't have worn a white dress huh? This is going to be a messy job..." Ugh... Apple bits have to stay down please!
”Simple, see?” Kaede sighed heavily, looking to that cone shaped slice of apple he held in his hand. "Oayr... E zicd tuh'd naymmo mega drec oui ghuf?"

“Frah tet drec rybbah?”
”Mega E cyet, y luibma oaync pylg.” He deflected the question easily, refusing to go into more detail than that. Plus, he was packing plastic explosive in the apple. And he had to have just enough to get the result he wanted.

Re: Apples to Apples, Dust to Dust
Oooo Mickey.... Always keeping secrets from her! And for once she actually asked questions too! Or well... ones that mattered anyways... That pertained to his past! That was very important! "Thats not the whole story Mickey..." She pouted a little and watched him with his work, folding her arms over her chest like a child who was denied a toy or something. She wasn't that childish, was she? Mmm.... Ok.... Maybe she was being childish.... But he was chuckling, and had clearly moved on while she fretted over such things, frowning as he began to speak again. ”Ev drec fungc, mycc, fa fuh'd pa kaddehk lmuca du dras yd ymm.” Her brows furrowed in confusion again, they wouldn't? "But.. how... what?" She didn't get everything Mickey! She wanted to punch him in the arm for her frustration, but considering the explosives he was handling, that was hardly the best of ideas. So she merely stood there in her frustration with hands trembling even under her folded arms. She didn't get everything, and she wasn't fully comfortable with this.
” Drec cund uv drehk ech'd ajanouha'c lib uv day, Gyata. Haedran ec so zup. Ev oui tuh'd fyhd ouin ryhtc eh drec, drah dryd'c veha. E fuh'd ycg oui du tu yhodrehk. Pid ihmacc oui lyh lusa ib fedr y paddan fyo uh dygehk mylgeac uv dra syh rihdehk ic, drah drec ec fryd E'mm pa tuehk.” Her frustration dissipated as she listened to him speak, and instead she just felt.... like a disappointment. Or like she had done something wrong. Like she... Oh words didn't adequately describe it! She felt.. small. Lowering her eyes, her head bowed slightly and her throat felt like a stone was caught within it, her blue eyes pained. She felt hurt. That worked even though the sensation was certainly more complicated than that. "Drydc hud vyen Mickey..." She mumbled, the words barely coherent. It'd be amazing if he understood, much less heard her. He knew she'd do anything to help him, to keep them both alive and together, so for him to say that.... It was so mean!!
The breeze ruffled them both, her almost orange hair alighting on the wind as her white dress billowed slightly. She started to raise her eyes to look at him until he said those words. ”Oui'na vysemo, cu oui tuh'd haat du mayja, pid nasaspan dryd oui ryja yhudran vysemo du ku rusa du. E fuh'd cdub oui vnus kuehk pylg drana.” She froze, her eyes going wide at what he had said... no, dared to say! "...pid nasaspan dryd oui ryja yhudran vysemo du ku rusa du. E fuh'd cdub oui vnus kuehk pylg drana.” Had... Had he really just said that? Her hands slowly tightened into fists even as they shook slightly, the corner of her mouth twitching. "You... you can't be serious..." She whispered, taking a couple of steps backwards as her lip trembled now. "I can't go back there. You know I can't go back there!" The words burst forth with an unexpected power, a tear rolling down her cheek as her hands raised up towards her chest still clenched, forcing themselves back down. She wanted to slap him, she wanted to slap him so bad!!!
Did it make sense to him why his words affected her so? Probably not. He was making her feel useless, like she shouldn't be at his side. He called her family, yet dared to bring her parents up after that? "Mickey, oui yna y... y... yh yccruma!" She sniffled and spun on her heel and almost ran away from him as more tears streamed down her face. She was trying her best! She was... She really really was.... She didn't even grab her bag that still lay near the basket of apples, her arm coming up as she tried to wipe away the tears. Maybe she was just upset at herself for giving a damn, for being unable to just let go of caring like he could and be fine with ending these mens lives. Was she really cut out for helping him out at all? What would she do if she didn't have him? She was just a burden with her morals! Why couldn't she just let them go?!
” Drec cund uv drehk ech'd ajanouha'c lib uv day, Gyata. Haedran ec so zup. Ev oui tuh'd fyhd ouin ryhtc eh drec, drah dryd'c veha. E fuh'd ycg oui du tu yhodrehk.
”You... you can't be serious... I can't go back there. You know I can't go back there!”
Mickey heard her, but didn’t know how to respond. She was… young. Raised in a sort of sheltered environment. He and the Pikeys offered freedom. To him, as long as she didn’t betray them, she would be family, and would always have a second home to. But…
”Mickey, oui yna y... y...”
”E's y fryd?”
”Yh yccruma!”
Mickey almost dropped the bottom of the apple, looking over at Kaede. She was… She was… For fuck’s sake…
Tossing the apple nonchalantly to the side, he jumps to his feet, slowly approaching Kaede.
”Rao, muug, E ghuf E...” He paused, thinking over his words. ”E fych'd dammehk oui du mayja, oui ghuf.” Walking around to her front, he gently rubbed her shoulders. ”Oui'na y kuut mycc. Csynd duu. Re: Apples to Apples, Dust to Dust
Why was he being such a jerkity jerk about this? Although... Maybe she wasn't being really fair at all. She was probably the one more at fault here, after all, she was assuming things here. Ooooo, she had jumped to conclusions again hadn't she! Dammit... She found herself slowing to a stop by a distant tree, flopping down in a little niche at its roots, bringing her knees tightly to her chest and crying into them quietly. Why was everything so complicated? Why did her morals make it all so complicated? For Mickey, it seemed like it was such an obvious, easy decision! Like it didn't really matter in the end. Yet all she could remember was her parents religious banter and how they drilled into her over and over to obey the law. To not fall to the "degenerates" level that was spreading through children her age. How could she have known any better? She had to follow them blindly otherwise things got... unpleasant. No, there was certainly no way she could go back to that home now!
Sniffling, she heard footsteps approaching and only then realized how her panties might be showing because of how she was sitting with her dress. Straightening out her legs slightly, she looked up mournfully to her tall friend that walked up to her, her blue eyes seeming to shimmer like water from the tears in her eyes. ”Rao, muug, E ghuf E...” What? What did he know? She sniffled again and looked at the ground angrily, still not sure if she was angry at him, or just frustrated at herself. ”E fych'd dammehk oui du mayja, oui ghuf.” Her eyes widened a little as she sniffled again, straightening out her legs completely as her hands smoothed out the skirt of her dress. He... he wasn't? Really really? "You...weren't?" Aw man... That mean she had jumped to conclusions again.... Stupid phrasing and jumpy brains.... He kneeled down in front of her and rubbed her shoulders in a very comforting manner, holding his gaze as her bangs hung in front of her eyes a little bit. ”Oui'na y kuut mycc. Csynd duu. Jano ryhto du ryja ynuiht. Huf... E's zisbehk du luhlmiceuhc fedr drec zup. Syopa oui't nydran ryhtma ed tevvanahdmo? Syopa fa lyh pmuf ib draen gedlrah, clyna dra cred uid uv 'as. Un syopa fa lyh ku yht syga cusa suna sumudujc, yht pinh dra ruica tufh? Daylr dras y maccuh?”
What... what was he saying? Her eyes got wider than they already were, that childlike innocence she still possessed clear as day in her eyes as she just sat there amazed. He'd... He'd be willing to do things a different way? Honestly she was so surprised, she couldn't immediately answer him, just sitting there dumbly as a few more tears rolled down her pinking cheeks. So when he suddenly stood up and stepped back, she really wasn't sure what to expect. ”Muug, E syta oui lno, cu ruf ypuid oui cmik sa yht fa lymm ed ajah? L'suh, yc red sa yc rynt yc oui fyhd!” To that, she popped upright with surprising agility, as if she had springs in her bum or something, opening her mouth to protest before she realized the absurdity of it all. So she stood there in front of him at a complete loss to everything with all of her emotions going this way and that. She probably wasn't even sure which way was up at this point!
Kaede took a small step forward and closed her hands into fists, holding them up hesitantly in front of her chest as she bit her lower lip. "This doesn't feel right..." She murmured, completely disregarding what he had said moments before at least for now. Aaaand with her little puny strength, she punched him tentatively in the stomach. OW. HIS STOMACH HURT. "That was a trap!" She cried as she rubbed her knuckles gently, pouting slightly before she broke out into a giggle. He could make her so mad, and so sad, so fast, but then turn the world back up again. Sniffling one last time, she wiped away the remaining tears and looked at the ground. She was such an idiot. "I'm relieved that I'm not a burden to you Mickey. I know I'm not the easiest to work with cause I'm all... difficult and stuff..." She started, smoothing a few strands from her face as she raised her gaze up to him. "Pid... teth'd dra zup teldyda ryjehk du gemm dras? E sayh... oui'ja ymnayto fungat cu rynt du bnabyna ajanodrehk vun dryd..." She asked softly, biting her lower lip as her head hung slightly. "E sayh.. E.. She looked like a lost sort of puppy as she stared up at him, insecurity all abound within her. "But um... I mean... just destroying some really important property to them would work too... wouldn't it?"

He couldn’t help but laugh out loud at her attempt at punching him. Years of harsh training had finally paid off. ”That was a trap!”

Re: Apples to Apples, Dust to Dust
”Yes vun dra vyla haqd desa, mycc. Oui'mm ryja paddan milg.” Ooooo yea yea you big fat jerk.... The advice probably wouldn't have even helped! He had a hard head! She knew, she had bonked it a couple of times by accident and it sucked!
But.... back to the present. What were they going to do on this job? She really hadn't expected him to change his plans at all! Though, usually she did go along with what he already had planned.... Was he really ok with this? He already had the C4 and everything, and he did love his explosions.... But the thought of people ending at the ribcage and what the aftermath must look like...it made her shudder once more. No, she couldn't kill people. ”Hu, hu, oui'na hud lusbmelydehk yhodrehk... Famm, dalrhelymmo, fa zicd ryja du 'taym fedr dras.' E's zicd icat du pnaygehk uid dra aqbmutehk ybbmac vencd, o'ghuf?" Really? She really really wasn't? A small smile rose up to her lips, almost sheepishly as she stared up at her friend. "Heehee, really? I would think it'd be a bit difficult for it to be a first option though." Didn't it take a lot of preparation to do though? Oooo she didn't understand all of this....
”Cusadrehk xielg yht cesbma fyc fryd E ryt eh seht. Ayco byolralg. Pid, E kiacc cehla fa'na uh uin ufh vun huf, syopa E cruimt pa suna... yllussutydehk?" Er.... She wasn't really making this an easy paycheck, was she? She bit her lower lip and shook her head to herself, no no no she was being a dumb-dumb! He just said she wasn't complicating things! "I just.... She looked away at the tree's, trying to think of what her head and her heart were saying. She didn't really like either right now... "Maybe if you kill someone, I won't be on the job... Like, I could do a different job! Maybe? I-I mean... " Pfft. What could she do? She knew that they relied on each other to survive while on the run, and yet.... She relied on him more than he probably relied on her... "C-cause I mean... I appreciate you pondering the accommodating thing but... Should you have to? I'm sorry, I'm not making much sense, am I?" She chuckled nervously, at least relieved to see that he was in high spirits over the whole thing.
She didn't even know how to feel anymore. She felt a giant storm brewing within her of morales, desires, and what seemed logical for them. She wanted to be able to just be as carefree as her friend without all of the baggage that was attached. How did one break free from the morals that had been beaten over and over into your head? Was it like learning to swim? Did you just... jump off the pier into the lake and pray for the best? Or was it something you eased into? She had already made her declaration to this path of mischief, she should fully commit! She shouldn't be lolligagging off on the side and possibly costing them! Her thoughts were interrupted though, ”Ruf ypuid fa caa ypuid sygehk c'suna sumudujc vencd? Zicd eh lyca fa haat du nacund du cusa kuut um' vycreuhat yncuh." Mreowr?
She immediately perked up and smiled, her worries immediately banished. But secretly in the depths of her mind, the decision had been made. She would commit to this life she had chosen for herself. She had to embrace this new world, these new choices she could make. "Ok!" Fire was so very pretty... ”Drah fa lyh, is... Tu dryd drehk du veht uid ypuid dras. Mega, pnepac yh' cred. She offered not so helpfully, but she grew more serious as she gave him a salute. "Aye aye sir! Shall we check the local tavern? Or.. er... I mean..." See, now she was getting too carried away again! ”Un tet oui fyhhy dno cusadreh' amca?”
Now it was her turn to pause and think that over a bit, maybe she had agreed too quickly? "No... I think thats a good idea. Find their weak point and hit them for it! After all, espionage would take too long... " Oh! She should probably explain the idea that had briefly come and gone in her mind. "Fryd E sayh ec, ev E fana du kad socamv renat yc y syet un cusadrehk yht drah cypudyka cdivv! Druikr... E's hud xieda cina fryd oui fuimt tu.. Eh yho lyca, ed fuimt dyga vyn duu muhk. Or is it too risky since by bribing people we could draw attention to ourselves?" She might be a ditz a portion of the time, it didn't mean she wasn't smart! Just... absent minded perhaps.
