CASE FILE: Transmutation Equipment
Emiya Shirou
...........................................................................
→ Reinforcement
TYPE:
→ Elemental subtype: Metal
LEVEL:
→ 1
FORM:
→ The transmutation-circles are engraved into the back of each hand.
...........................................................................
BRIEFING:
→ The basic shape of the circle is composed out of a triangle-like shape near the fingers, the longer ends and the 'tip' pointing towards the fingers. However, instead of ending into an actual triangle, the lines leading down the hand stop into thicker lines that look similliar to two opposing paintstrokes, giving it a little resemblance to the 'spade' symbol. Directly underneath it are two further 'strokes' of the seal, shaped like two sideways lines going along the muscles of the hand, but being slightly off-center, curved and not completely true to that shape. Four lines on the inside 'connect' those lines, all the same length – where the distance is greater between the lines, the two don't connect, but they do connect a bit lower, where the lines are closer. This sign ends right before the wrist, and one final, straight line that thins out downwards goes over his wrist and up a very small portion of his lower arm. This symbol is the same on both hands, only mirrored.
The unique shape steems from the science behind the usage.
The process is broken down in multiple steps in Shirous mind, which also translates to the knowledge he needs. First is judging the complexion of the material his hand rests on. Appearance, density, warmth, all are deciding factors which Shirou will usually judge by closing his eyes for a short moment. This is symbolized by the first 'spade' like symbol. Thus, a great deal of knowledge of solid material is needed, but liquids can't be fully ignored, as a difference exists between wet sand and normal sand, for example. Knowledge in both is thus needed.
The next step is to fully understand the elements judged beforehand by analyzing the connections between the atoms and the picture as a large. The practice of first seeing the small, disconnected picture and then the big one is symbolized by the Disconnected and connected intersecting lines of the second part of the circle, respectively.
The third and final thought-process is to excell at every manufacturing process, by fusing the previously analyzed elemenents and objects into new structures, effectively, this is the only real 'transmutational' step, which will then create metal at whatever surface the palms touch. The normally red engravements glow slightly orange while doing so. The shape can not be manipulated at this stage, so it only 'Reinforces' the material into a metal.

SPECIAL ABILITIES:
→ The alchemic ability of Shirou is 'conjuring metal'. By binding the atoms of solid objects into new combinations and rewriting their connection towards each other with his alchemic energy, he can increase the density and virtually turn stone, wood, or even sand into metal. Stronger metal needs more raw materials, and the higher the density of an object he uses, the less materials he needs, the same is true the other way around. Currently, Shirou can only create steel, no other metal is possible. To actually use this alchemy, he has two transmutation circles engraved into the back of each hand.
