      DESCRIPTION:
→ The first thing you'll notice about Xiao is all tall he is. Strange in Xing, but sometimes the genes play strange cards. He's extremely muscular, but being proficient in matrial arts, he is lean. His strength his hidden by his seemingly weak-looking frame. Xiao has always been slightly pale but he does get a little color in the sun. He's always kept his thick black hair natural, the hair in the front long, layered and falling to his chin, while the back is much shorter and is usually spiked up. Don't ask him why he keeps his hair like that, because he really has no idea. He just likes it. His eyes are dark, shifting somewhere between dark brown and a deep gray-black. It's always difficult to tell for sure. Xiao's face usually gives away nothing but you can find his real emotions hiding in his eyes.

Xiao's clothing style is always simple. His Imperial Guard uniform isn't ostentatious, just black pants, black boots, a white button-down shirt and a long black jacket with the Imperial Guard Emperor's insignia on each shoulder. Off-duty he loves wearing black or dark blue jeans with anything neutral. He loves wearing whites, blacks and grays. T-shirts, button-downs, vests, sweatshirts.. you name it, as long as it's simple. He likes to go barefoot whenever he can and if not, he wears a pair of simple black sandals. His left ear is pierced, and he has a small silver hoop in it. Other than a simple titanium band on his left ring finger, that is all the jewelry he wears.

Xiao doesn't talk much, but not because he doesn't like to. As an Imperial Guard it's sometimes more of a “stand-and-observe” than a “chat-up-everyone” position. Xiao has taken this training as Imperial Guard to heart, naturally more quiet when at work and at home. When Xiao does talk, his voice is low, but not very deep. If you ask him to sing (to which he'd probably say “NO”) he would have a lovely baritone. His stance is erect and befitting a person well-trained in the art of guarding and martial arts. His stride is long and full of purpose and he is always watching, always listening.

        PERSONALITY:
→ Xiao acts differently depending on certain scenarios. The three most general would be: working, not working, and time with Zao. When working, Xiao is all business. His primary goal is to keep order and safety in the area surrounding the emperor. He is very quiet, only speaking when necessary when he is around during matters of important signifigance. When things are a bit lighter in nature and he is with Ace, he still keeps an air of formality. As much as he enjoys being in Ace's company, he realizes there will always be a title separating them. He tries to keep on eye on Ace, similar to an older brother. Being young and an emperor definitely isn't easy, especially when you're also a little socially awkward. Xiao is also dedicated to his job and practices diligently to keep up on his martial arts. He carries a spear when on-duty and also is sure to remain skilled at it.

When Xiao is not on duty, he often appears much more relaxed. He's gladly willing to talk to people and help them out with things. He also loves to share his cooking and if you ask him nicely enough, he'll probably attempt to make whatever you ask him to. He's always polite, but can be a little bit sarcastic. He used to be the type of person who would sing for no reason at all, but he doesn't anymore. And do not ask him to, because he will probably refuse. He also gets quiet when asking about certain aspects of his past. With the exception of a few subjects, Xiao is more than happy to be your friend, though you have to work hard to earn his respect and trust.

When Xiao is with his son, it's almost like he is a completely different person. Nanny Qiu has almost described him as “giddy” when he sees his son. He dotes heavily, often bringing the small boy trinkets. He enjoys singing and dancing with his son and telling him stories. His eyes are bright with the love for his son and the hope for the future. He is also fierecely protective of his son and will only allow his closest friends to see his son. He is very obviously a doting father.

        LOVE:
→ Zao, cooking, Nanny Qiu, Ai, trying new foods, Xing, martial arts, Ace, singing

        HATE:
→ Wearing bright colors, being away from Zao, illness of any kind, hospitals, snakes

        DEEPEST SECRET:
→ Since the loss of his wife Ai, he's terrified to fall in love, lest he lose someone again.

        ...........................................................................

        HISTORY:
→ Xiao came from a big family in Beijing, although he was born an only child. Both of his parents had many siblings, both with many children. But after years of trying, they could only have Xiao. And so they treasured their son. He spent a lot of his childhood playing with his cousins and other children in his neighborhood, roughhousing and generally just being a child. From a young age, he wished for love. He saw the looks his parents gave each other when they thought he wasn't looking. Unlike most young boys, he wasn't (completely) disgusted. He realized how important love was and treated all of his cousins and friends with the greatest respect and trust. When he was 7, a new family moved into the neighborhood. And for the first time, Xiao was stunned. The family had a pretty daughter the same age as Xiao. They became fast friends and all the parents could tell that this would be a friendship that would grow into something more.

When Xiao was 10, his father began to train him. Xiao's father had been in the military all his life and similar aspirations for his son. Xiao's mother, who cooked at the family-owned restaurant, accepted this reasoning that her son also learned to cook. So he spent a little time after school each day with each parent, learning martial arts and how to chop vegetables. To his parents' surprise, he showed great interest and skill in both hobbies. When Xiao was 14, his father allowed him to add weapons training to his extra-curriuclars. Xiao was immeadiately attracted to the spear. His teachers were impressed at how quickly he mastered techniques and soon became a bit of a wonder amongst the neighborhood. He also began to create his own version of a spear, naming it his “hoopak.”

As several parents predicted, Xiao and his young friend Ai grew far closer than simple friendship. A childish romance had indeed grown into the throes of teenage passion. They were head over heels in love with each other. Ai complemeted Xiao perfectly. She had always been a weak child, but that didn't mean she was vibrant. Both were friendly and loving but whereas Xiao was quieter, Ai was full of life. She loved to sing and dance and run, even getting Xiao to join a school choir. It was discovered he had a wonderful baritone voice. Ai would make him sing all the time, but everyone knew that he only sang because she asked him.

Xiao's parents weren't surprised when at 18, Xiao joined the military. They were slightly more surprised when they discovered Xiao had gone to ask for Ai's hand in marriage from her father. Her father agreed and shortly after both of them turned 19, they were married. They moved to the capital of Xing shortly thereafter, in order for Xiao to begin his work at the imperial palace. Xiao carefully balanced working, training and spending time with Ai. They lived their first years as husband and wife, blissfully happy. And their happiness only grew as the news came, in the fall when they were 23, that Ai was pregnant! It was a difficult pregnancy but Xiao was there for every moment. Xiao had just received the news that he had been promoted to Imperial Guard on a sunny June day when a lower-ranking officier burst into the room. Ai had gone into labor! Xiao uncermiously barreled out of the room and made it in record time to the hospital. Xiao sat with Ai through the 36-hour labor, bathing her forehead with cool water, feeding her ice chips and grimacing as she crushed his hand during contractions. Xiao watched with amazement (and a little horror) as at 8:13 pm on June 14th, his son was born. As the nurse wrapped the tiny bundle and placed him into Xiao's arms he could barely move from fear. The boy had wailed loudly the entire time, but quieted in his father's arms. Xiao let the boy hold onto his pinky finger and smiled hugely as a pair of dark eyes stared up at him.

The first time Ai held the boy, she said right away that he looked exactly like his father. She then whispered that his name would be Zao, after her grandfather. She then grimaced and to Xiao it felt like sirens were going off in the room. He was quickly moved out of the way with Zao as the doctors and nurses surrounded Ai. Apparently there was leakage of the blood from the womb. Xiao couldn't understand what they meant by “blood toxicity” but apparently the blood that had nurtured his son could kill his wife. Zao was taken to the room where all the babies were kept and Xiao was forced into the waiting room. He waited impatiently for as long as he could (an hour, really) before demanding to see his wife. When he went into the room again, he was shocked by the change in Ai. She had been a weak child and sometimes sickly, but always so full of life. The limp young woman lying in the bed couldn't possibly be his wife. He began to cry as she whispered for him to sing a lullaby to her. And so he sang to her, the lullaby they had learned together to sing to their child. He then kissed her softly goodbye as she fell asleep listening. In the wee hours of the morning, Ai slipped away. Their son was barely a day old.

Xiao would've slipped into a stupor then.. gone into a deep depression. But the nurse quietly led him to his son and he realized he couldn't give up. He needed to keep on going for Zao. They were all each other had now. He kept his son under tight watch the next few days, as he prepared for Ai's funeral. Both of their families came in and clung to each other in comfort as she was put to rest. Then his parents asked him to move closer to home, so they could help care for Zao. Xiao declined with a sigh and a hug. He had two obligations now and both of them were large. He had the care of Zao and the security of the Emperor. He was given a month's leave from work to handle the death of his wife and the birth of his son. He stumbled through all the fun of caring for a newborn, but he did it alone. He managed somehow, but knew when he returned to work that Zao would need a caretaker. He soon hired a small older woman named Chen Qiu. Xiao quickly began to refer to her as Nanny Qiu. She was sweet and no-nonsense, making sure that Xiao was never late for work when he would rather play with Zao. They made an odd family, but Xiao was slowly content. It's been a year now and Xiao couldn't be more of a doting father. And every night after the books have been read and the pajamas have been put on, Xiao sings. He sings a father's lullaby to his son. And as he sings, he can almost hear Ai singing in harmony.

Life has been a barrel of monkeys for Xiao in recent times. As his son grew and began to walk and talk, Xiao watched with eager anticipation. At least, as often as he could. War in Drachma had a tendency to put a temporary stop on father-son time. He fought bravely, leading the troops from slaughter. He also discovered a new side of Jeu-Hee, the absent-minded ambassador. Jeu-Hee was probably one of the first people in a long time that he could now consider a friend. Home from war, he doted on his boy, taking him to the park whenever possible. There he was able to further his friendship with Jeu-Hee.

Things got interesting when he assisted the local police in apprehending a yakuza member, but that was just one night in many. Zao was the usual nightly plan for Xiao, which he was quite content with. Until war struck into Xing and Xiao was forced to fight for his homefront. They were able to repel back RIOTE and Aerugo, keeping their country whole. Yet the real shocker came to Xiao when Ace informed him and everyone else that he was stepping down as Emperor. Xiao lost his position as the Imperial Guard but was oddly promoted to be one of the Dragon Blooded. He's still pretty new to his position, but he's interested as to what will happen next in his life.
