DESCRIPTION:
→ Cain stands at a modestly tall six feet, four inches. He has an athletic build, is broad shouldered, and long limbed. His hair is short, dirty blonde, usually unstiled or just let to lie naturally, although he has been known to comb it on special occasion.

The left side of Ethan's face is covered in a metal mask with a large circle cut to reveal a glowing blue automail eye. Underneath the mask you see that the right side of his face, from his forehead down to his chin, is covered in skin-level automail, inculding his ear. The automail was actually liquified and put into a half-skull mold. Then, it was cut in places to allow his jaw to move and fitted over the exposed bone on his face. Because the automail side of his face looks exactly like a metal human skull, it appears to be quite morbid hence the metal mask. His left arm, from the elbow down, is also automail.

His civilian attire is seperated into two groups. Casual, which is what he will go around in when off-duty in central, and his traveling clothes. Casually, Ethan will wear something along the lines of a plain shirt and jeans. For travel he will keep his clothing as light as possible, probably wearing a shirt, jeans, a light jacket, and a heavier jacked packed away. When on duty, Cainbridge always wears his state uniform.

PERSONALITY:
→ Ethan could be considered as somewhat of a loner. Instead of going to some party, he would much rather stay at home, do some extra work or perhaps some reading. He dislikes crowds, noisy establishments and alchohol altogether. He never gets very close to ver many people, usually keeping everyone at an arms distance. He is outgoing, however, and has been known to enjoy exploring, nature itself. He is a very calm, not easily angered person. He tries not to let anything get to him, especially not what people say about the state

Opposite his loner attitude, He really does enjoy company, but only around those he has let into his life. He can be picky about who he chooses to include in his 'clique' of friends, and is common to have several times the number of acquaintences as to the number of actual friends.

At times he can seem very cold, because he believes hardening himself is the best way to be able to deal with life. He could say, excecute crimin als and probably be able to bear it, without so much as a twitch. This is not to say he is a monster, however. Any greivances he has are usually dealt with in private. After all, the state must be organized, uniform. You can't have soldiers balling their eyes out or anything.

DEEPEST SECRET:
→ He portrays himself to the public as an unfeeling moster, so his deepest secret is in fact that he does feel emotions. He has never cracked a smile in public, laughed, or made it apparent that he enjoyed anyone's company.

HISTORY:
→ Born to Teresa and Gordon Cain, Ethan spent much of his childhood with his older brother, John. Although three years apart in age, the two boys were unseperable, united by their mutual love for alchemy. THe boys studied tirelessly, eventually Ethan discovered a special abolity quite by accident. On their way back from a shop late and night,t he boys were ambushed by a man who clearly wanted their money. Almost out of instinct, in his panic Ethan slapped his hand onto the concrete sidewalk, and his arm up to the elbow took on the properties of the concrete. Of course, Ethan promptly knocked the man off his feet, but when he tried to return his arm back to normal he ended up solidifying the substance and destroying his arm. He was fitted with automail the next day.

Gordon Cain had always pressed his boys to join the military, saying that real men put their lives on the line for their country. Already having the interest they did in alchemy, they combined their admiration of the military to form a dream of becoming state alchemists. With a plan to visit as many alchemists as possible, the boys set out on a trip that took almost an entire year. They traveled all around, in Amestris, Carraig, Aerugo, and Creta. They visited alchemists across those nations, learning what they could without ever giving away their identities.

It was not until the journey home that tragedy struck. They were returning home, leaving Creta, the last country they had visited. Suddenly, a group of men came upon them. Claiming to be Cretan military, themen had somehow found out that the boys were Amestrian. The men demanded that the boys come with them immediatley, but rather than surrender Ethan attempted to scare them off with alchemy. As he began drawing a transmutation circle, a soldier panicked and fired and Ethan.

Pain seared through Ethan's face. The bullet had ripped through the skin and muscle of the left side of his face. Before he hit the ground another round hit him in the lower left chest area. As this was happening, John fionished drawing his transmutation circle and created a wall of trees between the boys and the men. Unfortunatley John's aim was a little off and the wall crushed the men instead of blocking them.

John hurried to civilization, a small town just on the border between Aerugo and Amestris. Ethan was barely able to recover, and the boys had to hide from Cretan military, who were searching the town for the two alchemists unchallenged. They eventually made it back with help from the townspeople. Ethan was then fitted with an automail side face, designed to protect the exposed skull. He was also fitted with an automail eye, for his normal eye had been to damaged to save.

ALCHEMIC/ALKAHESTRIC ABILITY:
→ Ethan has the ability to absorb the properties of stone, wood, and metals into his body. This creates a substance slightly weaker that what he copied that covers that area of the body. However, Ethan must maintain contanct with the property he is absorbing for at least 15 seconds in order to avoid a tragedy, like what happened to his left arm. Also, his real atoms are still underneath the new material, so if someone was to cut far into the materiual they would end up damaging his arm regardless of the material he absorbed.
